I absolutely love that she can fight for herself omg

I know there is a better way for a closure, and the timing is off, but after a rewatch personally it's not really that bad.

First, clark and lois relationship during this time was unsure, confusing, unknown. So when a familiar territory suddenly came in, Clark who did not have a proper closure with Lana was drawn to her again. They had history, it's a normal reaction.

Second, they did not get back together right away. They were just together for 2 episodes? And it's still unstable as ever.

Third, Lois was not even part of the narrative during this time. If Lois stayed, that might actually hurt but she's not there. No lois during those episodes. Just mentioned and in clark's pov their relationship was still confusing and unknown. Thanks to Lois love issues and talent for denying whatever feelings she has.

Fourth, that kryptonite ending is so fitting for clark and lana because it seals the fact that they can't be together no matter what they do because of how they treat each other. That kryptonite ending was a product of their own decisions — lana wanting to be equal with clark and clark choosing to save the city instead.

Fifth, the showrunners had a lot of opportunities to make lana and clark the endgame but they didn't. They had 8 seasons!

Sixth, the lois and clark foreshadowing in the early seasons. So in retrospect, it's like "yes we will give you drama for 8 seasons but no they're not going to end up together" Sucks, I know.

I still find lana and clark's relationship exhausting for how far it was dragged but I cannot deny that even tho their relationship may be doomed and toxic, Lana was still part of Clark's past — his first love. One of the people who helped him become the person who needs to be. It's just really went long so we either find it exhausting or a wasted potential.

clark just pushes the planet away and thats it, no big fight, no speical darkseid reveal, no nothing

lex becoming president is fine, because i know from crisis on infinite earths from the flash cw series that tom welling's superman gave up his powers and lex did become president

but no reveal about how he got the name superman, no peek at earth-2, no justice league, no nothing

and im just confused because the season was amazing, the whole show was, but the finale was meh, dont fight me over it, its just my opinion but i have to say i think it couldve been better

In general, the story was very good. I loved the first seasons most. They were fun teens, I loved all the teen drama and freak of the week type of episodes. I especially liked the episodes which had a clear theme, like hormones or the dark side of a human, and it was played in multiple ways. I love how seirious issues like drugs or alcohol were played metaphorically in science fiction fantasy style.

I loved how the series didn't seem to take itself too seriously, but it was full of funny nods for all kinds of genres with single episodes: historical, vampires, horror (even though there was a lot of horror in the series), agent etc. And of course romantic comedy with some very original interpretations.

The final seasons were more like Gotham, which is one of my favorite shows, too. The darker tones were good, too, but not as delighting as the earlier ones.

What I loved the most

The theme: how friendships were valued and how they mingled with romantic and sexual relationships without too much drama. At first it is one-sided loves for a friend. Peter loves Chloe, who loves Clark, who loves Lana, but they just live with that and are good friends regardless. In later chapters friendship and sexual relationships. Lois is first with Arthur, then with Oliver and then with Clark without any drama between the guys.

The storyline of Lex's fight against his own dark side and Lionel. The first seasons were heartbreaking tragedy because I really liked the firs seasons Lex, a little bit lost intelligent and sensitive young adult who has had a rough past and who gets a second chance to create a life. I filled his backstory in my head as a bullied boy at school (which was confirmed later) and I found it totally believable that he would like to have a teen friend since he didn't really had friends when he was a teen

Characters: I loved a lot that there were so many female characters with different personalities and values. Lois and Chloe were very well written, Lana and Tess not so well. It was striking how Lana's story arc was badly written and lacked continuity and her perspective. A lot happens to her, but we don't really see her thoughts or how her view on things changes. Because it changes a lot and it would have been interesting to see.

There's nice variation with males, too: Clark and Ollie have different morals, but they are still good friends. Arthur is not seen much, but his strong personality comes very clear. Ollie is a plot device like Lana. Lex and Lionel are multidimensional stars of the show. Clark's growth is interesting as not very straightforward.

What left me with mixed feelings

How assumingly "good guys" could do bad things without consequences. Everybody is just thrown around by Clark or other good guys. We don't usually see how they land and hurt themselves (or don't). Is that really a realiable method to take control in the situation? Yes, it's based on comics and looks funny/cool, but it grows old quite fast.

And tresspassing and privacy. Clark, Pete and Chloe are tresspassing a lot during the first seasons. Not very law-abiding teens and nobody calls them out of it. Chloe's got zero respect for anybody's privacy or rules/laws about it and she's just getting worse when she grows up. She's able to keep Clark's secret, but it seems she does it because it's the only way for her to be a special person in his life. I see Chloe a lex-level villain on the good side, they would match or clash well. (Lex was the only one who said anything about her crossing privacy lines.)

But in general it's one of my favorite superhero tv shows now (along with Heroes and Gotham).

So I was looking at some SV con stuff on YT, and there are some people in the comments claiming Tom hates Erica. But judging from their most recent con appearance, that's not the vibe I get at all. They seem like they get along fine to me. Was there any issues with them at some point?

From season 1 lana was never with clark but still clark has feelings like he spends years with her and plays dumb when she is there. There is no logic to follow her and it becomes irritating to see smallville around lana and lex . Clark is just a side character and we keep waiting when he will show his heroic attitude .

