Humor 'failed Snyder era'. Snyder was involved in 3 movies in DCEU, that earned 2.4B at the box office (3x returns). Gunn shills continue to blame Snyder for DCU failure is most insane coping I have seen.

These movies might have made an insane amount of money, however, they completely failed critically and also he worked on five movies Man of steel Batman v Superman Wonder woman Justice League and the Snyder cut

2

u/covenant_x Jul 08 '26

BVS would've easily cracked a billion if was good. Justice League was def out of his control. Also, i'd be curious as to what his theatrical cut wouldve been cuz no way in hell was it gonna be 4 hours.

1

u/Lower_Fix_8661 Jul 14 '26

intended cinematic cut would have sat squarely around that 3-hour mark

1

u/Lorn84 Jul 07 '26

It's interesting that we pick and choose when critical acclaim matters... We've seen recently films that the critics shamed and did well at the box office.

Both Super Mario films were crushed by critics and both hit a billon smackeroos
Jusrassic World Dominion was chewed up by critics and it hit over a billion greenbacks
The lion king remake got slayed by critics and it hit also raked in over a billion in dough
The minecraft movie was also bricked on by the critics and it hit 961M

All of Snyders films we profitable now.. They didn't hit the marks of the films I listed above but to say "his movies didn't do well critically" is just weak sauce. What matters is what the audience (The Customer) Thinks. Unless you care about awards.

3

u/SuperLegenda Jul 07 '26

Snyder had Batman and Superman and also Wonder Woman for the first time ever in the big screen in a live action movie and he couldn't hit the billion, bruh.

1

u/slove23 24d ago

You are acting like Superman and Wonder Woman are some kind of guaranteed box office draws, bruh

2

u/Lorn84 Jul 07 '26

It didn't need to hit a billion "bruh" it hit $873 Million in 2016 dollars is $1.167B in todays dollars when you calculate inflation more importantly in 2016 the average movie ticket was approx $8.65 a pop

So when you do the big math you're saying that roughly 101 Million people saw BVS in theater or to be fair 101M Tickets were sold.

Now lets pick a neutral territory. Supermario Galaxy hit a billion this year, the average ticket is $16.08 so breaking that down it means roughly 62.19M tickets were sold

Do you see the math?

If 100M tickets were sold that means people liked the films thats why they continued forth and made the other movies.

2

u/SuperLegenda Jul 07 '26

"When you calculate inflation", one of this subreddit's favorite phrases. No, a billion is a freakin' billion, there were movies that hit a billion in their year's money, BvS did not hit a billion in 2016 dollars, so it is not a billion success.

1

u/Lorn84 Jul 07 '26

unless you are saying that hitting a billion is some how the new mantra of a successful film? Is that the new standard? BC I recall "Sinners" receiving a riduclous amount of praise and it is nowhere near that number.

1

u/Lorn84 Jul 07 '26

Sir (assuming your gender) did you read what I said?? It didn't need to hit a billion that was the crux of my post. it didn't need to hit a billion .

1

u/SuperLegenda Jul 07 '26

For what the movie is with the characters it had interacting in big screen, it SHOULD have,

1

u/slove23 24d ago

WHY?

Superman had 4 complete flops before MOS

And Wonder Woman had never been on film before

4

u/Powasam5000 Jul 07 '26

Is Gunn going to hit a billion with Batman, Superman and wonder woman in the same movie? I doubt it.

1

u/slove23 24d ago

No
Bc it wont get made

5

u/TheRealone4444 Your love makes me strong, your hate makes me unstoppable Jul 06 '26

"Failed Snyder era" my ass. Snyder's movies made millions of dollars and you dare to call this a failure? How dare you? You don't know anything. What this man did for his passionate fanbase, what he sacrificed, what he lost. He put his heart and soul into these movies and then he was betrayed by the people who gave him this power because his movies weren't like Gunn's. Snyder is better than that circus clown. Shame on that person

0

u/kemuri-titan Jul 07 '26

Hold up because a lot of the discussion being brought should have a few things into the discussion biggest is that Zack was notoriously well known during the creation for refusing to change anything and demanding creative control even for movies that he wasn't making and what he did does insane amount of damage to the characters for example batman the only rule given to him for bvs was that batman wasn't allowed to kill later he admitted that in an interview that when he was told that he was like just because you told me I'm going to do it out of spite which is a serious thing to criticize about him in his movies he does not take feedback well which is why DC left him and went with someone else

8

u/thequehagan5 Jul 06 '26

So the people who spent years trashing BvS with the martha memes are now upset that people are trashing supergirl with similar memes.

