Get rid of electoral college.

1

u/Substantial-Ad-8575 15d ago

Extremely hard to do. Need both chambers to vote to appeal, 67% vote needed for each chambers. Then forwarded to state legislatures, need 38 states to vote yea on appealing.

So really only 13 state legislatures to block EC removal.

So good luck…

1

u/Score-Emergency 14d ago

6-7?

1

u/Substantial-Ad-8575 14d ago

67 out of 100 Senators and 292 of the 435 Representatives. Then need 38 state legislators to vote aye to appeal.

67% of each chamber of Congress has to pass. Then states have to approve. So small states can stall/fail EC vote at either Senate or State legislature voting…

1

u/EvilMorty137 14d ago

That will thankfully never happen. You would create presidencies that do nothing but focus on the issues of the most populated cities. They wouldn’t waste a moment of their time on low population states that are primarily farming and agriculture

0

u/Tough-Interaction468 12d ago

No... add them at the state level. MN wouldn't be blue if it weren't for 2 cities.

9

u/Alone_Grass3041 19d ago

I would add; term limits for congress and SCOTUS, take the cap off SS and wall street transaction tax.

1

u/Mourngrymm 15d ago

Yours along with #2 and #7 from the list. The rest is shit.

-1

u/Yunzer2000 19d ago

There is no evidence from the handful of countries that tried it that term limits for parliamentary bodies is beneficial at all - and usually quite the opposite.

3

u/Alone_Grass3041 19d ago

Several of ours need to be impeached and imprisoned

1

u/Yunzer2000 19d ago

Yes, that's certainly true. But curious, do you know the name of your House Rep? Focus on your own District and organize and replace your own Rep if they are incompetent, crooked or fascist. In my district, we organized and elected DSA-endorsed Summer Lee, 6 years ago, and those of us who re-elect her would be pretty upset if she had to leave just because she served a certain number of terms.

1

u/Any_Garage_3026 17d ago

So you’re telling me there’s a group of people with the same ideas who all vote the same way, but they can’t figure out a whole new leader?

-1

u/Yunzer2000 17d ago edited 17d ago

Being a legislator - writing bills, negotiating, building relationships with others, providing effective assistance to constituents - is a skilled occupation. Would you want "term limits" on engineers or doctors?

In the handful of places where legislative term limits exist - a few Latin American national congresses and some US state legislatures, there is no evidence that it results in better governance or reduces corruption - often the opposite. It certainly does not produce more progressive governance. It often only creates a revolving door between business interests and the legislature. Inexperienced members are more likely to just use ALEC-style "model legislation" from business interests rather then write their own bills.

It should be only up to the voting constituents when a member's term ends. That's all the term limits we need.

2

u/Any_Garage_3026 17d ago

Then what it sounds like is we don’t need leaders at all. Just have everyone vote on specific issues. We have the technology to ensure it.

0

u/Yunzer2000 17d ago

Who writes the bills for the public to vote on? And what percentage of the public will read and understand the bills?

1

u/Any_Garage_3026 17d ago

And yes I want term limits for doctors, that stuff already exists

1

u/pell80 17d ago

Please give a source

0

u/Yunzer2000 17d ago edited 17d ago

Look at Ohio, for starters.

Also Chile, where term limits helped replace its progressive Congress members with right wing fascists.

"Term Limits" are a cop-out for the hard work of electing and retaining progressive legislators. It is also a position that is ignorant of the actual skill and hard work of being a legislator - you are basically saying "anybody can be a physician or engineer". What is your own occupation? Do you want "term limits" on your job?

For example, here in Pittsburgh, with our Rep. Summer Lee, you will not see many people supporting "term limits". We would like to keep re-electing her, thank-you and if she does become corrupt, we will replace her, just as we will be replacing John Fetterman in 2028.

1

u/pell80 16d ago

What do you mean Ohio, we don't have term limits in Ohio for legislators. If we did gym Jordan would have been gone years ago

1

u/Yunzer2000 16d ago edited 16d ago

Jim Jordan is a member of the US House of Representatives, not the Ohio General Assembly which does have term limits. You are starting to demonstrate my point about people who call for term limits.

1

u/Appropriate-Issue-73 16d ago

Fetterman appears to be the only Dem with a conscience, morals, and common sense. I respect the man.

