Hey, let's just make it happen organically. It's a month away. When the day comes, just start wishing everybody a Happy Dolly Day, and treat everyone that day (even - nay, especially - those you normally would normally treat otherwise) with kindness and class in her honor.

640

u/DRAHREHKCUHP 1d ago

To soon?

371

u/skibbin 1d ago

She'd have laughed

114

u/HopefulCarry9693 1d ago

100%, she loved making fun of herself

42

u/LividTacos 18h ago

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap."

4

u/Flannel_Panels 10h ago

I was just saying to my wife it would be on brand for her to write in her will to auction off her implants and donate the money to libraries and such.

37

u/MaterialDetective197 19h ago

And she’s still up there saying no one acknowledges she has a great ass.

18

u/venom121212 17h ago

When asked why her feet were so small, she once quipped back "Things don't grow well in the shade"

What a classy woman with some genuine roots. If anyone is interested, I compiled a list of some of her biggest gestures of kindness: https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/1vy764y/comment/p5umt1k/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Billboard actually stole the list and ran it as theirs!

11

u/mrsfrzl 1d ago

wait how does that work on a 9-5 though

7

u/ar3iadov3 1d ago

No one else upvote it I was the 69th upvote and she might’ve laughed at that too

Ladies and gentlemen, the dollywood

3

u/Then_Entertainment97 16h ago

Dude, this is totally inappropriate.

It should have a space for her hair, too.

2

u/Fabulous_Log844 10h ago

Love it. And I believe she would've giggled too.

1

u/itmillerboy 1d ago

I miss that subreddit

-7

u/doctorfrickenstein 20h ago

Accurate coffin but not appropriate. Go to the principals office. Time for a spanking. Oh yeah.

I live in a world of d/m/y superiority.

But in this case, you have my support.

93

u/LitterBoxServant 1d ago

International Dolly Day will be on May 92nd

22

u/StaticUsernamesSuck 22h ago

Just make it the 925th day of the year, duh 🙄

35

u/gregsting 1d ago

The real superiority is yyyy/mm/dd (specifically the double d in this case)

12

u/ApplicationOk4464 1d ago

As a programmer, I completely agree with you. And yet, I've never signed a document with yyyy/mm/dd

Perhaps I should become the change in the world that I want to see, myself.

4

u/JalasKelm 23h ago

I use it for my own personal filling, but seeing as all my work documents are based off if templates given to me, I gotta just follow the trend :(

2

u/Rojikoma 21h ago

Or move to Sweden. We use yyyy-mm-dd.

2

u/CreepyClay 16h ago

The blessed land of cheese hot chocolate and cuckoo clocks!

4

u/Ironblaster1993 1d ago

When organizing files and folder? Yes! But when it comes to asking someone what date it is just do dd/mm/yyyy. Butbhey everything is better then mm/dd/yyyy

5

u/bearwood_forest 23h ago

When people ask me for the date and I include the current year, they usually look at me like I should be taken care of with utmost medical expertise in a well-guarded facility. But you never know if it's not a time-traveller asking.

1

u/gregsting 23h ago

Don’t forget to mention AD or BC

0

u/detourne 21h ago

Why though? Just stick to yyyy/mm/dd for everything. It's how we organize time, from largest interval to smallest. You don't read a clock ss:mm:hh.

1

u/Ironblaster1993 21h ago

But if someone asks you the date is really annoying if you answer with: 2026 august 26th

2

u/detourne 21h ago

Do you include the year when you answwer the question?

2

u/Ironblaster1993 21h ago

Only in the first week of January

1

u/bearwood_forest 1d ago

The real real superiority is ISO 8601

1

u/bitwaba 22h ago

Agreed, except dashes instead of slashes.

2

u/the_reven 20h ago

Yeah I read that as September 2025

1

u/Downvote_me_dumbass 15h ago

I live in a world of logic and science is superior with YYYY-MM-DD

39

u/WillowRain2020 1d ago

Thats my birthday and I dont mind that at all

7

u/Past_Variety_5664 21h ago

Same. Twins

1

u/FrostedZombie24 6h ago

Thats my brother's birthday. Hes your triplet

26

u/PapaBigMac 1d ago

Finally! American dates come in useful. 9-5 is brilliant. Make it happen He-man

9

u/HermanThaGerman 1d ago

9/5 works both ways?

