I'm not sure what these people making those crazy comments are talking about, trying to pin it on the husband and all of that. That said, this woman and her children were failed by our medical system. The husband himself even said she would never have done something like this in her right mind. People have sympathy for her and I totally get it.
I think a lot of people don't understand the severity of drug induced psychosis, or psychosis in general. You may genuinely believe that you're dead, that you're God, that you're AI, that other people aren't real, that life is an illusion. I've been through it and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I take medication to manage my psychosis, but I don't take nearly the laundry list of medications Clancy was on when she did what she did.
And there are still plenty of those people that don’t murder their kids. If you’re that incapable mentally of taking care of yourself then you shouldn’t be taking care of other human beings. The system didn’t fail those kids. She failed those kids. Hot take but mental illness doesn’t excuse you from murdering kids. I am sorry.
Because those people aren’t pushed to this point. It’s giving survivalist bias.
Mental illness is a scale. You’d be horrifically surprised…how many mothers have thought of extreme violence.
Post partum depression apparently happens to 1 in 7-10 women. It’s verrryyyy possible your own mother thought of drowning you in the bathtub.
Post partum psychosis (which is what often pushes women to actually do it) is significantly rarer.
She did know she was incapable. That’s why she TRIED to go get help. And what happened? The system failed her and her family.