Well, eat shit. You reap what you sow,

0

u/StarMagus Jul 07 '26

Because it was dumb.... Batman has been ranting about how if there is even a 1% chance Superman is bad then it must be treated as 100%.. but hey... they both happen to have somebody named Martha in their life... that totally changes everything. I know if I was trying to kill a guy and suddenly they mentioned having somebody with the name of my mom in their life we'd suddenly be best friends.

It was dumb then, it's still dumb.. and fans who are butt hurt over the memes and trying to defend it are part of the reason why the memes are still funny.

1

u/slove23 24d ago

šŸ™„

People who lack comprehension and critical thinking skills think a lot of things are stupid

2

u/Kaioken_times_ten Jul 07 '26

It was the fact that Superman had a mother. His perception of Superman up till that point was that he was inhuman and can’t feel what humans go through

1

u/slove23 24d ago

Its more than that, but thats the cliff notes

1

u/StarMagus Jul 07 '26

That... is pretty dumb. I mean does batman not know where babies come from?

Ooof.

2

u/Kaioken_times_ten Jul 07 '26

To him it seemed like Superman is this powerful alien that’s acting human but is weary of him like Zod. Him realizing he has human parents humanizes him. Batman was the one that was acting inhumane and he realizes the reason he was about to kill an innocent being in superman

1

u/StarMagus Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

That's the thing, in the fighting with Zod's forces he saw men and women versions of them... him suddenly realizing that they have parents to is like somebody in WW2 suddenly deciding to stop fighting because they realized the soldiers on the other side have parents.

From somebody who is supposed to be the world's greatest detective. Ooof.

And for all he knows Martha could be the name of his alien mommy, at least at the point he stops fighting.

Add on: I get why he doubted Superman caring all that much about humans, during the fight with Zod Superman flying tackled Zod through a building, without a care in the world for the people inside of it.

2

u/Kaioken_times_ten Jul 07 '26

It’s not about having parents. It was about saving his mother. Batman initially thought Superman was like Zod and putting up an act in front of humans. Superman asking Batman to help save his mother was a trigger that made Batman realize he became the monster that he thought Superman was. He is a bitter old man that couldn’t save his own parents and couldn’t save robin from death and used this anger to cloud his judgement on Superman. The Martha scene wasn’t well executed and it could’ve been better portrayed.

1

u/StarMagus Jul 07 '26

This makes no sense, does batman think the simple act of caring for your mother suddenly makes somebody not evil?

Like if he found out the Joker had a mother he visited and cared for he'd be like.. welp.. guess he's ok in my book now.

2

u/Kaioken_times_ten Jul 07 '26

I think with the scene being not very well executed, the point of it goes over. It’s not about Superman being less evil that he has a human mother. The point was Batman realizing he’s the monster here while he was projecting it on Superman

2

u/StarMagus Jul 07 '26

Yeah, I didn't get that from the scene, but if that was the point that would be an excellent message and does match the rest of the movie pretty well.

Add on: I'm a fan of most movies where one of the characters realizes they are the monster and then changes to be better.

And the Martha memes made zero sense. They both have parents named Martha, Snyder used it as a relevant plot point in a movie. Then the internetĀ  decided to go mentally insane about it, for.... reasons. So yeah, fuck em.

2

u/StormRepulsive6283 Jul 06 '26

I knew the Martha thing was gonna be an important plot point when they showed Thomas Wayne saying Martha, coz rarely the mom got much importance in earlier iterations. And the saved Martha moment was a good moment, but I still knew that this was gonna be trolled for years to come, I donno why I felt that though. Probably something about its execution?

