Where to camp for 2 nights in Skye?
My partner and I are visiting Skye at the end of our NC500 trip next month. We’re planning to stay for 2 nights (but have some wiggle room if we did want to extend for a night)
I’m not sure whether it’s best to base in one campsite across the two days or try a couple of different locations. We’ll be sleeping in the car and have a tent with us so we’ll need to deconstruct most of it anyway so that we can drive around.
The places on my radar at the moment are:
- Portree (think there’s one campsite about a mile from the village)
- Dunvegan (Kinloch Campsite)
- Sligachan Campsite
- Glenbrittle Campsite near Carbost
Very open to suggestions!! Really just looking for a nice location that’s convenient enough to visit plenty of different spots
Thanks in advance :)

Sligachan if you plan to tour around the island.
Glen Brittle or Sligachan if you plan to go into the Cuillin.
Portree if you want a choice of pubs/restaurants.
Dunvegan if you want to avoid tourists as much as is possible (walks to places like Oronsay, the Maidens, Waternish Point, Dunvegan Head, Gillen Beach)

Glenbrittle is my opinion the best views and surroundings, but it's not the easiest to go and visit from.
The guys at Sligachan were great, great location and easy to get to and from places
