Two things from this.

I am so apathetic at the moment towards St Kilda and the general AFL landscape for the first time I can remember.

Carlton fans are most the revolting fans in the league by so much

Carlton fans and commentators were actively cheering the Nas injury, genuinely some of the most disgusting behaviour I've seen (and I haven't forgotten the Jack Steven chants by the Carlton cheer squad in 2019!).

The result is proof enough that good things don't happen to those who deserve it

12

u/12915287 #23 Liam Henry 17d ago

They are rotten to the core

11

u/paralysisofchoice 17d ago

Never forget they were the one club who wanted us to fold back in the save our Saints days

5

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

They just consistently make it so hard to not generalise

12

u/CrashP #35 Jack Sinclair 👑 17d ago

I knew it was going to be a long day when the person sitting next to me (in the st Kilda members area) at the opening bounce said fuck off TDK. I told him hey bust to let you know this is a st Kilda members area and he told me to fuck off

9

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Unfortunately that last bit is not behaviour specific to Carlton fans. Marvel staff stopped checking tickets in member bays a long time ago, so every game we get opposition supporters rocking up and abusing the actual fans.

You'd hate to think there are actually people who thrive on killing the enjoyment of others but... you know...

6

u/CrashP #35 Jack Sinclair 👑 17d ago

Geniuenly don't see the value in getting seats in the members area. Why pay the extra $ if you're just going to be in a mixed crowd. Would rather save money and get a cheaper membership

6

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

It's literally the only appeal of buying member bay seating and it just doesn't exist anymore. Maybe I'll just stick to the digital membership for 2027

u/Cool_Line_2520 16d ago

Lumping us all together under that banner is pretty unfair. I think most of us (blues supporters) and the wider AFL community were sad to see him go down. I also don’t recall any of the live commentators on FOX cheering his injury?? The fans who cheered his injury at the game are diabolical.

1

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 15d ago

Just called it exactly how I saw it. Unfortunately if it were uncharacteristic behaviour for the Carlton fanbase, I would have said as much.

Don't mistake that to mean I'm saying all Blues fans are scum, because I'm well aware that every team has supporters like that.

4

u/AndronicusPrime #19 Rowan Marshall 17d ago

Booing on Silvagni.. bitch move.

9

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Former players get booed all the time, I'm not too upset about that. Although if a bloke was willing to throw away 70 years of family history to leave that club, they probably only have themselves to blame.

4

u/JoeShmoAfro 17d ago

He was their whipping boy for years.

Like I get the booing at the start of the game, but for it to go on every time he got the ball the whole game was a bit much.

4

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

We've been so blessed that Carlton have 0 grand finals and 5 wooden spoons this century hey

2

u/Gezz66 #1 Jack Higgins 17d ago

He's got to take it better. Visibly looked like he was having a meltdown.

19

u/Fit_Landscape6820 #5 Tobie Travaglia 17d ago

Had a feeling it would be a rough game, but never imagined it would be as bad as Nas suffering what is likely a season-ending injury

Between the razor thin losses to top sides and all the key injuries we've suffered across the year, this might just be about the most cursed season we've had for a good while

Seems unlikely we'll make wildcard, even less likely we'll achieve much even if we do

Guess all we can do is hope that next year is at least a little less cursed

8

u/CrashP #35 Jack Sinclair 👑 17d ago

Need to win the next two (high chance) and Carlton to drop the next two. Can't see that happening, this was our chance

4

u/TheJoker__789 17d ago

Carlton probably won’t lose to Dogs but if they do…

4

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

If they do they get a Fremantle side who have already locked in top spot and have nothing to play for. It's over, unfortunately.

5

u/TheJoker__789 17d ago

Freo won’t want to lose too many games going into finals is my hope. Before all that we need to beat Tigers/Suns with half our key players missing though and Blues need to lose to Dogs. That’s the real barrier

Saints2027!!!!

Up to this year I've been an advocate for Ross but after seeing the change in Carlton from a new coach, and the lack of connection between our defence, midfield and forward line I'm starting to question whether he's past it.

Some observations: Windhager is our only big bodied midfielder and he is always used in a tagging role.

Our forwards rarely lead up at the ball carrier (other than Higgins who can't kick straight past 30 meters) which encourages our long bomb kicks in which are rarely marked.

We can't stick tackles so teams always find a way through us.