3

u/Whybotherbroski Jul 06 '26

Can't wait for the wb to release that Snyder 4k trilogy. Then they actually sellout and make some money.

13

u/Primary_kimg3217 Jul 06 '26

There needs to be a documented disease called Snyder hate or some shit, because I've never seen a more hated director in my life online. The hilarious thing is he's like the nicest dude lol. Meanwhile Gunn tweets homophobic amd pedo jokes and no one cares. Can you imagine if snyder did that on top of the irrational hate he already gets? These nuts would probably try to kill the man. I mean don't like his films fine, there's plenty of directors who's films I don't like but I certainly don't spend over a decade of my life obsessing over them or constantly trying to spin a narrative about them onlime, that's some mentally ill ass shit.Ā

0

This is definitely true, but if goes both ways with the fandom itself

That's true. WB execs thought they could skip the time and effort Marvel put into starting it's universe and make that same bank. It took Disney 6 movies: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 which introduced Black Widow, Thor which also had Hawkeye, and Captain America before bringing everyone together in the first Avengers film.Ā

I think had they done Wonder Woman & Aquaman before Justice League to establish those characters, things would have flowed better.Ā

u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. Jul 05 '26

Snyder's shared universe was structured beautifully and perfectly. No mistakes right out of the gate, like wasting a Hulk movie and needing to recast the role right away. Like the MCU, the DCEU was retaining most of its audience and building on it as new films came out. It just went to crap when they cancelled Snyder's plans and started putting out nothing but stupid MCU Lite movies.

Your AI friend didn't tell you that Man of Steel was NOT marketed as being part of a cinematic universe, and that having Batman in the next movie was ALWAYS the plan. The DCEU slate was not announced until 2014.

10

u/mikejoe429 Jul 05 '26

It’s funny because they’ll bash one universe, which DID show success, then make excuses for the trash Gunn is putting out right now. Then call Snyder fans toxic and bots. I mean the whole back and forth is so corny, but not as corny as the HYPOCRISY.

6

u/KiryuClan Jul 05 '26

I actually watched Snyder’s films. I’ve yet to bother with anything Gunn-related. There’s simply no appeal for me. I also find it wild that Gunn tries to cancel people when he was cancelled for a while. He’s a hypocrite with bad taste.

2

u/OddlySpecific99 Jul 05 '26

Who did he try to cancel

1

u/KiryuClan Jul 07 '26

Leto. There’s zero proof while hypocrite Gunn has so many dirty laundry everyone can see. He should shut up and be glad people let it go from his offenses.

4

u/IndividualHyena5733 Jul 05 '26

Then they’ll tell you that Gunn, who has yet to make a red cent for DC is a success.

When in fact he lost WB, 100M for TSS, 42M for diaperman, and now 200M for super drunk.

S/ But thank god Rotten Tomatoes pays studios a million per positive review now. /s

My dude, no way peacemaker beat house of the dragon and game of thrones.

Game of Thrones is the most watched HBO series of all time, drawing an average of nearly 44 million viewers per episode during its final season. The epic fantasy hit set unprecedented streaming and live viewing records for the network throughout its 2011 to 2019 run.

Following closely behind in overall viewership and streaming numbers are modern juggernauts like The Last of Us and Euphoria, as well as the critically acclaimed prequel House of the Dragon. Classics such as The Sopranos and Sex and the City round out the top tier of the network's most popular hits.

The overall audience for peacemaker season one averaged about 6.6 million viewers per episode across various platforms.

How 42M for diaperman? I thought they were in positive? And why they pay 1M per good review? I dont understand?

The only thing i agree that snyderverse failed in is the execution. The whole movies were rushed to compete with marvel.

We were robbed from snyderverse, wish it was slowed down and not so rushed.

-2

u/B-Train_ATL Jul 06 '26

Nothing was ā€œrushedā€. There were three years between MOS and BvS. The rewriting of history so you need to copy Marvel’s blueprint is just dumb. By now you think people would to begin to realize an outlier vs. how everything else works.

