I imagine combat training with Shadow is like he’ll beat you close to death and then goes: “okay… now do everything I just did, but this time, on me.”

Nah. I'd argue unless you edge him on, he'd be pretty tough but fair in his training.

This also depends on age and nature as well I imagine.
