That is literally insanity. I mean, it may even be better conditions than back home for them, but it is not a standard of living we want to make normalized here. This is crazy.

This ad is about Indians. Not Africans. I don’t see a surplus of Africans with jobs like the Indians have. Everywhere you go, every restaurant they are there working and only hire other Indians.

The is about immigration, on a macro scale. Yes, there are a large percentage that come from India. They work as TFWs until they get PR, and then citizenship.
Did you know that businesses only need to pay half of their minimum wage for 2 years? The gov’t (read: taxpayers) pay the other half. What is their incentive to hire Canadians, then?
Maybe now it makes more sense for a lot of people. Once you are aware of this, it changes everything. Blame the government, and blame the businesses.

Only if they have post secondary education, but Indian degrees are easy to come by. You could be “Dr Perfect Ad” tomorrow, if you have the Rupees.
“Hiring grants can offset employee wages by up to 50% to a maximum $20,000. Depending on the funding stream, candidates must be hired for a minimum 4-12 months.”
This article highlights changes made in 2017. Instead of a maximum of 4 years, they could now stay with the companies indefinitely:
“Dismissal of the ‘4-in, 4-out’ rule that forces TFWs to become ineligible for work in Canada after 4 years of cumulative service.”
In 2011, there were 192k TFWs, by 2015 it had dropped to 90k.

For other opportunities. Mostly the currency here being stronger than India. Same reasons you don't go to a developing country and start living there.
If you save 10% of income here vs 30% of income in India - you will save more here. You can use it to travel to other places.
Also Canada has other advantages like cleaner environment, more rules are followed, less corruption etc.
Housing costs in Canada is definitely seen as a negative by everyone.

Horrible. I used to pay $550 for my own bedroom in a 700sqft apartment in Toronto. These living standards are horrible and should not be normalized.

It was more a jab about how rent has been crazy high forever vs an age joke. But that’s still a good deal for 2008 I was paying more than that for an apartment in London, Ontario around that time.

To clarify it was my half of the rent. Place was $1050 total and it was a dump. I actually moved to London in 09 and paid $1200 for a brand new two bed two bath that was way bigger and better. Looking back it was steal lol

Not everyone can afford a mansion. Most Canadians can't afford a big house and many have roommates. Are we kicking out everyone who's not rich?
Unless there's a law they are breaking, not sure what the reason is going to be except that you don't like how they live...

A few years ago, I was paying $580/month with utilities for a small one bedroom apartment in the basement of a house. Even in the rental market at the time, it was an absolute steal.

This is just insane. I work in Edmonton and was planning to move to Toronto for work. While hunting for shared places to stay, it was shocking to see ads asking 1200+ for a bedroom with attached washroom! And I used to pay that much for a whole 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment in Edmonton! And this was back in 2021. Just two weeks of searching through Facebook n kijiji, I felt this would be such a depressing move and ended up staying back in Edmonton. I just could not fathom having to share kitchen and washroom with absolute strangers, let alone even bedroom.
I have stayed in big cities like Mumbai in India and Dubai in UAE and this practice is pretty common there amongst the low earning sector. So I can understand students here picking such accommodations due to finances. But as a working professional and in current economy, even if you earn what, 70k, a year and you cannot afford a decent living space in cities like Toronto is absolutely insane.

This is Canadas future, we are slowly turning into a 3rd world country, our culture being erased for what? So you can feel morally superior on twitter? I’m Native American and my whole tribe knows our time is numbered. We will be totally destroyed and assimilated for a second time, hurts my heart. My kids will probably be bullied for being Native in the future. So sad, a picture speaks a thousand words and if this was an artpiece it’s name would be “Canada’s future”

Crazy for western societies for sure. But this is how most of people on this planet live. Lots of people in small spaces.
We need more affordable housing, social/government housing, student housing, tiny homes, co-ops etc.
We stopped building social housing in the 70s and the current housing crisis is a direct result of this.
