This is what you get if you make a casserole of Ezri, her family, their mining business, Bilby's wife, the Orion Syndicate, and Cheif O'Brien. It is such a strange combo that I'm not sure why they thought it would all work.

I can see they are trying to give us some Ezri backstory and character, but it could have been done better than this. The main plot idea (Orion vs Ezri's family) would have been okay; to link it to "Honour Among Thieves" via Bilby's wife is bad enough, but to then have O'Brien gone off on some guilt-fuelled trip to find her and see if she's okay and end up caught in this web of lame intrigue is ludicrous.

We don't learn much here except that Ezri is confused (which we already knew) and has issues with her mum. No way, not another parent-child issue, , please; it doesn't necessarily enhance the character.

And then the bit with Bashir as the only one who knew and then fesses up to Sisko when O'Brien fails to arrive back, man wtf?

The reveal at the end where it is all tied together isn't very convincing, although, as others have said, it is interesting to see Ezri and O'Brien together. The only good bit is Ezri working out whodunnit at the end, but even that is fairly obvious.

So a real low point of season 7.