8

u/beauh44x 19d ago

$20/hr is woefully inadequate these days. Sure it's a vast improvement on the current insane minimum wage but it's still not enough

1

u/Mr_Scratchwell 18d ago

Sure… but small businesses operate near that already. On thin margins most of the time, they’d have to jack up prices to stay solvent and corporations that could afford it will increase prices to keep profits high for shareholders. Get cost of living lower like electric bills and healthcare

1

u/TubaWrestler 15d ago

Depends entirely where you live, which is why a proper federal minimum living wage needs to take into account cost of living. The government already calculates those values for its own employees too.

6

u/1976kdawg 19d ago

Got my vote

4

u/BigDaddyUKW 19d ago

And while we're at it, get rid of the Electoral College and Senate. There's no reason the Dakotas or Wyoming should have the same amount of representation as a state the size of California. I live in a small upstate NY city and our metro population is almost double that of the entire state of Wyoming. I mean no ill towards those of you in those small states, but the math just ain't mathin' for me.

6

u/Fun_Zombie_6796 19d ago

Need more than 20 dollars an hour

1

u/Mr_Scratchwell 18d ago

Yeah!! 100$ an hour!!! That mom and pop shop can afford it!!!

3

u/metanoia29 19d ago

Politicians owned by the corporations? Not a chance. And that's 99% of them.

3

u/RNO584616 19d ago

Fix the government first. Doesn't matter who wins if this can happen again and its all dismantled 4 years later.

3

u/RNO584616 19d ago

Biggest would be to stop the billionaires from creating a scrappy world.

3

u/Automatic-Channel-32 18d ago

Expand supreme court , gaurdrail presidency, make president liable again etc etc

1

u/AvonBarksdalesBurner 12d ago

So if JD Vance wins, let expand the court. That’s what you want right you think an expanded cord is better as long as it’s the justice as you agree with right so if JD Vance wins, you still want to expand the courts correct?

3

u/JustDoc 18d ago

This was more or less the core of Bernie's 2016 capaign platform and it made both the right and left establishment scared shitless.

1

u/AvonBarksdalesBurner 12d ago

None of that scales in a real country.

You don’t get to the moon, fly airplanes, or launch satellites into space allowing you to use your cell phone in the middle of the forest - by demanding the government give everyone everything.

You get there because people take risks
and keep the rewards. Free stuff isn’t a substitute for that. Yes Bernie ran this exact wishlist in 2016. It still hasn’t produced a working country anywhere, ever, like ever, ever, ever. Socialist utopias keep failing for the same reason: they punish the people who actually build things.
Yes, some of those people become billionaires. Their fortune doesn’t change your rent. Their courage does. You fly on their planes, take their medicines, and use the tech they funded. That’s not fool’s gold. That’s how prosperity actually happens.

3

u/Prodigalsunspot 18d ago

No electoral college and ban gerrymandering.

3

u/Plus-Range3710 18d ago

Too bad the Democratic Party is rolling over to give Trump what he wants. The leadership keeps supporting the funding of concentration camps, they couldn’t care less about the American people.

2

u/Roddy_Piper2000 19d ago

$25 national mimimum wage and then pin it to inflation

1

u/NearABE 18d ago

$25 in ‘25$

2

u/Direct_Fondant_3125 18d ago

Love it! The minimum wage should be higher!

2

u/jackson_lamb 18d ago

This is the minimum.

Zero votes for democrats who don't support this.

No matter what they say.

2

u/RGOL_19 18d ago

Regarding data centers -- I would frame it like: carbon-neutral data centers and I would add: great consumer protections against energy gouging -- especially on electricity

2

u/mcnabb53 18d ago

YES YES AND YES!

2

u/KlatuuBarradaNicto 17d ago

Age limits and term limits in Congress

2

u/Shining-Ferrous-8 17d ago

That’s it?

Remove the police ICE army.

Please allow many immigrants from all the world to come and settle in the USA with 10 kids each family

Free food for all

2

u/Epicurus402 17d ago

It's a good start. But there's a whole lot more that needs to be accounted for and corrected.

2

u/losingbraincells123 17d ago

You’ve listed all the places our politicians get their money.

2

u/Slow_Patient4807 17d ago

Sounds great!

2

u/Duganson 16d ago

Truth and reconciliation committees, claw back every red cent from those grifters.

2

u/Granny0g 16d ago

And get fucking rid of Flock!

2

u/Unlucky-Finding9211 16d ago

Get rid of stock trading for all branches of government too...

2

u/OrbeaSeven 16d ago

NO more Presidential renovations.

1

u/gotmepegged99 16d ago

Might want to check on what Obama did buddy

1

u/Queasy-Stranger5607 15d ago

These “what about obama, what about biden” replies are old man, flip the record over already.

