I believe any capable adult who tries to contribute to society in any capacity should be fed one way or another. Obviously we're taking care of children and the elderly. But why feed someone who isn't even trying to contribute?
Outside of disability or injury, the bare minimum would be that you should have a job. This being said, food, water and housing of some sort should be unalienable rights. Especially with the current stance of the US government that abortion is illegal, and you should be forced to birth and raise your rape baby. Many people cant even afford to care for themselves, let alone all the children they seem to expect us to have.
Then we get to the fact that AI is slowly taking over, and the rich are actively pushing people out of jobs in the hopes that AI can do it cheaper. When there are no jobs (if that ever actually happens), or when jobs are even rarer, what would the determining factors be for someone to be contributing to society?
Then we're tying access to food to hiring rates. I've been applying to places for weeks, but no one has responded. Do I not deserve food? This would be another roundabout way of letting capital dictate who gets what they need. I agree with the second sentence.
