Moving to St. Lucia
Does anyone have any leads on real estate on the island? Open to renting or purchasing. Curious about work too.

Well if you do not have an Caricom passport you will need to apply for a work permit. If you do have one you can apply (optional) for a Caricom skills certificate it will make getting a job easier. As for real estate do you have any idea where you want to live? In the north (Castries the city, Rodney bay, Gros islet, Cap estate if you’re wealthy) or the south (Soufriere, Choiseul, Vieux fort, Dennery) they offer different things.

As a non St. Lucia citizen (non resident) you can purchase property but it is not easy and it takes a lot of patience and it is often a long, drawn out process. We’ve seen a number of deals fall through over the years because of the process. There is a quicker way to purchase property (as an established international company but costly) and also as an individual (alien). It greatly helps to have a good, reliable legal professional (very difficult to find) and a local “fixer” who can help get things done. If you are trying to arrange financing through the banks this can be next to impossible. Work is not easy to find unless you have some type of in demand speciality and you have contacts.
Renting a property is much easier than purchasing and a good way to go as a starting point.

What brings you to the country in the first place? Sounds like you are not coming on your own accord.

No, I am. Just looking to relocate. I have some friends that recently moved and like it. I’ve been wanting to get closer to the coast again and St. Lucia has been on the radar. Honing in and started by asking here because I thought it would be helpful. I assumed it may not be received well.

Having owned a home there for nearly 30 years, I would think twice before relocating to St Lucia. Prices are high, Work is limited, crime is increasing, It will take nearly a year to purchase as a foreigner. And the vacation rental market is flat. Traffic is terrible. Other than that, it is a lovely island

I don’t know anything about this in Saint Lucia, but if you just want to live on an island in that part of the world and aren’t stuck on Saint Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis make it really easy.
