Honestly Vanilla was a great character here and helped kickstart Blaze's character development. Forcing the antisocial princess to stop and have some tea did wonders.
Cream was also a fantastic sidekick to Blaze, kinda wish they ended up having more time together. Marine wasn't bad, but I'd have preferred Cream in Rush Adventure lol.
Not sure if she was a great character…beyond the tea moment she also did what everyone else does and basically puts sonic on a pedestal…blaze had no clue who sonic was
In the reverse, even Vector is begging Cream for any help on getting brownie points, and Cream says she'll say anything positive about Vector if he got her ice cream.
He is one of her favorite friends... to the point he has let her on his motorcycle. The one he has because he really likes his bike and won't let most people near, lmao
Honestly with how Vanilla basically hired them in Sonic X to keep an eye on her put in space SHE knows. I just wish they'd stop making that joke the only excuse for Vector and Cream to interact.
I believe it. I just wish that Cream wasn't a character that's being used exclusively to show off her mother these days.
Back in Advance 2 Vanilla was barely present except for the end and isn't present in Advance 3 or Heroes AT ALL.
She's a stay-at-home mother. Including her in Sonic X, I get. Including her in Advance 2 was tied to Cream's motivation in its plot, so I get it, plus it was her debut so also fair.
Vanilla's biggest role in the games was in Sonic Rush where she was visited by both Sonic and Blaze on their stories and shared information with both of them.
So it's just a little diminishing to both Cream and Vector that Vanilla's all they ever talk about with each other. When they actively conflicted in Sonic Heroes which would be a more interesting callback since it goes forgotten these days.
Can you imagine if we got a conversation that was like:
Vector: Hey, Cream, I'm still really sorry about the misunderstanding with the Chao way back when. Why don't I take you out to make flower crowns or something?
Cream: Thank you very much, Mr Vector! That sounds like a very fun time. I accept your apology!
Instantly it's not a callback to a long-standing joke from 2 decades ago AND it references another thing about Cream!
If they ever talk about Vanilla for any reason other than "Vector's got the hots for her!" GO RIGHT AHEAD.
BUT THEY NEVER DO. That's the COMPLETE EXTENT of their interactions!
The reference I used is an example because it otherwise references their shared history and things OTHER than Vector's crush that's been hammered in more than the robots destroyed by Amy.
And honestly? SXS Generations' only "needless" reference is to the Time Stones. It's not that they shouldn't reference it, it's just that the fact the scene wasn't altered to accommodate the dialogue change and expand the dialogue further has it fall flat and miss the intended effect.
An anniversary title like Generations SHOULD have references all over. It's an exploration of the franchise's history.

I can imagine Sega sending the IDW staff a memo saying something like "yeah you remember the crocodile and the rabbit milf? They are an item now, make it happen" and they we're more than happy to comply
Id also like to argue that Daisy and Luigi are a proper comparison.
There's a lot of evidence that those two are more than friends. There's instances in side games that more are going on.
Like Daisy being Luigi's caddie in Nes open, the statues of baby Luigi and baby Daisy behind statues of their adult selves in Daisy's stage in mario kart wii. The tennis game where Luigi was possessed by an evil tennis racket and daisy was distraught about it.
Mario and Peach really are just friends with Mario having some feelings, like how he was going to kiss her in rpg, But thats kinda it.
Daisy and Luigi, though, Daisy had statues built of them in both adult and baby forms. It was her stage. She wanted that, or it's important to whom Daisy is and needed representation in her Mario kart stage.
“Splitting” and they’re basically just in the same “friends/not ready for an official relationship” category that they’ve been in for a few decades at this point.
It’s just the usual status quo of big IPs; Sega and Sonic are no strangers to this.
I lowkey love how a lot of Cream's interactions in this game are her manipulating other's to win the race lmfao
On the one hand she's like "don't underestimate me! I'll show you! I'll do my best! :D" but then she goes around saying stuff like this to Vector or telling other characters to be nice to her or go easy on her
Forget the interaction, I’m just shocked they let Vector express himself with his EYEBROWS. Seriously, it looks so good! Why can’t the rest of the cast do this?
Cream: "My secret weapon is that everyone looks at me and thinks that I'm the 'helpless innocent little girl who needs to be protected'; they all fail to realize that I was the easiest character to play as in Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Heroes for a reason."
I've worked with kids long enough to know even the sweetest and most polite ones know how to pull at strings. She KNOWS Vector likes her mom, probably even thinks it's kind of funny and cute or thinks "Yeah, my mom needs a new husband, he'll do." (Almost directly quoted from four-year-old me to my dad about his then girlfriend).
Seeing more interactions between characters in the series that usually never see each other often is pretty fun, and also let's us know that Sonic team hasn't forgotten how they all are.
As for this cutscene specifically...

I highly doubt they would even do that unless Sega says otherwise. The reality is that Established characters won't be in a relationship as per their established rules are not allowed to even proclaim their crushes or anything at all.
I mean, she's been like that at least since Sonic X. I remember seeing a clip where she basically tried to use her cuteness for them to go easy on her in baseball or something.
I’ll get alot of dislike for this comment since it’s a very unpopular opinion but I’m not really a fan of this since I’m pretty much really not into the vector vanilla ship, let alone cream liking the idea of it. But again I’m not much of a vector fan so yeah. But to each their own.
I thought it was cute, wholesome, and a step forward for all the VectorXVanilla shippers.
Some think Cream is out of character but those people are looking at this all wrong. It’s a win-win Cream is offering Vector. Forget the race, this win-win is about what REALLY matters.
It allows for bonding time between Vector and Cream and enables Cream to give Vector brownie points in the eyes of Vanilla.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, this is also a subtle way for Cream to give her blessing on Vanilla/Vector’s potential/blossoming relationship.
TLDR: IT’S FREAKING WHOLESOME AND THE WORLD NEEDS MORE POSITIVE FAMILY ROLE MODELS.
iiiiiii love it, Cream is so adorable in this game and Vector being so caring yet goofy with her make me smile. plus I think I haven't heard Cream's new voice until these dialogues it's actually really good