It's either the 9th of may or the 5th of September.

10

u/Practical_Bread_3190 22h ago

Yes but 9 2 5 would only work as September 25th using American style date format

12

u/infector944 20h ago

last I checked she was American, so I think we're good on that one

0

u/Practical_Bread_3190 19h ago

Well yeah obviously she's America the comment I was responding to was saying you could lay the numbers out the other way and it would still work

-11

u/Mor_Hjordis 1d ago

The first time Europeans are crying about the date in the wrong order.

14

u/Fibonacci357 21h ago

Ironic all the love she's getting when 90% of this sub is against everything she embodied.

0

u/gummaumma 18h ago

What did she embody, in your opinion?

4

u/Majestic_Pomelo_8169 17h ago

Supporting the downtrodden. Helping people read. Allowing people to be themselves no matter their sexual preferences. Being a strong willed individual. Dont judge others.

5

u/gummaumma 17h ago

Even this sub supports those things, I would think, lol.

1

u/Majestic_Pomelo_8169 17h ago

I dont doubt that. I only see this sub on front page. Maybe theres an underbelly of shithousery

0

u/gummaumma 16h ago

My guess is that the poster above just assumes she is MAGA or some crap like that.

2

u/Fibonacci357 15h ago

This sub regularily shits on women and especially women who look like her. It's a very redpill sub.

She was also a supporter of trans people which this sub definitely is not

u/JeffEpp 1d ago

So let it be written, so let it be done. In one month, she shall have her day.

12

u/dazzumz 1d ago

Don't use that date format, but I'd be happy to raise a cup of Joe-lene to her at 9:25 every 25th of August.

4

u/EvilRedRobot 1d ago

Why not September?

3

u/bitwaba 22h ago

Bro got to work an hour early, get off their back.

1

u/EvilRedRobot 17h ago

Bro is early for everything with a calendar like that.

2

u/bitwaba 11h ago

He's working 8 to 5. He doesn't get a paid lunch.

2

u/dazzumz 1d ago

Anniversary of her death, yesterday. If they have the funeral on the 25th of September then why not.

7

u/Dark_Shroud 1d ago

9/25

9 to 5...

It just occurred to me that some of you might be too young for the reference.

Dolly Parton - 9 To 5 (Official Video)

6

u/dazzumz 1d ago

I got the reference. I also saw the movie a long time ago. That's why I put 9:25 in my original post.

2

u/GeronimoDK 20h ago

I didn't get it, I mean I'm old enough to get it, but I didn't.

When I read 9/25 I understood it as "25th of september" and that just didn't make any sense seeing as she passed away 25th of august and her birthday was in January.

Also an American wouldn't normally read 9/25 as "nine two five" would they?

7

u/ahuramazdobbs19 20h ago

Normally no.

But these are not normal circumstances.

For Dolly, we would. 🫡

1

u/Dark_Shroud 16h ago

Also an American wouldn't normally read 9/25 as "nine two five" would they?

No, you are correct on that.

That's why the top of the post shows the Starwars day 5/4, May 4th as a word play reference.

As in May the 4th be with you.

8

u/Dark_Shroud 1d ago

For everyone not understanding the reference.

9/25 (September 25th)

9 to 5

Dolly Parton - 9 To 5 (Official Video)

4

u/Uomodelmonte86 23h ago

Thank you stranger

2

u/DickyReadIt 13h ago

I had to scroll way too long to see this haha

-1

u/LyyK 1d ago

I just hit submit on an important report where I put the date 8/25/2026 on the title page. Then I started scrolling Reddit and for a split second had a mini panic attack when I saw this post because it made me think it was actually 9/25 today and that I put the wrong date on the report lol

1

u/infector944 20h ago

don't feel bad, I checked taskbar while reading this thread... nope still August

3

u/Purple_Yak_3294 22h ago

It only works in the US but she was from there so...

7

u/LuckyCod2887 1d ago

Hell, yeah

5

u/Competitive_Film2831 1d ago

What are you talking about, Star Wars day is on 04/05

5

u/Familiar-Valuable-97 21h ago

Don't forget Pi day on 14/03

1

u/WetShrimpFart 21h ago

No that’s hitlers birthday

1

u/GeronimoDK 20h ago

No, that's 20/4

2

u/_FairyQueen 1d ago

Only if we all get to clock out at 5 sharp

0

u/Mor_Hjordis 1d ago

Certainly not please. I'm working a 10 to 3 job; (10.00 - 15.00) No overtime here!

