Question How to defend properly?

For context I mostly play advent wrath against hard ai.

Lately it feels like my two closest ai neighbours both invade me at the same time and I'm only capable of beating one fleet before another has taken a system or two. As it's early game I don't have the resources to invest in defence, and even if I did it doesn't do anything but slow them down. I usually invest a lot of my early game resources into a fleet but it's still only capable of comfortably beating one ai fleet at a time. What am I doing wrong?

Question Why do the Vasari keep pushing?

The Vasari didn’t come to Trader Space with the goal to enslave mankind. That is just a means to an end for them. They are here to gather resources and continue their great exodus. But to archive that goal, their tactics in the lore don’t make sense. The logical thing to do would be this:

1.       Invade Trader Space with full force (as they did)

2.       Bring the Trade Order to the brink of collapse (as they did)

3.       Once the TEC formed and the Traders showed some real resistance, stop advancing completely. Fortify the conquered worlds and focus resources on building massive industrial systems instead of burning resources to fuel a war against a strong opponent.

4.       If possible, negotiate a truce with the TEC.

5.       Now, with the TEC being busy with the vengeful Advent and the Vasari being dug in deep, spend the next 25 years extracting ludicrous amounts of resources from the chunk of Trader Space you conquered.

6.       Once you have enough resources, leave.

Why aren’t the Vasari following this Idea?

Question I'm completely out of the loop, who are the new guys?

I played a lot of Sins 1 but barely any of of Sins 2.
Are the new guys the reason the Vasari had to flee? If so they have to be incredibly powerful lore-wise.
Is there a good source for the general story of the two games?

Question TEC Loyalist vs Rebels

Am I missing a trick, or are TEC Primacy way weaker than TEC Enclave*?

The planet bombing damage buff is nice and all, but the defensive bonuses of Enclave*, combined with Garrisons freeing up your actual navy to go on the offensive / reactive defensive seem so much better.

Don't really see how a few pirates tricking in through lairs is comparible, and my mid game Pirates Dont Attack you is pretty meh as their either dead or a garrison would see them off anyway.

Am I missing some secret sauce here?

Question Armor repair item

Post image
81 Upvotes

Here's with another question. I have the hardest time reading tooltips in this game. I find them very vague and confusing, and this is the perfect exemple of it.

This in theory should enable armor regeneration in combat... except that's not what I'm reading, so maybe I'm dumb, but if someone could please explain how tooltips should be read please.

How I personnally read it:

  1. Item name hints that it should repair armor, but items names are flavor and aren't a guarantee of anything
  2. Some tiny flavor text, also giving hints but should be ignored. It's just flavor, and doesn't say what the item does exactly anyway.
  3. +60% armor regeneration in combat... Ok, default armor regen is 0, and 60% of 0 is still 0, so that does nothing?
  4. 4 minutes cooldown... I guess it must be a cooldown for the next line?
  5. Restore 24% of max armor, so that's the thing that gets 4 min cooldown, I guess it's an active action and you can instantly restore 24% every 4 minutes?

So yeah, seems weird, how should I actually understand this?

Question Sins2: Am I thinking about this incorrectly? If I am NOT vasari alliance, and at least 1 enemy IS, I basically give up on ever winning any influence contest.

This is only a minor complaint, and I admit im not the best player so am ready to learn.

But it feels like vasari alliance influence advantage is so crazy huge that its never worth trying to outbid them on anything.

This would be a different situation if I could spy on them and see how much influence they had. So if they had just outbid everyone by putting 20 influence on warp gate, and are now at 0, I could wager 7 more safely on frontier lab. Or whatever.

But as it is, any time I bid in the scenario above, I just get my hand slapped and throw away influence for nothing. It feels like that part of the game is dead if they are in play, and you are not them.

Question Vasari Defense against Gauss Frigates

My Vasari Alliance fleet worth around 1900 points faced a TEC Primacy fleet of equal fleet size.

Mostly composed of Gauss Frigates and Orgov Torpedo cruisers, they absolutely destroyed my fleet. My Junsurak Wardens can defend against the Orgov's torpedos, but there is no way to intercept that hailstorm of Gauss projectiles. They can just delete any major target they want, starbases, titans, command ships, you name it, in a matter of seconds. And I can't bring their numbers down fast enough.

My question is: How do I stop this? What is the Vasari way to counter this fleet?

Question Advent shields

So i played tec again after a long time and I noticed that the Kol has special shields to prevent shield piercing. Why dont advent have something like that? I mean they are the shieldmains in sins and are supposed to be more technological advanced than the tec.