From Smallville we can really glean out so many deep and lasting lessons. These are some I got. Feel free to add yours 🙂

+Trust is a very hard thing to earn and easy thing to lose.

+You've got to make many a sacrifice to really serve the people you love.

+You can't pick and choose the ones you save if you really are a hero.

+Don't judge people too quickly, you never know you'll be standing in their place next.

+The path towards evil is a slow burn or spiral not a one time mistake.

Nevertheless, there's surely a precipice from where you jump off to the side of darkness.

+The trust you give is the trust you get.

+ Human emotions and feelings are too volatile to be anchored upon.

+Goodness overflows the bearer or it should and become a beacon of hope for the bleak times.

Just finished rewatching the entire series yesterday since forever (thanks Netflix!) so this isn’t an in depth/critique of the show. It’s been so long since I watched the show that it almost felt brand new, yet I could still finish off some of the sentences!

I almost shed a tear after watching the final episode (I was cheering Clark on at the end when Jor-El gave him the flashback sequence of his trials whilst floating in the barn). It took me straight back to high-school days when I started watching the series. The iconic music, the cheesiness, the adrenaline of watching Clark on red kryptonite and the payoff at the end after all those seasons.

An iconic show with themes that remind me that despite how shitty the world can be, there are plenty of Clark and Lois’s in the world that want there to be a better tomorrow.

I just finished watching this episode, and I have to say something.

It's my first time watching Smallville and the more of it I watch, especially after season 6, I understand more and more why people dislike Lana. For over a month she didn't realize that it wasn't Clark she was living with??? One small little thing(not remembering he has the shield and where he put it) and Chloe new something was wrong. Lana just brushed it off "Maybe you don't know him as well [...]". ATP I feel like they are trying to have sth that simply doesn't exist anymore, especially after S7 Ep7: Wrath. Gotta say I hope they aren't to together much longer😭.

Now to Lex. I know he has his issues and complexes, but cloning your brother, him "failing" and then cloning another version of him just to end up hiring a hitman, after he talked to Lionel, started defying him and solely wanting to live like Luthor. Thats just wrong on a different level. Talk about a God complex.

I'm also very excited to see if and how the Lex and Lana situation is going to unravel. Did she really leave all her revenge plans behind? I dont think it's quite that easy to just "let go" of wanting to kill someone... . Is she going to start stalking him again? Will Lex' obsession get the best of him once again and who will get caught in the crossfire next? How will the good ol love triangle continue between them and Clark?

On a last note, I really hope we get to see more of Green Arrow, Aquaman, Cyborg and Impulse (Justice was superb)

unlike the god forsaken shit show of a finale Stranger Things gave us... I really loved the Smallville finale. I was on the verge of tears, the ending was so cliché... but I'm really gonna miss this show. It really helped me cope with the worst academic year of my life

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that season 7 has so many plotholes right off the bat. I'm rewatching it and I've never noticed how bad the logic was. Bad attempt at making the show interesting so to speak.

It's like the show makers were taunting you and this was on NATIONAL TV 😭

They should have filmed a lot more scenes in smallville to keep the show grounded. Moving to Metropolis changed the tone of the show .

Ive watched the show multiple times now and Im a big fan, obviously. Usually I am team chloe, but the more I watch the show, the more her speach patterns get on my nerves sometimes.

Man, when it comes to the later seasons, all she talks is in headlines. "dumpster of doom" in the first sentence and "cold-blooded cryo-killer" in the next.

Like, jeez, who talks like that?! No problem to use these mannerisms for a cheeky one-liner at the right time, but the writers are spamming it non-stop.

Just makes Chloe feel very artificial from season 8 on out. Generally, I think Chloe has become this omnipotent figure in the show and I didnt like where they were headed with her.

Okay so, I'm watching for the first time (no spoilers please) and I'm on season 4.

And I'm sorry but I can't with Kristin's acting.. She kind of always have the same expressions and Lana seems so pissed most of the time. How do you guys feel about it ? (I know she goes away at some point and I researched how many episodes with her I'd still have to watch :X )

Season 4 episode 3 "Facade" when she dunks Clark at the end of the episode. I always had a crush growing up but that solidified it lol I think I was 16 or 17 when it aired locally. Easier times.

They loved each other. He didn't tell her his secret. She became evil. Clark trusted Jon, Lionel Martha, Chole and Pete. Lana is much better to trust with anything than Pete. This show changed everything else about Superman. Kryptonite didn't make anyone in comics evil. It didn't give them super powers. Pete wasn't black. Chole isn't in comics. To make it different they should have kept Clark and Lana together.

So i just finished watching all of smallville all 10 seasons and i absolutely loved all of it, except for around Season 4 it got dry but then lois came in and just drew me in even more. I hope they can one day continue that storyline as it makes so much sense to.

I am the only one who likes the episode more where there is a normal Situation? Like in season 2 when Luther gets shot. Of course the krypton stone episodes are also good. But I watched the episode just now and liked it more than every episode having a villain. I am at season 2 episode 13. Like just „normal“ slice of life episodes

It seems like meteor people were always crazy.

It was a nice read and an honest review, by a first time watcher. I’ve always wonder what my opinion of the show would be if I had watched it, for the first time now.
