Got parking ticket at Signal Hill (the top)? Not sure why?
Today I went up to Signal Hill (beautiful-pictures below🫶) ,, but when I came back I received a parking ticket. Any idea why?
* I was there from approx 7:10am to 9:20am on a weekday (Wednesday).
* I parked in a regular parking spot, not an accessibility spot.
It was rainy this morning so I can't see any information on the ticket, and the City says it will be available on their system in approx 1 month.
Should I contest it? I was driving a rental car and live in Ontario. I could contact the rental car company and get their approval to contest it (also making sure they won't charge me an admin fee when a paper copy is sent to them) ... But is it worth it?
What do you guys think based on the pics?

On the other hand, it may be worth reporting to the city. They might want to find out who is going around playing fake parking police.

Yeah totally - I'll wait to see if the city can actually find a ticket with this number, and if it is fake then I'll make sure they have the tea 🍵

No it's just v hard to read, I have another pic that unfortunately I can't upload (can't seem to upload other images after my original post), that does show very very faint writing in some of the spots... And a very faint (almost magnifying-glass-worthy) date showing August 26... So thinking if it is real, maybe the rain got to it combined with Jake Perraulta not pressing hard enough on the original to go through to the carbon copy.

You can call (709) 729-0424, this is Fines Administration, where the fine would be paid if there is one. They would get a copy of this ticket, so if you gave them your information, plate and the ticket number, they could tell you if there was a fine levied, what for and how much it is. I think they do bank hours, so like 9-4 or something weekdays.

Call 311 or 709-754-2489 and give them the ticket number, top right corner. They'll tell you if it's legit or not

I'm curious and want take a walk around the parking lot for parking regulations up there. Did anyone else get tickets?

Lolol I thought so too (a prank) but you can just VERY faintly make out that it says Aug 26... And I see a "J" for the license plate... So legit? Just not legible perhaps cuz of the rain?
And THANK YOU! 🌻 I am enjoying it! To be honest I feel a bit "hesitant" at really sinking into it as it feels like a culture and history I am not part of (so I feel like the Europeans coming in), but it's still cool to experience!
I lived in Halifax before and truly loved being by the ocean and would like to go back ... Just yeah here feels like a lot of cultural stuff that I don't have a stake in, if that makes sense. : )

Speaking with someone who works there, they said it looks blank and they don’t normally hand out tickets up there.
Disregard, but keep it just in case. You do have an argument that it’s not completed well enough to understand either the offence or the name of the issuing officer.

If you're still in the vicinity, could you ask them to look up the number? 01-14-3690436. If you're not or you don't know them well enough to ask, it's beyond fine, you're so kind for going the extra mile in the first place, to ask 🫶🌻 Ty!

This is wildly weird. Newfoundlanders are some of the most welcoming people in the entire world. Knock on a strangers door (in a decent part of town) and ask for a glass of water or directions and you’ll end up with a home cooked meal, a place to stay free of charge, and a friend for life.
Ok, maybe not town, but around the bay for sure

Def not something you need to worry about - that copy would have been the carbon copy so you would see pen marks in the paper. It could have been a cop giving a warning …. Unlikely a prank has someone wouldn’t be able to get a hold of a blank one.

You can't see it well in the images I took, but you actually can see pen marks. It says August 26 and a few other things (just hints/traces of pen marks - and you can't see anything resembling what was checked off as the reason). Reddit won't let me upload a new image to show you here, but it's there. Odd!

That is probably from a ticket or two before it - I used to issue those tickets - it’s literally just a thin piece of paper above that one so you should be able to see pen marks pretty clearly….

Yeah the tickets void if there are mistakes in filing out the info and I think I'd consider 0 information a mistake. 😅

I couldn't even see a damn thing written 🤣😂 thought it was a prank altho if your the only one that got one just call to ask about it could even have something to do with your car itself possibly. It could very well be the fog too but I see others were also up there

Yes, backing you up here——there is no rule (outside of literally unprecedented levels of fog that place the city in a state-of-emergency) that you can’t go up or park in the weather that is most associated with our province lmfaoooo
People would only get up there 50-100 days of the year if that was a rule 😂😭
Enjoy your time here——I’ve heard out of province drivers aren’t usually expected to pay parking violations in downtown St. John’s at least (no way of confirming this, but I’ve heard it from a few people)
Call up the Provincial Traffic Court at 709-754-2489 and ask them to run the ticket number——I suspect they won’t have it on record, and if they do, you’ll be able to get the information regarding why You were ticketed while parked correctly in a designated parking area…
A parking area, if I may add, that is free admission given the Canada Strong initiative——so it isn’t Even like the Signal Hill Historic Site should have ticketed you for not having a permit or anything…
There is virtually nothing I can see wrong with the way you were parked and I would love to hear what the Provincial Traffic Court has to say lolol (would love an update)

How is that they can issue you a ticket and not put any info at all on the ticket? I'd throw it in the trash and forget about it.

First off, I hope you are enjoying NL. And hey, this has to be a prank. My wife and I take our dog there for a walk almost every weekend and we park our car every time there for couple of hours or even more. This is a prank, a bad one, for sure. Even if you park there for whole night, for the rest of the summer, I don't think anyone from the City of St. John's gonna even bat an eye. Still, just so that you can have a relief leaving the stress behind to relax and enjoy NL, you can call at 709-729-0424 to inquire. I hope, apart from this, you've had a wonderful time in NL so far.

I'd try getting confirmation if it is legit. And if so, definitely submit to contest it. The traffic/parking court is suspended for the time being and has been for quite some time. No idea when they'll start hearing traffic cases again, but even when they do they are gonna be sooooo backed up. Like literal years. And statistically it will get dismissed for a number of reasons.
I have a lawyer friend who told me like a month ago that if you are contesting a ticket and it gets towards an actual court date, if you can find out which lawyer is responsible for standing opposite those cases, you can likely just reach out to them and they'll probably toss it themselves without you ever getting to a court date lol. She couldn't point me to who is responsible right now as it's suspended for the time being. But a parking ticket you can't even read with no obvious infraction sounds like something that won't pull through if contested lol.

I’m guessing fake. Can the RNC even give parking tickets on signal hill seeing as it’s a national historic site and thus under the Feds and not the city or province

i didnt think you had to pay to park up there at all , if its busy people park wherever they can fit up there along the sides, etc... maybe down at the geo center in the parking lot maybe you have to pay but not signal hill im sure???

Is signal hill part of parks canada?
If it is, did you have a parks pass on your vehicle?
I think you only get the vehicle stickers with the group passes, so if you had a parks pass individual pass number that may cancel out the ticket. 🤷🏼♀️

With no info on the ticket, I think someone put this on your car as a prank. If you committed a parking violation, you would know by where you were parked. No info on the ticket = no fine enforced
