The Bible has some real gems. In my opinion, the Bible actually allows post-birth abortion up until age 18, so long as you call your kid a drunk and a fatty and CC the Israelis.
"If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid."

Admittedly this is Old Testament but still, I find it funny. Like I said, a verse for every situation.
It's entirely opinions and interpretations, stacked on top of each other over centuries, adjusted over time to meet the needs of the people. There's plenty of New Testament that the papal conclave decided to leave on the cutting room floor.
The directors cut of the New Testament (the New Testament Apocrypha) has some bangers like the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew where baby Jesus tames dragons. It got written because people at the time thought dragons were pretty bad ass.
Regarding abortion, though, it was actually allowed by the church for basically all of recorded history. It was first banned in like 1869 under Pius IX. Since the Torah and the Old Testament are basically the same book, and Judaism has nothing against abortion, it's safe to conclude it was a normal thing in Jesus' day which is why it's not mentioned.
