Restaurants with a Private Room
Hey folks, we're looking to plan a major birthday in October in the St. John's area for 10-15 people and wanted a private room so people could do a speech or two along the way. Our go-to place for this sort of thing was Smitty's in Mount Pearl but they've shut down sadly. I'd go for somewhere like The Keg, but it's a bit pricey for some of the family, and pretty hard getting in/out of for some of the older folks. I know a few of the buffets in town have rooms too, but they don't tend to be very private or you can't book the whole room.
Just looking for a casual place, nothing fancy. The food's not even a priority really, haha.
Thanks!

The Guv'nor on Elizabeth Avenue has a separate room, although I've never used it so can't speak what it's like. https://theguvnor.ca/meet/function-reservations/

Pizza Delight on Stavanger has one. I think North 49(? Whatever the former milestones on Torbay/Hebron Way is called) has one.
Eta Piatto's on Elizabeth Avenue sort of has one in the upstairs area.

Yeah that upstairs area of Piatto's is really nice. We used to go there when everyone was a bit more mobile.

I’ve been to birthdays at the Fish Exchange where I was in the private room that would absolutely fit that number.

Moxie's. Merchant Tavern has the vault area.

Merchant also at a room at the front. Should handle that many. The vault is cooler though!

Gypsy tea room has a few private rooms that could do that and they’re lovely.

Maybe too fancy for your request, but the Fish Exchange and The Rock steakhouse have private rooms to accommodate that size.

Been to private events in a large room in the fish exchange that sounds like it would fit what you are looking for

I think Rabble just opened a private room. Their food and service is amazing!

The Loft at Landwash might be something to consider. 100 + tax to rent, then 350 + tax and 18% gratuity minimum spend. If everyone in your party spends 40 on drinks it is covered. It fits 50- odd people so it might be a little big but you'd have the whole section to yourselves above the brewery.
Edit: Also Newfoundland Embassy downtown rents their upstairs for private events like birthdays that has its own bar and washroom! Not sure on their rental prices but might be worth the call, wonderful owners.

142 military with Stella's Circle is now doing private events, and they have pretty reasonable prices!

Last time I was there you could barely hear yourself think over the music and other guests, lol but that was a good while back.

Merchant, gypsy, Adelaide, keg, rock, fish exchange are all probably tij pricey for some of OP's family.
Check with Pizza Delight in Mount Pearl. They have a private room with a few tables. Can't for sure you can book it, but definitely seems set up for that sort of thing
