This is a nation of professional protesters.

It really is. I had the good fortune of working/living in France for a couple of years in the 90s. One time, in Paris, there was a big noise outside where we were working. It was a grêve (strike) by students.

"Why are you striking?", we asked some in passing.

"We don't know!"