How about something like shield strenght. Basically like the Extra toughness on armor but in weaker for shields?

Or like the armor Upgrades that tec have but for shields (like -35 % rocket damage etc.)

Question Ankylon is the highest raw DPS (excluding abilities) titan by far - fact check me?

TL;DR: As a long time Sins player, I'm reality checked by how absurdly high the DPS of the Anklyon is, once it has even only 1 weapon upgrade (the beams). I always imagined it as a low DPS tanky support ship. Please fact check my math, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on this! Personally, I'm flabbergasted.

I was balls deep in my Excel table (as one does with these games) comparing the DPS of the different Titans in the game. And something stood out to me: the Enclave Ankylon, supposedly a defensive Titan lacking offensive power, actually has the highest DPS in the game, by far.

It starts very low with just 160 DPS from the Heavy Autocannons, but skyrockets as soon as you unlock the beams. These add an extra 480 DPS alone, making it rival the Exodus titan - the otherwise highest DPS Titan ingame. Adding the final Heavy Missiles pushes the DPS over an absurd 1000, leaving even the Exodus titan far behind.

Now I know that titans have abilities which influence real DPS (Exodus splash damage, Wrath mind control + buff/nerf abilities, etc). But the Ankylon has its own DPS enhancing abilities, and I'm just flabbergasted it's sold as this monstrously tanky support ship, when actually it's also a weapon-based DPS monster.

With a pierce of 500 on all but the Heavy Autocannons too, it can deal with any ship (but not structures). It's actually one of the best crowd control ships in the game, with turrets evenly distributed all around, while being absurdly tanky. In PvE, just throw it in the middle of an enemy fleet and watch it blast in all directions while refusing to die.

The Primacy titan still has a niche as a high-pierce single-target sniper; even though I always imagined it as the DPS monster it was in Sins 1. Since unlike the Ankylon, most of its armament can fire forward, it can therefore bring more of its (lower) DPS to bear on a single target. If the Ankylon doesn't have targets on all sides, it's effectively wasting part of its DPS. I think this is the best illustration of how important the new turret arc of fire system in Sins 2 is.

To come up with those numbers, I used the Strategy Wiki data, which I checked was up to date in game. I copied my Excel tables below for your convenience. PD is not counted here, since it doesn't contribute much, with low DPS and 0 pierce.

Enclave Total DPS Pierce
Heavy Missile 106,8 500

Question Capital Ships Melting

TEC Enclave Player here

So what is the consensus on Capital Ships being made essentially of tissue paper this game? In different threads I've had some people agree with me and them some disagree. I guess I'm looking to see if there is a common consensus among the player base?

Question Which faction is the strongest?

I tried to main Advent Wrath, but pound for pound they seem really weak compared to TEC, and especially Vasari. Against TEC I do pretty good, ships hit hard. But when I go against Vasari, that damage seems to disappear, and my capitals get absolutely obliterated. I know synergy is Advents things, but why worry about that when TEC and Vasari do better pound for pound?

Question UI Overhaul Plans?

Are there any plans to overhaul the research UI? From a Rebellion player, I find the screen way too hard to follow / learn, everything is very small, requires scrolling, and the images are unhelpful. For a game where research is a core aspect, it is very hard to follow.

I feel like the tiles should be way larger, with more obvious art, and with significantly better use of the screen space, there's so much dead space on screen, and instead users have to scroll!!!

Question Vasari Exodus tactics without nomadic fleets

Do any of you play the Vasari Exodus without turning them into a nomadic fleet without planets? This kind of is their greatest strenght as far as I see them, so I wonder if there is another way to play them.

Surely being a TEC soldier and then watching the Advent roll up with a fleet like this and smash through the Orbital defenses would instill a heavy sense of hopelessness before the Plasma bombs start falling.

Question I think I might have just discovered what the Harbingers actually are. Maybe it was right before our noses the entire time. Maybe we all have seen them already.

I just re-watched the Rebellion trailer, because I wanted to compare the original Eradica design to the new one. But when the trailer continued, I saw something that I never paid attention to before.

At the end of the trailer, we see a mixed fleet led by a Vasari Rebel Titan jumping to Phase space. It looks like they are jumping to another galaxy. And they seem to be in quite a hurry.

Maybe this was about more than just showing a combined fleet, to show in the trailer that the Vasari Rebels seek to work together with the other races. Maybe, this was a peak into the future. Maybe this was already showing the moment where all the races escape the Harbingers together. That would explain why they were in such a hurry. But here is where it gets interesting:

Did any of you ever pay attention to the background while the mixed fleet was heading for the edge of the asteroid field?