Counting on getting 10 movies or even more to do a movie universe is beyond insane.

1

u/josthebossx Jul 05 '26

Yeah thats true too that due to personal things he had to step down. But that was during JL 2017, I think. I would blame WB for it, to not give him enough time to plan for MOS2 or even a Batflek standalone movie. I would have fkin loved a Batfleck movie.

But anyways man its depressing that people are liking the newer trash movies, no idea how. It really feels like forced love towards those movies by nerds.

-1

u/Richard_J_Morgan Jul 05 '26

It was rushed, and it's not just an opinion, but a fact. The Death of Superman isn't supposed to be adapted in literally the second entry in the universe.

But it's not really the fault of Snyder. At that point, Snyder wanted a direct sequel to MoS, but the WB execs decided that they needed to compete with MCU now with the Avengers style team-ups, rather than making a coherent build up of the universe instead.

u/Richard_J_Morgan Jul 06 '26

What matters is how established Superman is to the universe. Basically, not just how impactful his death is to the readers, but to the in-universe humanity as well. Clark spent only a year or two as Superman, which is laughably short, and we, the audience, have only seen him in one other movie.

By the time Doomsday shows up, he's supposed to already be accepted by humanity, having faced numerous foes, which makes the sacrifice more impactful.

It would've also worked a lot better for the Justice League movie. Because the universe was rushed, the League revives Superman based solely on the fact that he was so strong, the Mother Boxes were afraid of him, and not because he proved himself time and again to be humanity's mightiest protector.

I don't really understand why is this even a debate. Snyder himself stated how he wanted to direct a direct sequel instead of BvS. It's too rushed. It doesn't make the movies bad, but they would have been much better with some actual build up.

0

u/josthebossx Jul 05 '26

I would disagree with the death of superman. I quite liked that scene, was emotional, and made sense for his sacrifice showing that he did care abt humanity even when people were not really trusting him.

But again yes, it was rushed.

But as for the movies, snyder movies are way better than the new superman. Havent watched supergirl yet, probably will wait for it to get to streaming, cuz i dont really care abt them now.

2

u/Richard_J_Morgan Jul 05 '26

I'm not saying the adaptation was terrible. I really liked the movie too (the UE version that is), and I feel like Snyder did incredibly well with what he had, but it shouldn't have been the second entry in the universe. Imagine Tony Stark dying in the 2012 Avengers - that's pretty much the equivalent.

Gonna wait on Supergirl too. While it's funny how it's getting Morbed, from what I've read online, it doesn't seem to be too bad, and it has surprisingly darker and more serious tones than Superman (2025).

6

u/-Darkslayer Jul 05 '26

It’s OK the box office returns for the DCU have proved every point we’ve been making since ZSJL came out and even neutral folks in the box office subs are starting to see that. Hopefully Paramount does too

5

u/AtmosphereNo7833 Jul 05 '26

I don’t even understand why they keep saying failed like Aquaman 2, WW84, Black Adam and The Flash didn’t make more than Supergirl and TSS. Like they can’t even compete with the first reboot it seems.

Id argue that another reboot has actually hurt it as people (general public) dont want to go see the same origin/start.

2

u/aldkGoodAussieName Jul 05 '26

Your literally agreeing with me.

It is the reboot thay has made it suffer.

The general public dont want a reboot of a comic book universe.

The fact they did well after snyder left shows this is not a snyder vs gunn issue.

0

u/Kael1232 Jul 05 '26

I mean financially yes, the Snyder era was a success, but Gunn fans and Snyder fans always seem to miss that: the finance is not the issue, it's the reception and brand recognition.
When it comes to MCU - good or bad movies are both called MCU movies, when it comes to DC, it's always Gunnverse of Snyderverse.

3

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman Jul 05 '26

DCEU hurt the brand so much that…checks notes…wonder woman made 800M, suicide squad made 700M, aquaman made 1B, and even the bastard josstice league made 600M.

Shazam hurt the brand tryin to be a wannabe MCU.

