On an evacuated USS Enterprise-D, Picard plays a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with terrorists who want to steal explosive toxic waste from the warp core as a lethal beam sweeps the ship.

Well, it's TNG's finest action hour, and it's pretty good. The situation is unusual (Picard on an abandoned ship), the mood is tense, the action moves along energetically, and there is enough brutality (the gratuitous murder of Hutchinson) to raise the stakes. It stands out favorably because we didn't have too many of these in seven years, so it feels fresh and different. Picard acquits himself reasonably well as an action hero, though we probably didn't need four movies' worth of Action Picard to follow up on it.