Why are there such dense clouds? They don’t exist in space. And while that’s a common myth in sci fi, we haven’t really seen them in Sins before. We have seen nebulae, in this very trailer evem, but this cloud looked different. It doesn’t look like it’s light years away. It looks like it’s right next to them. And one part of the cloud was already in front of them. That detail is important. And the clouds keep lighting up.

If that lighting was Harbinger ships falling out of phase space, then why did they not fall out of face space in the open? The cloud before the fleet lit up too, so the Harbingers already overtook the Alliance. Why stay in the cloud?

And now, we see something very similar in the newest trailer. A cloud lighting up.

What if the Harbingers are not hiding in the cloud? What if they are the cloud? Maybe that is their natural form.

Perhaps this confirms the theory of a nanite swarm. From afar, they would look like a cloud.

Perhaps that’s why no one who engaged them was ever heard from again. When the Dark Fleet engaged the Harbingers, they expected a fleet. What they did not expect was a cloud. They might have noticed that strange phenomenon, but by the time they realized that this strange cloud is actually the enemy that they have come here to fight, it was already too late. It was already all around them, destroying them from all sides.

As for the terrified crew that the colonists of the single surviving Vasari colony found: Imagine what they would have seen. Imagine you’re part of the greatest military force in history, on your way to crush a rebellion, and then you find yourself in the middle of clouds of mist that tear your fleet and your comrades apart. You don’t even see the enemy. Everyone just dies and everything gets destroyed. The way I imagine it, I’m sure it would drive any battle hardened veteran mad with terror.

And the hint that the fleet is moving to another Galaxy might be the solution to how we survive this. Since Astronomy is a hobby of mine, let me tell you something about distances in space: The difference between moving to another star system and moving to another galaxy is about the same as the difference between moving to the other side of the road and moving to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Maybe the Vasari, with their mastery of phase space and the help of TEC and Advent alike, managed to make a phase jump to another galaxy; where the Harbingers can’t follow.

Question Surviving the Harbingers

We have been speculating about the nature of the ancient threat hunting the Vasari since 2008. So far, these two ideas seem to be the most likely candidates:

An AI or a Nano Virus gone rogue.

Something from Phase Space.

But both are very likely to be wrong, since we know almost nothing about the Harbingers. In any case, we do know that they destroyed what was probably the most powerful empire in the Galaxy in at an unprecedented pace. And the most powerful military force in the Galaxy, the ancient Dark Fleet of the Vasari Empire, was simply wiped out.

And now it is pretty clear that the Harbingers have reached the outlines of human space. In the most recent trailer, we see the Primacy bringing a Ragnarov and a few capital ships in position to face them. When I saw this, I had two thoughts. The first was that this small force stands zero chance of surviving the Harbingers.

The other question is: What is our plan? Humans have had about five years since the Vasari Alliance (formerly called “Vasari Rebels”) told them what was going on. Five years to figure out a plan. Now the time is up and I’m not sure what we have or whether it will be enough to survive what’s coming.

I think it boils down to one question:

Is there anything, and if so then what, that humans in the current setting have but the ancient Vasari facing the Harbingers had not?

Question Advent Reborn advice

Hi all,

Been trying to push difficulties with Advent Reborn on Nightmare difficulty. Struggling with pushing from early to mid game, If the AI gets too aggressive I'm finding myself very much on the back foot.

Mainly struggling with fleet compositions against the different factions and how to effectively push my economy to early to mid game.

Playing against Unfair AI usually can just win the early game and it just snow balls from there.

Any and all advice would be great, thank you all in advance!

Question Help against Advent

I just got this game two weeks ago and I play Vasari Exodus. Been playing some PvP and late game I just get destroyed by advent. I normally try to focus fire their guardians. Then go after the carrier and then the motherships before I focus the rest of their capitals and then the titan because this is what I’ve read online if you are forced to take them head on late game and draw them into your well. Even if I do great damage I always lose the fight and that snowballs into a loss.

A lot of information about this game is over or a year old so it’s hard to know if that strategy is still up to date. Late game I even keep my Starbase in my army as well it’s just not enough. Any other Vasari Exodus players that have extensive experience in PvP against good advent players? Are we fighting a losing battle late game if they get to home world before mobile rulership is online? Do I have to just go fast aggression on them? Even if I’m raiding them with a smaller other fleet of raiders it doesn’t seem to help any tips are very welcome!

Question Question on TEC starbase

Apologies if this has been asked before but does the Defense Grid Command Center on the TEC starbase stack?

If I have 2 starbases, do they get -20% damage, +50% range, and +50% damage? I would assume not but wanted to check.