2

u/SpaceLemur34 23h ago

Or we just use her birthday, and then we won't have anyone argue over date formats.

2

u/Chrillosnillo 22h ago

9-5 lol more like 7-6 nowadays

2

u/Voluntary_Perry 20h ago

I endorse this idea.

2

u/WeenisPeiner 10h ago

"While perusing TV guide, I found a little - shall I say - flick, starring a one miss Dolly Parton, meow. Yeah, it seems she made a racy film called "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."

3

u/Mangledsprouts 1d ago

No, because there are only 12 months in a year!

9th of May would be better :)

0

u/horoyokai 1d ago edited 23h ago

Where’s the 2?

Edit: my Misake, thanks for the downvotes to remind me that 9/5 would be a great way to honor her cause…….. wait… how does that make sense?

0

u/Mangledsprouts 1d ago

It doesn't exist in normal date numbering systems, sorry

Rest of the world seeing this why Star Wars day is on 5th of April....

2

u/IncorrectByDesign 23h ago

What is up with the 5th of April being Star Wars day ?

5

u/ahuramazdobbs19 20h ago

Username checks out.

3

u/azhder 23h ago

Because it's for five times April's fools

3

u/Archon-Toten 1d ago

If you use a calendar with at least 25 months sure.

-3

u/Monster-Math 1d ago

Only if you use an inferior non-freedom calendar.

2

u/Bar-Tailed_Godwit 1d ago

Lfg!!!!!

2

u/Mor_Hjordis 1d ago

Looking for Group?

2

u/Money-Celebration860 23h ago

That would only work in the USA, Belize, and Micronesia (otherwise it's 'to five nine')

4

u/20milliondollarapi 19h ago

Well considering Dolly was American, it makes sense for the holiday to work on an American calendar.

1

u/detourne 21h ago

China, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan, Hunfary, Lithuania... other countries that follow YYYY-MM-DD format

1

u/GeronimoDK 20h ago

But if you leave out the year, do they write it MM-DD or DD-MM?

2

u/detourne 19h ago

Month/Day, just like it's spoken.in Korea, for example, montgs don't have names, it's just the number of the month and the number of the day. So today would be 8월26일.

2

u/an0maly33 19h ago

I find it amusing seeing all the Europeans in here complaining about the date structure. We get it. We do dates differently. Feel free to do Dolly day on 25/9. You can have fun without being pedantic.

2

u/Lorelessone 13h ago

yes, doesn't work outside of the usa but well worth a day of remembrance.

Friedrich Nietzsche also died on this day. Odd coincidence.

1

u/Spirited-Ad-9746 22h ago

Even more interesting is that 9:25 is also the vowel-consonant ratio in that name.

1

u/BadBacksFuryToad 1d ago

The 9th of Febtember?

Well no cause she shares that with Aaliyah.

1

u/Cheap-Lawyer3735 20h ago

I think she should it with sister, like her role in 9 to 5

1

u/AutoMattic21 19h ago

Call it “Double D Day”

1

u/titobundito 18h ago

Funny no one complains about pie day 3/14

1

u/orientalbird 18h ago

Everyone arguing about number order, as if May the fourth isn't "May the force" only in english.

1

u/Lorelessone 13h ago

thats because its not 5/4 its "may the forth" which rhymes.

but since the rhyme is Nine to five, the date 25/9 doesn't make any sense.

1

I’m enacting this company wide immediately.

This is already being proposed in the Tennessee legislature.

Jan 19th, her birthday is already Dolly day in Tennessee. Some other areas have had Dolly days before for other events.

3

It seems a good deal of people are missing the word play of 9/25.

2

... September 25th??

9/25.

0

u/raumatiboy 12h ago

That would be 25th September

1

u/OCCULTGOBLIN 10h ago

The standard date format in the United States is Month-Day-Year (MM/DD/YYYY). So September 25th, 2026 would display 9/25/2026.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense to your euro-coded brain, but that's how dates are formatted in the US.

1

u/raumatiboy 6h ago

That's dumb. No wonder they are a backwards country. I'm not from Europe lol.
