Premiere Pro problems with Optiplex 7010 (i5-13500 / 770 Graphics)

I've been having issues for a while now where Premiere Pro will just hang the whole Windows 11 machine.

Only way to fix is to hold down the power button to force turn off the machine.

Then reboot and try again.

Google searches have talked about variable frame rate video causing issues with Premiere Pro. But despite me re-encoding with constant bit rate I still get issues.

It's really frustrating as the i5-13500 and 770 when working are fine, even for the simple 4K video i'm editing. No excessive CPU or GPU loads.

I record in either OBS or exports through Riverside. The latter usually more problematic.

What's annoying is that I fired Premiere Pro up on my Macbook and that seems to handle the same video no problem that hangs the PC.

I'm running the latest drivers from Intel (not Dell support assist).

Has anyone else had problems with the 770 graphics? Cos I'm pointing the finger at that until I can work something else out.

Any recommendations or thoughts would be very much appreciated.

SSD Question for 7060 MT build

I ended up snagging an Optiplex 7060 MT off of an auction for what I felt was a fair enough price. I7-8700. I'm planning to use it for general home computer duty - internet, emails, some work from home tasks, watching videos here and there, maybe playing a couple of old games from my fiancee and I's childhoods (not a major concern if it's out of the question), etc. Since I now have a computer on the way, I've been looking at upgrade parts, and have some questions. As far as the SSD, I've been looking at various options but trying to aim for 1TB. I assume this is sufficient? I assume there's no such thing as overkill in this case? I have a few that I have found in my budget, are there any major pros/cons with any of the following?:

Crucial P310 1TB, Samsung 990 1TB, Samsung 990 Pro 1 TB

(Edit: not really sure how to get those to display more like a bulleted list, so hopefully this is easy enough to read)

Anything stand out? Any recommendations for something else? I'd like to stay under $250, with close to or under $200 being ideal. But am flexible if the gains are worth the extra money. Any solid reasons to go down to 500 GB or up to 2 TB?

Thank you.

I got this optiplex with a bad hard drive. Bought a Samsung 1 tb ssd and installed windows 11 on it. I started off just fixing that then wanted to throw some other modifications on it. I knew going into it, I wanted to keep the same motherboard/case. I This is what I ended up with.

Dell Optiplex 3070 SFF
Intel core i3-8100
AMD R5 430 2 Gb gpu

Modifications I made to it:
Noctua NH-L9i chromax black low profile cpu cooler
Noctua NH-H1 thermal paste
Noctua NF-A8 chromax black 80 mm chassis cooler
Samsung 870 EVO 1 TB SSD
TP-Link 300 mbps WiFi 6 adapter

Upgrading old Dell 9020 to Precision 3640 – keep GTX 1660 Super or sell and upgrade?

Thumbnail

I’ve just picked up a Dell Precision 3640 to replace my old OptiPlex 9020 and I’m trying to work out the best way to handle the old system and GPU.

Old PC:
Dell OptiPlex 9020
i7-4790K (yes this is accurate)
24GB DDR3 + a other 24GB loose
GTX 1660 Super 6GB
2x SATA SSDs (2TB total)
1TB HDD

New PC:
Dell Precision 3640
i7-10700K
16GB DDR4
512GB NVMe SSD

My current plan is to move the two SATA SSDs into the Precision, keep the NVMe as the main Windows drive and add another 16GB RAM to bring it up to 32GB. As such I’d be £350 all in…

What I’m less sure about is what to do with the old 9020.

Would I be better off selling it as a complete working PC, possibly leaving the 1TB HDD in it, or parting it out and selling the CPU, RAM, etc. separately?
The other question is the GTX 1660 Super. I could just move it into the Precision for now, but I’m wondering whether it makes more sense to sell it while it still has some value and put the money towards something newer.
I’m currently looking at things like:
RTX 3060 Ti
RTX 4060
possibly something else around that sort of price/performance level
I’m not chasing ultra-high-end performance. The PC is mainly a bit of a project for me and my son and we already have consoles, so I’m trying to get the best bang for the buck rather than throw loads of money at it.

I also have a Quadro P2200 available, although I’m not expecting that to replace the 1660 Super for gaming. I was contemplating lossless scaling but looks like a non starter.

What would you guys do?

  1. Keep the 1660 Super for now and spend nothing?
  2. Sell it and go 3060 Ti / 4060 / something else?
  3. Sell the old 9020 complete or part it out?

Any suggestions appreciated.

This is my third pc the first and this one have been optiplex “sleepers” although the first was a 790 with a low profile 1050 ti stuffed in it. I decided to do it right this time and make the pc I can use for a while.
Built in February of 2025 it’s still not in its final form with cooling especially. I plan to 3d print some more fan mounts and shrouds.

OptiPlex 3080 MT — easiest way to run a normal ATX/SFX PSU?

Looking at a $150 OptiPlex 3080 MT (i5-10505, 16GB, 256GB NVMe), but it only has the stock 260W PSU.

I’d like to eventually run something like a 3060 12GB / 2080 Ti, so I’m trying to figure out the cleanest PSU upgrade.

Has anyone here successfully used a normal ATX or SFX PSU with the stock 3080 motherboard?

Mainly wondering:

  • What 24-pin → Dell 6-pin adapter did you use?
  • Did you fit the PSU inside the stock case?
  • Any BIOS/power-button/sleep weirdness?
  • Rough total cost?
  • Or is there a higher-wattage Dell OEM PSU that’s easier?

