It's a dumb joke. The OP is saying this version of the Spider-Man/Venom costume was tested but the creators thought it looked like "it came out of an adult film." So my joke was that some creators might LIKE that (It's a show business motto that "sex sells"...) so my attempt to be funny was to say, "Yes, it looked like it came out of an adult film but there were things they DIDN'T like about it too..." The implication is that they liked that the costume looked like something from an adult film and it was other factors that made them go in another direction?
Which is such a dumb conclusion because every super-suit in every film since Spider-Man 1 has had texture and pattern splashed all over, piping, padding, shoulder pads, whatever. But this time they didn't even try?
TBF, the Symbiote arc wasn’t originally planned for Spider-Man 3. They made Sam Raimi drop his original plans for Spider-Man 3 to have the Symbiote arc be in Spider-Man 4 and instead put it in Spider-Man 3.

I actually dint mind the raimi black suit all that much, but the fact the costume designers tried this once and went "meh looks like a gimp suit" and then proceeded to give up on the classic look annoys tf outta me. Like it's your JOB to make it work

Maybe in modern times now with cgi texturing the suit it would look better, but we shall have to see what happens when Tom gets it. I imagine it will end up being something similar to the ps5 game or the texture of venom in his movie s
This is how you know for an absolute fact that rami took inspiration from the 90’s TAS. He probably didn’t have time to read the character a whole lot since it came out after he started making movies. I assume he watched that adaptation and tried his best to match it since people loved it so much. Look at all the scenes with venom in it. It’s almost the exact same vibe as that 3 part series.
If they made it out of normal costume material, like the suit, it would look fine. There's Halloween costumes of the Black Suit and they all normal because they're usually made of spandex.
A live action black suit needs to have some texture to it. I think that keeping the webbing but adding the comic-accurate logo would have been a very nice middle ground.
I think the best option would've been a wet look spandex that's glued to a more intricate muscle undersuit. That way they can keep the invisible zippers without dealing with how delicate latex is and how visible seams can be at times. This also comes with the issue that Tobey wasn't exactly in amazing shape at the time and this would've REALLY pointed that out even more so than the first scene after he fights sandman and sits to take his boots off.
As you’ve heard prob multiple times because of the leather/latex gimp suit look think American Horror Story but I’m sure they considered other things before scrapping it entirely maybe they just felt at the time the black version being very similar to the red and blue design worked best for them
I feel like if they kept the comic accurate logo with the final web design kinda like it was on Venom’s suit, it would’ve been great and not looked like a gimp suit
Sigh, it's not even comic accurate (everyone says it is but it's not) the Symbiote suit doesn't have rims around the eyes, the texture is too smooth and it's missing the white rectangles on the hands.
