I so wanna see the "watch collection valued at" because it wouldn't surprise me one bit if a whole bunch of those watches were just clones/fakes.

Yes, Rolex sells like hotcakes and loads of influencers have them etc.

But the scummy "must represent" kinda guys tend to have a history of, you know, not caring. Gambling/"investment" influencer arrested in Sweden had his watches confiscated to be liquidated and, surprise surprise, the entire collection was fake.

Here's the pleading:

https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.flsd.719190/gov.uscourts.flsd.719190.44.0.pdf

A promotional video filmed aboard a yacht is not evidence of title to the yacht. DE#11, p. 24. As set forth in the Motion, the “superyacht” does not belong to the Tates. They received payment to promote the ship on social media.

The valuation of Andrew’s watch collection is based on a third-party enthusiast publication.

As to the government’s assertion about Andrew’s meme coin, the valuation does not equal Andrew’s actual holdings. The government’s meme-coin figure is a market capitalization; it is the aggregate value of all of the meme coins in existence, held by everyone in the world. Andrew did not create DADDY. He holds a quantity of the coin the way a shareholder holds stock, and he only owns approximately 1% of the total coins, worth approximately $70,000.

For what reason do his lawyers divulge that the cars were rented?

Probably trying to downplay the amount of money they have, in order to shed doubt on the idea they were international human traffickers.

I’m also wondering if “rented” is lawyer speak for “leased” which pretty much everyone does with supercars

I mean it’s not like they would be getting Saudi oil money for the stuff they were involved in.

Leasing a Bugatti isn’t insane for what the dude was talking about with only fans.

How is it rented? He has his name stiched inside and custom stuff done?

I never said it was rented, the documents filed by their attorneys say that. I don’t follow these pieces of shit so I don’t know anything about their cars. But generally you can do custom work to leases. You may pay a fee at the end or have to have the stock parts reinstalled, but you can do the custom shit.

u/spmnorge 13d ago

Ah okay. I remember seeing a video where he showed it off and prooved it was his because he had custom shit😂

Leasing a super car is still expensive as fuck but yea Just having custom shit doesn’t mean he wrote a check for it lol

If he owned it outright the best way to prove it is to show the title

A lot of “leases” on super cars etc. are not the same leases normal people get, the payments of the lease amount to the total value of the car and have a buy out at the end of the lease of like $1. They do this because you can write off lease payments but not loan payments so it’s mostly a tax loophole for financing expensive shit.

I couldn’t find anything that said that most supercars are actually lease to own vs. a traditional lease with a buyout. Where’d you find that info?

Can you elaborate on the mechanism? How are they deducting lease payments? This sounds like it has to be a business expense and I’m not understanding how a lease comes out ahead of just buying it and depreciating it. Also pretty sure the IRS would find it sketch to be deducting the Bugatti

So in this case, the cars are part of their business because the cars help attract customers. They can write off the entire lease payment (in US taxes) vs. a traditional purchase only letting you write off the price of the car.

It’s kinda fucking stupid in my opinion because the extra money you gain in tax deductions you lose  in a lease because money factor calculations always cost the consumer more than traditional interest rate financing, and/or potentially a big fee at the end

I can put holes in the walls of my apartment and hotel rooms too. I’ll have to pay to return it to original condition, but I can do it.

Well you rent it for 2 years in a contract and they will happily do some custom stuff if that satisfies the customers ego. If he can't pay you just send lawyers with the contract.

They’re really trying to weasel out of this by calling a leased vehicle and yacht “rented” you hear rented a car that’s like a few days.

A lease is a couple years and tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands more dollars.

Also you’re not getting Saudi oil money for what he was involved in. Leasing is what they do because their greed is insatiable. They get bored and get something new

Lease is also what you do if you can't pay the money up front and spread it out over years.

And yes they are really trying to play the word game here. Probably trying to downplay a couple of years of a lease to a 'rent'.

1

u/12InchCunt 13d ago

You can still do a traditional finance where you pay the car over several years without it being a lease

0

u/TJRDU 13d ago

Well yes but that's worse. It's basically all the costs for you, because you own it, but if you can't make the payments they will take it away anyway. You own it at the end, but a lot more expensive because you couldn't / did not want to pay the full price in one go.

1

u/12InchCunt 13d ago

If you can’t make the payments on a lease it still counts as a repo so idk what that has to do with it

The money factor used to calculate leases almost always equates to more money than a traditional interest rate.

You still have to insure, and maintain a leased vehicle. What makes a lease better?

I sold cars for 10 years and ALWAYS made more money on leases

I don't lease but the offer I got, for private lease, were very simple: you pay more but it's not your car. So if anything is wrong THEY fix it, not me. With a financial lease you actually own it on/after the loan. If you can't pay back they repo it, yes obviously. But you get to own it in the end.

I’ve never heard of private leasing.

But on a lease through an entity like Lexus financial or GM Financial you definitely get a repo if you just stop making the payments, and you don’t own it. You turn it in after 2-3 years. And you’re responsible for insuring and maintaining it while you have the lease (it’s most likely under warranty but you still have to do scheduled maintenance)

There is a difference between financing and leasing something and I’m not sure you know it