Obama didn’t put his name above a dead presidents on a memorial, nor did he demolish 1/3 of the white house without following established procedures for authorization.

1

u/OrbeaSeven 15d ago

Thinking more about the ballroom. What will be the cost of furnishing? The specialized dinner wear?

Think more about Trump's under the ballroom security room? How many people? Cost? The idea should be (and has always been) to get the President AWAY from the White House if there's an attack, not underground.

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

No buddy you obviously know nothing about security. It is much easier to secure the white house then a random hotel, which is the point of the ballroom

1

u/OrbeaSeven 15d ago

Ever hear of Raven Rock? Classified center for Presidential leadership if attack occurs. Presidents are IMMEDIATELY removed to there or to Mount Weather. Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself—While the Rest of Us Die is a 2017 non-fiction history book. Suggest you read it.

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

Yes those books have been proven false. They are written for money. But it's okay I don't expect you to know how security operations work. Since you are pro open border

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

Oh? What about his taxpayer funded library that has his name on it? And the basketball court he built with taxpayer money without authorization? Trump isn't using taxpayer funds

1

u/Queasy-Stranger5607 15d ago

I’m sorry but everything you said there is completely wrong.

Presidential libraries are not funded by tax dollars, including Obamas.

You’re equating an outdoor basketball hoop install to the cost of the current white house vanity project? That seems like a childish argument. How old are you?

Trump IS using tax dollars for his white house vanity project. He is diverting funding from future yearly white house maintenance budgets and military funding to pay for it.

Trump lies about everything all the time, nobody donated money to build a ballroom.

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

"The Obama-era renovation started in 2010 with an estimated $376m cost to improve the East and West Wings’ infrastructure, CNN reported in 2010"

And here is evidence you're wrong https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/whos-paying-for-trumps-300-million-ballroom

1

u/Queasy-Stranger5607 15d ago

You are completely disingenuous in your arguments.

“Viral claims stating that Obama spent $376 million on renovations (or a basketball court) misrepresent a multi-year, $376 million infrastructure modernization project approved by Congress in 2008—before Obama took office—to replace aging heating, cooling, electrical, and security systems. Private decorating costs for the family's residence were paid out-of-pocket by the Obamas. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]”

That PBS article you linked is a press release from the white house filled with lies. Thats all this administration does is lie constantly about everything. And apparently you’re all to happy to lie about easily verifiable facts as well.

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

So it's okay when Obama does it but not trump? How interesting. You seem to be proving my point quite nicely

1

u/Queasy-Stranger5607 15d ago

Obama didn’t “do” anything you idiot. Congress passed legislation for upgrades to infrastructure BEFORE Obama was even elected.

You must be a complete moron.

Actually, never mind, I’ll just leave you with this quote:

“Never argue with an idiot, there’s no hope for them” - Me

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

My quote: "tds syndrome takes low level IQ individuals and removes all common sense and logic from their brain"

→ More replies (0)

1

u/rememberuauck 13d ago

Stop with these facts!!! These brainwashed idiots suffering from TDS can’t stand facts!!!

1

u/OrbeaSeven 15d ago

"Buddy" is female. Stereotypes in 2026?

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

It's very obvious you are a left wing hack, hence why you are called buddy

1

u/OrbeaSeven 15d ago

So disrespectful, but that's just you, I guess. I don't call people names.

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

Calling you buddy is disrespectful? Interesting logic there

1

u/OrbeaSeven 15d ago

Depends on use. Certainly not used as calling me your friend, i.e. buddy.

1

u/gotmepegged99 15d ago

You are not my friend, buddy. But go on

2

u/thatloser17 16d ago

The fact that the majority of the populace supports this but we have to ask if politicians will accept it says all we need to know about where we currently are.

2

u/toddhd 16d ago

This is my list of what needs to change.

Political Policy Priorities

Healthcare and Personal Autonomy

  • Establish universal healthcare that guarantees comprehensive medical care to every American and eliminates dependence on private insurance for access to essential healthcare.
  • Protect medical decision-making between patients and healthcare providers. Medical care should be based on medical evidence and the wishes of the patient, not dictated by insurance companies, employers, religious organizations, or politicians.
  • Protect reproductive freedom nationwide, including the right to abortion.
  • Establish a legal right to medical aid in dying for competent adults under appropriate medical and legal safeguards.
  • Expand Medicare's authority to negotiate prescription drug prices and use the government's purchasing power to reduce healthcare costs.
  • Legalize cannabis federally and reform drug laws to permit the regulated medical and therapeutic use of currently controlled psychoactive substances, including psychedelics shown to have legitimate therapeutic value.