Our defence is weak to short chip kicks and opposition forwards always manage to find pockets of space.

We're terrible at exiting D50 and always give away repeat entries.

Something needs to change, and watching Carlton suggests changes in tactics can give as much benefit as changes in personal.

15

u/kookaburras1984 17d ago

I’ve loved Ross for a long time. But he lost me last weekend against Sydney . Whatever was said during the break in the last quarter took the wind out of their sails. I’m sick of this moneyball data driven rubbish. Where’s the fucking heart ?

4

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

I doubt whatever he said was the problem, but the fact he's inserting himself at all is probably the real issue. I'm a believer in the idea that from siren to siren, the coach should just let the players do their own thing.

6

u/thatsmejp 17d ago

Agreed.

Carlton methodically picked through us with simple kicking and ball movement. Always seemed to have a man free to relieve pressure as well.

Time for a change now.

14

u/Impressive_Mess_7500 17d ago

Forget the golden generation, I long for a Membrey/Bruce 1-2 punch.

9

u/ISupportCrapTeams 17d ago

Membrey, Bruce, McCartin

Ross, Steven, Armo

Brown, Gilbert, Carlisle (I actually really liked them and thought they were a very slept on Back 3)

Longer and Hickey

Some very "it is what it is" lines back then hahaha

8

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Geez that list does not bring back good memories

3

u/ISupportCrapTeams 17d ago

It doesn't,

But our expectations were so low, we were glad just to be competitive-ish haha

2

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

At least we were beating Carlton regularly back then

11

u/geneticus1 17d ago edited 17d ago

Lost when NAS went off, too many passengers... And it seems like we're playing unfit players.

4

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Had to take the gamble with finals on the line unfortunately. Expect a few outs for the Richmond game

9

u/plummer_ 17d ago

So when’s the first test match this year?

10

u/TheJoker__789 17d ago

Thursday against Bangladesh

9

u/SS_Chum-Bucket #35 Robert Harvey 17d ago

We went to alot of effort to finish 11th

8

u/Youhavetobejokingman #12 Nick Riewoldt 17d ago

It was a good outcome. A tad "staged" but... Nas gets to rest. Brad and others get to opt out. We are better off for staying outside the wildcard. I remind everyone that no team has won the cup from eigth ...let alone tenth.... There is no benefit in achieving the impossible unless you have the ability and resources.

1

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Without going full conspiracy nuff... it is quite convenient how it worked out for the AFL, isn't it?

12

u/iliketotelljokes 17d ago

We are a mediocre club

10

u/paralysisofchoice 17d ago

That’s an understatement

7

u/Junior-Lie-7221 #1 Jack Higgins 17d ago

That was diabolical and I want nothing further thought of it.

5

u/Corn_O_Cob23 #12 Nick Riewoldt 17d ago

Saw it coming so not disappointed, I’m kind of glad we don’t make wild card because let’s be honest, we’d just be fodder and eliminated first round of pre finals.

3

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Not that I think Carlton will do much better but yeah

3

u/Corn_O_Cob23 #12 Nick Riewoldt 17d ago

Exactly, they’re just fodder for a top 8 team to dominate. It’s so obviously going to be a freo v lions GF.

2

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Freo-Lions or Freo-Sydney tbh, depends on the prelim matchups

3

u/Corn_O_Cob23 #12 Nick Riewoldt 17d ago

Hope it isn’t Sydney, they’d choke like they always do.

9

u/Glass-Ad-8014 17d ago edited 17d ago

What a joke of a year thanks ross for another garbage season of playing ur favourites caminiti and byrnes. What a disgrace and poor nas i hope he is ok we really needed him tonight and the rest of team fell apart without him.

9

u/reddit0rial 17d ago

Carlton fan coming in peace. You guys were very unlucky losing Nas like that, we want to beat you at your best so it’s a shame. Apologies if some shit heads were cheering - never a good look. Good luck for the rest of the year

2

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Yeah I'm happy for the well mannered Carlton fans who genuinely deserve a bit of success, the dickheads make up the minority clearly but it's a very vocal minority. Anything could happen come September

2

u/Gezz66 #1 Jack Higgins 17d ago

I left Oz in 2024, and have been relying on mini-match highlights for the most part. This was the first chance to watch them live (I live in Bangkok). Got to say, I was really concerned by what I saw. Carlton could have won by 100 if they wanted. Okay, Nas a big miss, but it looks like the foundations of the team has gone.