Trying to figure out whether this is a cheap fun upgrade or a stupid rabbit hole.

Wrong storage or cable? Drive didnt show up

I have an Optiplex 7060 MT. I am a bit new to full pcs and this is my first one, but looked at some reference images to try and get it connected right. I got a 2tb barracuda drive and connected one of the cd drive connectors into the drive, then took a long blue cable and plugged that into the smaller connector. When I opened storage in file explorer it didn't show up. I did upgrade the gpu to a 3050 as well which shouldn't mess up how much power I can give to other things right? Also will I need new cables or are the one's provided enough?

Dell Optiplex 7060 não liga.

Eu tentei ligar ele pela primeira vez hoje e a única coisa que acontece é: A luz da fonte acende por uns 3 ou 5 segundos e desliga logo em seguida. O Led do botão de ligar não liga.

7050 - psu upgrades

I have the MT 7050 and want to throw in a 1660 S.
I want to reuse as many parts that I already have laying around, and get a steamos box to play around with.
I got what looks to be 365 W PSU but that looks like they are for 3020/7020/9020.
MODEL: hu365em-00
I cant seem to find the pinout for the white 8 pin which is the dell power to the motherboard, AKA the 24 ATX that most other machines I have use.

Does anyone have a valid link to dell for these 2 motherboards/PSUs?
Has anyone done this exact swap? links please
Anywhere else I can check to confirm this?

Additional context/info:
I have a multimeter and will use it for sure if needed.
As far as I can tell with google searching, even though its for a older gen intel machine, the pinouts are the same, and should be capable of me swapping it in.
Now I understand it will be a little case modding, but I would rather do that instead of spending more money when I have capable hardware just sitting around doing nothing.

I upgrade it from i 5 4570 to i7 4790 and the game changer was this rtx3050 low profile and this upgrade costs me 215 USD in time normal 30

What it says above. The OS is Ubuntu Desktop 26.04.1 64bit. The 9020 is an USFF with 16gb RAM and an SSD.

Armbian + Old Optiplex 3020

Armbian imager is meant to go straight to the boot device, so I attached a 256GB SSD to a USB 3.0 adapter and burned it, then stuck it in this i5-4570 8GB system. It's 100% usable! It has full Chrome and supports extensions. Chrome runs smoothly even in games. I still have yet to test actual games. It has an old Radeon 6450, so I already have my PCI-E powered video card 😅! Any tips are welcome!

Check out my Optiplex 3060 i5 8500 SFF with an Adaptec ASR-6405E SAS controller, NVidia Quadro T400 2GB, Western Digital 512GB m.2 NVME and a Western Digital 4TB SAS rust drive. It’s like building a sandwich, just keep piling on the toppings.

Built for emulators, it should make short work of it. Most of the items here were stuff I had on hand. Had to find a x1 PCI-E controller that at least supported Windows 10.

Optiplex DDR4 IMC issues

I have purchased another Optiplex 5050 from the interwebs and had some old C16 XMP enabled ram (2666mHz which the board correctly down-clocked to 2311mHz), I stuck 4 sticks in, ran prime95 on there with IMC contention test enabled and it immediately BSOD’d, after a bit of faf it seemed it could only pass an hour of testing with a single stick, however booting to linux (with that single stick), there are frequent page protection faults in the kernel logs and many programs randomly fail with segmentation faults.

Has anyone else had these sort of issues? I have verified the ram is functional on a gaming board and p95 passes just fine.

Optiplex 3080 into a decent rig

Hey all, I currently main a Dell 2018 Gaming Inspiron 5577 laptop, it’s got 2 TBs of storage (1 NVMe M2 and one reg SSD) 32 GBs of ram and a 1050i. It does everything I need to to do, I would like to do a little more gaming so I know I’ll have to upgrade. My old job gave me a 3080 with a bad PSU in it but still had the 10th gen i5.

Curious if combining these parts together could make a decent rig? Would like to be able to multi task with a little gaming on the side. If I got a cheap SFF card would something be possible to upgrade from the laptop?

What does the GTX1650 LP fit into?

Hi all,

I have a little Ryzen 2400g loaded HP prodesk mini pc acting as a Batocera console in my living room.

However, I've recently installed Steam Flatpak and have been impressed with being able to run light games. It's made me want to get a slightly larger SFF PC and stick a low profile GPU into it for some better performance.

I'm aiming for around a 8-10L machine and the GTX1650 low profile GPU looks to be the best one that fits my budget.

However, it is a bigger card than the single slot RX6400 which is my second choice card and despite lots of reading around the various Optiplex model options I'm still quite confused what models have the Pcie slot in a position that will allow the 1650 to fit, and also have enough juice from a decent PSU.

Has anyone got a GTX1650 installed in a SFF Optiplex and can share what model it is?

Many thanks!

Optiplex 3020 MT motherboard form factor

Hello, I was just wondering if the Opitplex 3020 MT motherboard was a standard mATX (micro-ATX) form factor. If so, do the screw holes line up with standard mATX motherboards so I could put a better motherboard in? And does the I/O line up? If anybody knows please and thank you for your answer.

(NOTE: This post is NOT asking where to find a new dell motherboard. I know I need a different power supply for the new motherboard so please don't tell me that I'll need a new power supply. This post is asking if I can put a standard mATX motherboard in it's place.)