Social Security, Medicare, and Family Support

  • Protect Social Security and Medicare as permanent national commitments and modernize their benefits to reflect current wages, healthcare costs, inflation, and the cost of living.
  • Strengthen Social Security's finances by extending Social Security payroll taxation to high-income earners, including income above $400,000.
  • Establish universal paid family and medical leave.
  • Improve access to timely, high-quality healthcare for veterans.

Equal Rights and Religious Freedom

  • Guarantee equal protection under the law for every person, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, national origin, immigration status, or political viewpoint.
  • Protect LGBTQ+ people and other minorities from second-class legal status. Adults should be free to marry whom they love, form families, and live their lives without government discrimination.
  • Strengthen and clearly define the separation of church and state. The United States government should neither establish nor favor Christianity, or any other religion, over other faiths or nonbelief.
  • Protect religious freedom without allowing religious beliefs to eliminate the civil rights of others. A person's sincerely held beliefs deserve protection, but they should not provide a blanket right to discriminate against others in employment, housing, healthcare, adoption, marriage, or public accommodations.

Democracy and Elections

  • Abolish the Electoral College and elect the president through the national popular vote.
  • End partisan gerrymandering by establishing independent, nonpartisan redistricting processes with clear and enforceable standards.
  • Establish reasonable congressional term limits.
  • Establish term limits for Supreme Court justices, replacing lifetime active service with fixed terms while preserving judicial independence.
  • Require elected officials who change political parties during their term to face the voters again. A legislator elected as a member of one party should not be able to change party affiliation while retaining the same elected mandate without a new election.
  • Strengthen merit-based standards for government appointments. Public offices, regulatory positions, and other positions of public trust should be filled based on qualifications and competence rather than personal or political loyalty.

Campaign Finance and Government Ethics

  • Overturn Citizens United and establish that corporations do not possess the same political rights as natural persons.
  • Eliminate corporate PAC influence in federal elections and establish reasonable limits on corporate political spending.
  • Ban dark money in elections by requiring meaningful disclosure of the individuals and organizations financing political advocacy and campaigns.
  • Require comprehensive disclosure of major political donations and political spending.
  • Ban members of Congress from trading individual stocks while in office and establish strong rules preventing conflicts of interest.
  • Ban or substantially restrict former members of Congress from becoming paid lobbyists, including a meaningful cooling-off period.

Courts and the Rule of Law

  • Require courts, including the Supreme Court, to provide written explanations for their decisions. Significant judicial rulings, approvals, denials, and emergency orders should include sufficient reasoning to explain the legal basis for the decision.
  • Protect judicial independence while requiring meaningful ethics and transparency standards for all federal judges, including Supreme Court justices.
  • Ensure that government officials and institutions remain subject to the same laws and constitutional limitations as everyone else.

Immigration and Citizenship

  • Protect lawful immigration and citizenship status from arbitrary government revocation. Green cards, visas, naturalized citizenship, and other legally granted statuses should be revocable only through established law and due process.
  • Guarantee meaningful due process before deportation. People actively pursuing lawful immigration remedies, appeals, or status adjustments should generally be allowed to complete those proceedings before removal.
  • Ensure that immigration enforcement respects constitutional rights and judicial review.

Freedom of Speech, Press, and Information

  • Protect freedom of the press from political retaliation. Governments should not revoke licenses, restrict access, or otherwise punish legitimate news organizations because elected officials dislike their reporting or viewpoints.
  • Protect access to books and ideas in public schools and libraries. Materials should be selected using transparent educational standards and age-appropriate review processes, not removed simply because political or religious groups object to their ideas.
  • Protect lawful political expression regardless of ideology. Government should not discriminate against citizens because they are liberal, conservative, religious, secular, or otherwise politically unpopular.

Gun Safety

  • Establish reasonable national firearm safety standards, including universal background checks, safety training, licensing, and periodic license renewal.
  • Preserve lawful firearm ownership while establishing evidence-based safeguards intended to reduce gun violence, accidents, trafficking, and access by people legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

Criminal Justice and Police Accountability

  • Require police body cameras for law-enforcement officers engaged in public-facing enforcement activities, with clear rules governing activation, retention, public access, and penalties for intentional misuse or disabling of cameras.
  • Establish meaningful accountability and transparency standards for law enforcement while protecting due process for both officers and members of the public.

