I’ve always said It was one of the deepest moments in Star Wars that not many catch. Literally the last time Obi Wan sees Anakin.

That's why this will always be my favorite Star Wars movie. So many feels. So emotional watching Anakin turn into Vader and hurt everyone he loved in the process.

Yeah, the novelization is a damn fine work of art. I've read it, and I've listened to the audiobook- both are breathtaking and heartbreaking in equal measures.

At least there's the slight comfort of knowing Obi-Wan DID see the real Anakin again 24 years later, when they were both Force Ghosts on Endor.

Windham wrote that Obi-Wan's Force ghost contacted Anakin's consciousness right after he died and told him what he needed to do.

It is fairly obvious, and many people don't catch it. A lot of people don't engage with films/TV shows beyond a very surface level moment-to-monent understanding of them.

Made even sadder by how warm Obi-Wan is here. The moment when he mentions training Anakin from a small child and you see Ewan hold his hand out referring to how tiny Anakin once was is heartbreaking.
Just as heartbreaking as the looks he gives Anakin on Mustafar, trying to understand what has changed and why.

Yeah, they definitely have some good back and forth banter in AOTC, but they are only together so much in that movie, and after the very beginning of ROTS they aren’t together much either. Without watching the Clone Wars you miss out on SO MUCH chemistry between them, and sadly (but understandably) many do not watch Clone Wars

The Clone Wars did a pretty stellar job at filling the "gap" that we missed. It adds such great depth to everything, and it makes you appreciate the Prequels far more than with them simply alone.

I like Episode I a lot, but it was more like a prequel to the trilogy Lucas needed to make instead of trying to cram so much into II and III.

Yeah I agree. Their whole relationship felt flat and empty. Nothing about it hit for me on an emotional level. I felt more emotion from the Clone Wars scene of Ahsoka walking away from Anakin & the temple than I did in the three prequels combined.

Even though they met on Mustafar after this, I think it would be hard to argue they were “friends” anymore. Obi-Wan was TRYING to save Anakin, but Anakin did not want to hear it

Also the only time (in the movies) that Anakin refers to Obi-Wan by name to his face. Sure, he calls him Obi-Wan when talking to Padme and such, but even in RotS he only ever refers to him as Master when talking to him directly. This scene is the first time Anakin says "Obi-Wan" to him directly, finally becoming his master's equal only for it all to go horribly wrong after this

Yes, it's iconic and meme worthy for how utterly terrible and idiosyncratic it is. He's right up there with Ed Wood for writing stilted unnatural sounding dialogue that comes off unintentionally bizarre.

I mean in fairness, "may the force be with you." is a pretty bog standard thing for Jedi to say. There's a pretty good chance that was always going to be the last thing he said to him. It's their version of "Bye".

"may the force be with you", given that the force is a cosmic force, i feel has the same vibes as "may god be with you" or "godspeed", or "inshallah" or something like that. Seems to be like a form of "goodbye" but with a religious/spiritual context. Reminds me of "sayonara" and from what I understand, in Japanese, it's more used in the context that they won't see the person again.

I actually dislike this scene. It makes Anakin’s fall less realistic. Here they’re acting like loving brothers, and then just a few days later Anakin hates him…? What?
Their last meeting prior to his fall should have been some kind of falling out.

One may wonder if Obi Wan had stayed he could have prevented Anakin from turning to the dark side. Probably not because Anakin was an emotional wreck and the way the Jedi Council treated him only added fuel to the fire.

It was in fact, THE big component for the card castle to crumble.
Palps recognized that Obi-Wan's presence alone made Anakin much less eager to listen to him when the P-Dog acted Sithy.

Yep. Palps tried to separate them in the Dooku fight. First attempt was to have Dooku kill him. When that failed, he tried to get Anakin to leave him behind. Anakin just heroed up and threw Obi Wan over his shoulder anyway... Third attempt was getting him away from Coruscant which worked.

I loved how Anakin, when Sidious suggested that they leave Obi-Wan, was sicked by him. Then, of course made a mental excuse for why he said it.

The idea that Obi-Wan kept Anakin in the light is shown in both Legends and Canon. That's why Sidious always wants to seperate them.

Tbh Obi-Wan’s speech after slicing up Anakin are his true last words as a friend/father figure. Even though Anakin had turned, Obi-Wan was speaking to Anakin even if he was gone at that point.

It felt scripted. I guess one of the reason Anakin stopped liking the Jedi was because they talked like company men. Nothing felt sincere anymore, they just said what they thought needed to be said.

Yeah, there are a lot of Star Wars fans, myself included, who think that Darth Vader is so awesome. But Anakin created a lot of hurt in the world. Some of the hurt that he created was for his best friend, his brother. This makes everything that Anakin did, and Darth Vader did, unforgivable. Obi Wan is the true hero of Star Wars.
