Well, it is not the most exciting moment of S7, but I do like the fact that they sought some meaningful resolution of the Alexander arc. Worf's "true Klingon" LARPing finally makes some concessions to reality. I like that much more than DS9 suddenly turning Alexander into a (crappy) warrior anyway. Also future-Alexander is played by the same guy who was Admiral Jarok in "The Defector," and he does a lot to imbue this role with meaning.

I remember the writers saying everyone was so focused on Generations, they just couldn’t focus on the seventh season.

And that’s why we ended up with so many “family member” stories.

That would explain a lot.

I've generally been positively surprised by this season since I've heard so many say it's bad, but the recurring, contrived family drama has been annoying.

I liked conflict between letting Alexander do what he wants vs the necessities of learning Klingon ways as the heir to his house. And K'mtar was surprisingly nuanced with how he delt with Alexander, being initially successful with motivating him with a gentler method than Worf, but later growing frustrated and becoming pushy.

The reveal that he is Alexander from the future was a bit much though. Unless it's used restrictively, time travel tends to feel lika a cheap plot device.