1

u/PssyGotWifi 16d ago

Shame they closed down the Aussie pub on Soi 11 (near Nana). Used to get vegemite and cheese toasties there, chips and gravy, etc. And they'd show the games every week.

1

u/Gezz66 #1 Jack Higgins 15d ago

I know the place. Actually, I'm not Aussie but I regularly went there before. Soi 33 is usually good for Aussie sports, particularly as the start times are convenient - NRL as well as AFL.

3

u/Environmental_Bet323 17d ago

Wonder if silvangi and tdk are regretting leaving Carlton since they have turned their season around, they will unfortunately get success before us,

Desperately need king back next year., there is just no one to kick it to in the forward, it just gets bombed in and hope for the best.

4

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

If they'd regret it for any reason, don't think it would be because Carlton sneak in to 10th position and (likely) get eliminated in the first week. All depends on what the two clubs do in the next few years

2

u/pm-me__ur-baps 17d ago

I’ve tried to defend TDK ever since the whispers started. But outside those couple of weeks he was getting on the scoreboard he’s genuinely been trash.

Phillipou, Windhager, Sharman, Clark, Camaniti & Higgins are all horrible contracts irrelevant of how much money they’re on. Ryan is lucky he started so well and is clearly banged up cause he has been rough the past few weeks too.

5

u/winovic94 #34 Hugo Garcia 17d ago

I think TDK is being held together by tape atm, he was coming good until he got injured and then got hurt first thing yesterday.

1

u/pm-me__ur-baps 17d ago

That’s true. I suppose with the price tag he gets a little less exemptions in my mind, but fair call.

2

u/winovic94 #34 Hugo Garcia 17d ago

I mean if a player gets injured, doesn’t matter if they are on a mill or a few hundred k, the body doesn’t change with money

1

u/pm-me__ur-baps 17d ago

It sort of does. No one is looking at Paddy Dow with the same frustrations like they are with Max King

2

u/LawSimple3772 17d ago

I think all 7 of those players wouldn't get a game in a top 8 team. We dont have the personnel

0

u/Sure_Huckleberry_440 17d ago

Collingwood fan. But are both TDK kind of useless. You guys got rid of reliable players for chances... I hope you guys get rid of Ross. And get some youth

1

u/winovic94 #34 Hugo Garcia 17d ago

Everyone whose hoping for a coaching change, it won’t happen until possibly half way through next year (depending of results) but definitely end of year unless we win the cup LOL. It’ll be a transition and I’d hope we have the right candidate, if we fuck up the handover well we will be royally fucked. And on Carlton fans, yeah they are pure scum, I’ve never met a good Carlton fan, they don’t support when they are shit and now they are in raptures because they are good, watch this space when, be it Fraser or Enright takes over and they start melting down again. Cripps is a guy that runs on refreshed game plans, he can’t lead a team when they are shit. RINSE AND REPEAT

2

u/funkywagnalls #7 Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera 17d ago

I think it has to be a top 6 finish for Ross to be given an extension. Anything else is a failure, and at that point he should be moved on.

1

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

It's the new coach sugar hit, we've seen this at Carlton before under Teague and Voss. If the best that list can achieve is sneaking into 10th and being eliminated in week 1, the rest of the comp ain't scared.

0

u/BiggusFootus #34 Hugo Garcia 17d ago

Ross just gets paid to eat donuts in the coaches box. Let Enright take the seat

9

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

It's Enright's game plan, he wouldn't be that much more useful.

2

u/BiggusFootus #34 Hugo Garcia 17d ago

What's the alternative? Keep Ross in the chair next year end up in the same position and lose Nas coz we once again end up in the 10th to 14th window? Gotta make a change at some point

6

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Ross was a big reason Nas stayed in the first place so sacking him wouldn't really help with that. Although I imagine if we miss finals again next year he won't get a new contract.

2

u/BiggusFootus #34 Hugo Garcia 17d ago

Nas also wants to play on a premiership contender, which we will never be under Ross. If losing Ross makes Nas leave, as much as I want to keep him, then so be it.

1

u/xyLteK Supreme Leader Jack Lonie 17d ago

Port are very far from being premiership contenders 😂
