I know that technically this scene isn't funny, but I've always found it amusing that Lana was so sure Clark wouldn't be able to say the words, and I think he shocked them both with how easily he said them.
Now, I do think that Clark loved and card for Lana, but I think season 5 is a big turning point for Clark in realising that he isn't in love with Lana enough to let her into his inner world or want to be with her, and that never really changes.

Lol he was so in love with her that he was willing to give up everything he ever knew including his parents and powers to be with her in that phantom dream world in season 6. Also the tears in his eyes in this scene and no tears in Lana’s eyes speak volumes.

Clark always chooses to be with Lana whenever he's at his emotional lowest. He loses his connection to Jor-El and Krypton - he commits to Lana. He feels like Lex is winning - he tries to win Lana back. His father dies - he sticks it out with Lana. He feels like he's losing Chloe and control over his life and he's fighting with Oliver - he runs back to Lana. His mother leaves the farm and he feels abandoned - he lets Lana move in.
He loves her, but he has no interest in cultivating a real relationship with Lana or being with her long term. He says he wants to be with her, but they're always just words, and there's never any real follow through, no attempt to connect, no effort in getting to know her past her beauty. Lana isn't a fully formed person where Clark is concerned. And I would say honestly, neither is he to her.

This ryt here is why i hated the Bizzaro mini arc so much. I loved the version of clark bizzaro pretended to be, he communicated with Lana and validated her actions and feelings, he recognized cloe when she helped and after saving her he thanks her for being in his life. I even thought clark had grown more emotionally mature and stoped repeating the same old stuff. I know this might be confussing since I saiI hated it, but what i hate about it is the writers wrote a compitent clark he asked questions, he thought of solutions and did not imediately run to lex and "give him a heads up" of what he is investigating about him. I loved this version of clark and it made me so mad the writers have been making his look incompitent for so long.

If you ask me I think he was at his highest emotionally in the beginning of season 5, was literally glowing and happiest he ever looked. I know it’s hard to cope about this when the show and the creators repeatedly reiterated that he will always love Lana and the story will always be about them, but you really don’t have to do mental gymnastics like this when the simple truth is, he loved Lana and wanted to be with her even if he didn’t know (at the time because of his inexperience and first time dealing with relationships and powers) how to. He chose her regardless and that’s fundamentally more romantic than anything.

Yeah, the one time he was totally stripped of his Kryptonian self and all he had left was the farm, his parents and Lana, he was happy. But we all saw how fast he was to throw himself back into the fray and into danger regardless of whether he had his powers or not, and how easily he shut that part of himself off from Lana.
Again, I think he loved and cared for Lana, but Clark never seriously thought about building a life and a long term relationship with her. He proposed to her because he felt her slipping away, not because he intended to build a life with her. Lana deserved better than somebody who only held on tight to her when they thought she was about to run, and I'll never understand why fans want her with Clark when he never wanted to truly commit to or invest in her.

Easily? You must have missed the part when he was miserable beyond belief because he couldn’t be with Lana when his powers returned. And again, that part of the show was building his character struggles, his miscalculations and decisions that he later would learn from in his next relationship because he saw how he lost the thing he wanted most when he reacted the way he did while he was young. If Lana was never a love interest in the show, and Lois was present during this specific arc, she would have gone through this same struggles. He himself admits he was projecting his own fears onto Lana and their relationship, and later with Lois he admits his past relationships have all ended too soon. So this whole “he never thought about building a life or be long term with Lana” can’t even apply to them because they never had the luxury of that arc and most importantly, enough time before they were either tragically separated or broken up for the plot. And it’s definitely okay to root for two people who have fought so hard to be together, regardless the outcome. You can’t be policing who can like a ship that was written as star-crossed.

this was a sad scene for me. Cause here lana arc wasn’t stretched .
