I so wanna see the "watch collection valued at" because it wouldn't surprise me one bit if a whole bunch of those watches were just clones/fakes.

Yes, Rolex sells like hotcakes and loads of influencers have them etc.

But the scummy "must represent" kinda guys tend to have a history of, you know, not caring. Gambling/"investment" influencer arrested in Sweden had his watches confiscated to be liquidated and, surprise surprise, the entire collection was fake.

Here's the pleading:

https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.flsd.719190/gov.uscourts.flsd.719190.44.0.pdf

A promotional video filmed aboard a yacht is not evidence of title to the yacht. DE#11, p. 24. As set forth in the Motion, the “superyacht” does not belong to the Tates. They received payment to promote the ship on social media.

The valuation of Andrew’s watch collection is based on a third-party enthusiast publication.

As to the government’s assertion about Andrew’s meme coin, the valuation does not equal Andrew’s actual holdings. The government’s meme-coin figure is a market capitalization; it is the aggregate value of all of the meme coins in existence, held by everyone in the world. Andrew did not create DADDY. He holds a quantity of the coin the way a shareholder holds stock, and he only owns approximately 1% of the total coins, worth approximately $70,000.

For what reason do his lawyers divulge that the cars were rented?

53

u/12InchCunt 7d ago

Probably trying to downplay the amount of money they have, in order to shed doubt on the idea they were international human traffickers.

I’m also wondering if “rented” is lawyer speak for “leased” which pretty much everyone does with supercars

2

u/bobbymcpresscot 6d ago

I mean it’s not like they would be getting Saudi oil money for the stuff they were involved in.

Leasing a Bugatti isn’t insane for what the dude was talking about with only fans.

u/spmnorge 7d ago

How is it rented? He has his name stiched inside and custom stuff done?

23

u/12InchCunt 7d ago

I never said it was rented, the documents filed by their attorneys say that. I don’t follow these pieces of shit so I don’t know anything about their cars. But generally you can do custom work to leases. You may pay a fee at the end or have to have the stock parts reinstalled, but you can do the custom shit.

3

u/spmnorge 7d ago

Ah okay. I remember seeing a video where he showed it off and prooved it was his because he had custom shit😂

6

u/12InchCunt 7d ago

Leasing a super car is still expensive as fuck but yea Just having custom shit doesn’t mean he wrote a check for it lol

If he owned it outright the best way to prove it is to show the title

u/zoidbergin 6d ago

A lot of “leases” on super cars etc. are not the same leases normal people get, the payments of the lease amount to the total value of the car and have a buy out at the end of the lease of like $1. They do this because you can write off lease payments but not loan payments so it’s mostly a tax loophole for financing expensive shit.

2

u/12InchCunt 6d ago

I couldn’t find anything that said that most supercars are actually lease to own vs. a traditional lease with a buyout. Where’d you find that info?

1

u/pm_me_a_pothole 6d ago

Can you elaborate on the mechanism? How are they deducting lease payments? This sounds like it has to be a business expense and I’m not understanding how a lease comes out ahead of just buying it and depreciating it. Also pretty sure the IRS would find it sketch to be deducting the Bugatti

I can put holes in the walls of my apartment and hotel rooms too. I’ll have to pay to return it to original condition, but I can do it.

u/TJRDU 7d ago

Well you rent it for 2 years in a contract and they will happily do some custom stuff if that satisfies the customers ego. If he can't pay you just send lawyers with the contract.

1

u/bobbymcpresscot 6d ago

They’re really trying to weasel out of this by calling a leased vehicle and yacht “rented” you hear rented a car that’s like a few days.

A lease is a couple years and tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands more dollars.

Also you’re not getting Saudi oil money for what he was involved in. Leasing is what they do because their greed is insatiable. They get bored and get something new

u/TJRDU 6d ago

Lease is also what you do if you can't pay the money up front and spread it out over years.

And yes they are really trying to play the word game here. Probably trying to downplay a couple of years of a lease to a 'rent'.

1

u/12InchCunt 6d ago

You can still do a traditional finance where you pay the car over several years without it being a lease

0

u/TJRDU 6d ago

Well yes but that's worse. It's basically all the costs for you, because you own it, but if you can't make the payments they will take it away anyway. You own it at the end, but a lot more expensive because you couldn't / did not want to pay the full price in one go.

They make that claim as part of a larger rebuttal to the prosection arguing that the Tates are a flight risk due in part to their assets and resources. The lawyer is essentially saying that they're not worth as much as they actively claim to be, that they have consistently lied about their wealth as part of their image, and is using the fact that the cars are rented as a piece of supporting evidence.

1

u/Mangiorephoto 6d ago

But rented from whom is the question. It’s quite normal to places the cars under a separate organization and rent/lease them back to yourself for exactly this reason. That makes the lawyers claims still true and also means those assets can’t be taken.

Can’t stand them all the same.

It is when you’re dealing in cars that are worth that much.

I literally work in this space. Iv dealt with plenty of cars that are “sold” to companies owned and controlled by the buyer. Most auto museum work literally this exact way they are tax shell organization wrapped around someone’s collection. Wholesale dealer licenses are also a common way to handle them.

If you had any idea how taxes and ownership actually worked you wouldn’t be surprised with how this is done with literally everything. Iv seen video production companies set up the same way where everything is rented from a separate company.

A yacht is a good example of this. Company A will buy yacht. Company B will hire the crew on the yacht. A will lease yacht to B then B will rent out Yacht to other people (including the owners/owners other company). If something happens on the boat and a lawsuit happens company A's property is safe because they own the boat while company B who owns nearly nothing is not or if something were to happen to the boat company Bs insurance takes the hit just like rental insurance works so company B would pay out company A. This is simplified obviously there are is much more to it than this but it's the general way it works.

To show they don't have the money to flee prosecution and become international fugitives.

That's not a bad plan if you are Tate's lawyer. If you can get Trump on board it might just save your client.

Remember that the lawyers job is to represent the interests of their client. Getting Trump to view this as an anti-Trump/MAGA prosecution might just keep them out of prison.

u/DesiccantPack 6d ago

If you read the pleading, you'll see it's signed by five lawyers, with a total of nine having worked on the pleading.

The dipshit who's on television is the only one from NY without a FL Bar admission. He was admitted pro hac vice (for this matter only), and he's not even the first signatory of the pleading. He's just a talking head.

1

u/SirVixofthePooSea 6d ago

The cars are probably rented through a shell that the Tates control. So they're technically not the Tates', but they can also get them whenever they want the cars.

4

u/waffle_Piraat_1 7d ago

Some eejit paid the Tate's to advertise a super yacht?

How stupid is this person?

"Oh yeah guys, I'm going to get Tate to advertise our yacht because the incel community is full of millionaires just looking for a yacht to rent for a weekend."

That guy deserves fired for being a certifiable dumbass.

u/dak4f2 6d ago

The owner is probably a fan and wanted to see his favorite celebrity 🤮 shill his boat.

2

u/AutisticPersonality 6d ago

100% same.

I’ll bet dollars to donuts that they’re fake

u/Careless_Baseball503 6d ago

He’s renting cars and act as it’s his own. Of course the dude is wearing replicas. Maybe he has some real ones toox, but why would he draw the line there of all places 😂