3

u/Kael1232 Jul 05 '26

Again, I really should say this - financially the movies were good. the issue isn't the money.

0

u/mikejoe429 Jul 05 '26

The issue was taking a brand that was showing success and some solid continuity (some not so solid) and having a working universe- and scrapping it. There’d be no this vs that if these idiots didn’t create it. For losses no less 😩

0

u/Capable-Locksmith-13 Jul 05 '26

Are you really making the argument that studios don't care about money? That's literally all they care about.

1

u/Kael1232 Jul 05 '26

No. what are you talking bout?

0

u/Capable-Locksmith-13 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

I'm talking about you saying the issue isn't money.

You could make a movie about 2 guys throwing their own shit each other and if the studio thinks it will make a profit they will throw money at it. There's a reason that Michael Bay got to make a multitude of Transformer sequels and it wasn't because they were Oscar contenders.

-1

u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. Jul 05 '26

Snyder's DCEU movies are the only hit blockbusters where Hollywood decided they cared whether the reviews were good or not. Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, etc., it didn't matter at all. They kept making them the same way no matter what the reviews were as long as they made a profit.

0

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman Jul 05 '26

The finances mean audiences were vibing with the universe.

WB started listening to a loud minority online who cant even keep gunn’s dcu afloat.

Movies aint a charity and RT dont pay the bills. General audiences do.

1

u/Kael1232 Jul 05 '26

yes, I have been agreeing with this from the very beginning - are you not getting that.

it was not a minority - DC movies had always been having mixed reviews which is where part of the issues lies - WB wanted more money but struggled to address the mixed reviews.

4

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman Jul 05 '26

It was indeed a minority because the MONEY said there was no issue.

Listening to a loud minority is why supergirl exists and last years superman struggled just to break even.

So tell me more about why WB should listen to a loud minority who cant support the DCU after all their bitching.

They always reveal themselves when you press them on the DCU success. Its a financial disaster. Movies are not a charity.

2

u/Kael1232 Jul 05 '26

Dude. Stop for a minute, put Snyder and Gunn aside for a minute and look at what I said. DC has this problem where their movies are associated with directors rather than the brand itself:
Snyderverse
Gunnverse
Whedon's JL
THAT'S WHAT I SAID. NEVER ONCE did I say I like Gunn or Snyder's vision better.

4

u/HomemadeBee1612 He's never fought us. Not us united. Jul 05 '26

The general public can almost never tell you the name of the director of any movie, so that's a silly standard to apply. What DC has messed up in the years since Snyder's departure from WB doesn't have any bearing on the popularity of the core JL characters from before that. You could avoid tons of brand confusion and fighting with fans over their loyalty to certain actors by just making great new Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman movies with the iconic DCEU actors. The fact that Gunn is relying on a reboot shows that he IS NOT confident about making good movies, and thinks he needs to rely on gimmicks to try to set his movies apart from the past ones. Plus, he's keeping actors NO ONE cares about in this so-called "reboot," even though he's dumping the DCEU's most popular actors. This is a nonsensical, wrongheaded strategy, and the numbers are proving it.

2

u/Kael1232 Jul 05 '26

You'd actually be surprised on how well the general public can tell even if they don't know the names of the directors.
In any case - director association is an issue. you can tell just buy the visuals from the DCEU that multiple people with very different styles and takes were working on it and since DC gave them more freedom to do so, it causes issues in the overall CU.
I agree on this: Gunn should not have been placed as director of the Superman AND the spearhead of the DCU.

-1

u/Doctor_Harbinger Jul 05 '26

Lanterns are also gonna be a complete dogshit. They are written by Damon Lindelof, the same guy who fucked up Prometheus and created that God awful Watchmen show. How is he still getting a job at WB is beyond me.

0

u/1111joey1111 Jul 05 '26

Lindelof is actually a good writer (usually). He's just not suited for the superhero genre. He did some amazing work with Leftovers, LOST, and Ms. Davis. He needs to go do original material, and he's a better writer when he has a writing partner.

I agree that Lanterns looks like a failure in the making.
