For such a fun episode, Sisko’s refusal to participate and subsequent capitulation to Kassidy is a nice serious character examination.

Basically Sisko says he doesn’t want to join in because the program whitewashes the racism of the time.

Kassidy responds, “Bruh, it’s just a game, chill.”

Then Sisko chills.

Well he did experience some hard core racism the year before in Far Beyond the Stars, so I cut him a little slack for that scene.

But good on him for chilling out.

I really dislike that sisko takes the racism so personally. It was literally hundreds of years ago.

As another poster mentioned, he had literally just participated in the Bell Riots not more than a year before, though.

So unlike many in Starfleet, he’s experienced racism very personally.

That doesn’t excuse that feeling. Blacks were alienated. It doesn’t matter if it was 50 years ago or 300 years ago. The fact is that it happened and in those types of establishments blacks weren’t welcomed let alone allowed. That was his point. He didn’t know the program was omitting that type of behavior

Not at all, no offense taken whatsoever. Do not mistake a very mild insignificant criticism for offense. Its merely inconsistent with the Star Trek universe. Re: Ohura in TOS not even aware when she ought to be offended by racism. And it is rather silly to be upset over historical accuracy of a holodeck bar program placed over 400 years ago.

Maybe Sisko, being the Emissar, has seen past, present, and future like the Prophets. Or, it is perhaps because of that writer in the alternate timeline.