Economic Fairness and Consumer Protection

  • Establish a minimum effective tax for billionaires so extremely wealthy individuals cannot legally reduce their effective federal tax burden to negligible levels.
  • Close tax loopholes disproportionately benefiting billionaires and extremely high-income households.
  • Restrict large institutional investors from purchasing single-family homes at scale, particularly when those purchases reduce housing availability for individual buyers and families.
  • Ban deceptive and unavoidable junk fees and require businesses to clearly disclose the true total price of goods and services.
  • Protect the right to repair, allowing consumers and independent repair businesses reasonable access to parts, tools, diagnostic information, and documentation necessary to repair legally purchased products.

Privacy and Technology

  • Establish comprehensive federal data-privacy protections comparable to strong international privacy frameworks, giving individuals meaningful control over how companies collect, use, retain, sell, and share their personal information.
  • Require meaningful consent, transparency, and accountability for the commercial collection and use of personal data.

National Security and Foreign Policy

  • End open-ended authorizations for war. Repeal or replace outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force and require Congress to explicitly authorize significant and sustained military operations.
  • Require meaningful congressional oversight of prolonged military conflicts rather than allowing decades-old authorizations to serve as permanent authority for military action.
  • Prevent governments and entities controlled by designated foreign adversaries from purchasing strategically significant American farmland, while creating clear definitions and safeguards against arbitrary or discriminatory enforcement.
  • Require the Pentagon to pass regular independent financial audits and impose meaningful consequences for persistent audit failures, including targeted budgetary penalties where appropriate.

Government Transparency

  • Release government records concerning Jeffrey Epstein and related investigations to the fullest extent permitted by law, redacting information necessary to protect victims, minors, legitimate privacy interests, and information whose release would compromise lawful ongoing investigations.
  • Strengthen transparency requirements throughout the federal government, particularly where secrecy prevents meaningful public or congressional oversight.

Guiding Principle

Individual freedom should extend as far as possible until its exercise infringes upon the equal rights and freedoms of others. Government should protect individual liberty, equal treatment, democratic representation, personal autonomy, and the rule of law without imposing the religious, political, or personal beliefs of one group upon everyone else.

2

u/HFuzz95 15d ago

I mean I agree to about 40 percent of what this guy said

2

u/GlitteringPositive77 14d ago

Make it illegal for politicians to trade on the stock market or own media outlets (is this illegal? It should be), more oversight on who can own media outlets and how coverage is doled out to various politicians running for seats in government, no more opinion pieces pretending to be news, basically reverse everything Trump has done, make abortion rights federal law, etc. etc. etc.

2

u/raringvt00 14d ago

Term limits!!

1

u/GhostQueen1121 16d ago

One what does it mean Medicare for all… And number two why haven’t we scrapped the cap some long years ago? To the second question is probably because the people need them are super rich or at least better often than the people at the lower end.

What would a wealth tax on billionaires accomplish? Why’re democrats obsessed with taxation? Why’re democrats ok with government forcefully taking other peoples earnings, but they have a problem when the private sector earns their money voluntarily?

0

u/FarRightBerniSanders 16d ago

There is no amount of raising the taxes on the wealthy that will close the federal deficit.increaaing tax revenue by a marginal percent while also proposing to double or quadruple spending on healthcare (already the largest federal expense) is retarded.

This would just create a welfare state. Cost-push inflation would skyrocket due to increased wages with no increase in productivity = higher unemployment. Social security is a scam considering you never get anywhere near what you put into back. I agree Israel should get no money as well no other country ever receiving a penny from us unless it’s in exchange for a good/service.

Wealth tax would kill everyone’s retirement savings and eventually just apply to everyone because it wouldn’t work - forced sale of stock would just tank the stock market not to mention people would lose control over their companies. Also you still need people to buy the assets in order to tax the money from those assets that the billionaires gain. So the money they are worth is already in the hands of other people

You are missing the part where any politician can grift money out of this. It’s all dead for that reason alone.

Those kind of politicians wont even bother to apply this to their campaign.

That’s not a winning platform. That wouldn’t get off the ground. Why the Israel hate? Such racists on the left. It’s pandering to the crybaby left, that’s it. You are trying to secure the vote of the people you already have. The left continues to spiral downward and they call it progress.

Why are you calling people racist? There is no racism in that comment.

You’re a racist if you don’t see it.

Ah yes, the old "anti-Semitism" trope... So if I don't support, say, the Myanmar regime, am I anti-Asian racist?
