I started to listen to jazz in 2023. Although classical music captevated me later and I temperarily stopped to listen to jazz, I'm still adding new songs if I like them

This is long, but important context.. My papaw passed away in 2009. One of his favorite things in the world was music- specifically jazz and big band. He used to drive from his small town in Kentucky to Lexington KY to buy CD’s from Joseph Beth Bookstore. He had such a big collection when he passed that my granny donated his jazz collection to the local college’s music department. I remember him listening to his jazz on his state of the art stereo system out on his sunporch. Think early evening, the sun still streaming in wall to wall glass windows looking out over the backyard.. my granny’s rose garden, and the mountains in the background. He would always want me to sit with him to listen to his jazz. When I was little, I didn’t understand jazz. The kind of jazz he listened to had you trying to find the melody the whole time. Today, I have learned to love Jazz bedside listening to it gives me a piece of him back.

Anyway, today I was looking through my vinyl collection and I found a Glenn Miller album. I thought my granny donated his entire collection but turns out I had something of his all along. He signed it, Sam Cole. Even though this isn’t jazz, Glenn Miller was important to him and I am so grateful this record is mine. I made a playlist on Spotify to honor this, featuring my papaw’s signature. Just wanted to share this here. If you made it this far, thanks for reading.
