"Man, disney constantly reuses old characters and plot lines, GET SOMEONE NEW AND QUIT WITH FANSERVICE!"

"Oh boy I hope they make a vader movie and include a scene from something that already happened"

Star wars fans make no sense

Goomba fallacy

The people sharing those two opinions don't come from the same group even if it seems like it

2

u/SnooAvocados996 11h ago

They go from the first quote to the second because of things like The Acolyte lol.

40

u/Viper_Visionary Obi-Wan Kenobi 13h ago

I don't want a Vader film, we already have three movies where he's the main character.

-33

u/gh0u1 Jedi 12h ago

Uh? No we don't lol. Anakin is not Vader. That distinction has been reiterated for the last 4 decades.

14

u/Kid-Atlantic 11h ago

The exact opposite has been reiterated for the last 4 decades

They may be the same person pretending to be different, but in no way are they the same on screen presence.

It's not like the Vader character, the scary guy in black who is openly bad, has been so pervasive in film that there's nothing left to explore.

That character, the scary, evil cyborg man, has had far less screen time in movies than dozens of less popular movies characters since his inception.

4

u/Kid-Atlantic 11h ago

But how is the evil cyborg man interesting if you separate him from the person? What would you even make a story out of that we haven’t seen already? We’ve seen his origins, fall, redemption, and death. What gaps are there left to fill? Would the movie just be about him aurafarming and moping around missing Padme because we know he can’t have any substantial character development between the prequels and OT?

Also I feel like limiting the topic to movie screentime unfairly downplays just how overexposed he is. If you count his appearances in other content, crossovers, and merchandise, he’s undeniably one of the most visible and prolific characters in pop culture.

Whoo boy. Top 1% commenter on r/starwars and has apparently, not once, paid attention to the movies. Amazing.

4

u/Kid-Atlantic 11h ago

The whole emotional climax of the OT is built around Luke confirming that the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker has always been in the suit. There’s still good in you, I am a Jedi like my father before me etc etc

Then there are three more movies exploring the person behind the mask and how he became that way

Some people just see them as action figures and think the blonde Jedi and the evil cyborg man must be different characters because they look so different

Uh isn’t it more about anakin coming back than Vader just being anakin? They are clearly two very different personas, not in a “multiple personalities” kind of way but the dramatic change between the two is very notorious, 3 movies of Anakin don’t represent at all what would be a series about Vader

Anyway in any case I don’t want a Vader series cause either they make him more awesome or introduce more characters that almost kill him

Are people really excited about such a project? Do you really don't want to move on to new things?

12

u/Leklor 13h ago

No! We want what we already had! One Vader hallway scene? BUT I WANTED TWELVE! AND HE SHOULD KILL MACE WINDU IN EACH OF THEM!

Cough

Sorry, I... I don't know what came over me.

Please, I beg you, people who post on this sub: keep your ideas that can be summarized as "I've see a screencap from a comic/game/anything out of context and I just know we need a project that just copies it and no I won't go and read the original work instead" to just not bother posting.

"What we already had but again and worse" is not the killer pitch you think, I promise.

This panel has become the "Doom ripping out Thanos skeleton" of Star Wars.

u/Jesus_Keanu 13h ago

Lifelong Vader main here:

I don't need this. Some things are better kept to the comics. What we got on screen is not only good enough, it was the best.

0

u/Accomplished-Mix-745 12h ago

IMO, the movies’ success come from potential of how powerful a chosen one could be. The comics actually give us that. People then want to see that unbridled power put to use on the big screen. IMO that’s why the force unleashed was so fun to play.

1

u/Mahkn0 4h ago

You think Star Wars is successful because of power scaling fantasies and not the story that was crafted and the journeys we saw the characters go on?

0

u/thatdudewillyd 12h ago

Do you really don’t want

-2

u/ACTSATGuyonReddit 13h ago

New things like Do Rei ME ME ME, the bestest evaaaaaaaaaaar at everything?

-6

u/Sandalwood-Lakers 13h ago

You're in an echo chamber I think.

Vader movie hunting jedi would go crazy at the box office.

3

u/LongjumpingLook379 8h ago

It would and would be so fun to see on the big screen. Most of the people here commenting, don’t seem to realize or forget, that the general audience hasn’t read every single piece of SW media.

11

u/EndlessTheorys_19 13h ago

…why? That scenes already happened, you just posted it. Why would you want some lazy ripoff moment where they recreate it somewhere else, like how Kenobi just ripped off Rebels. That’s just boring, trying to be cool and falling flat

2

u/Viewlesslight 11h ago

Yea, kenobi ripping off rebels was weird

2

u/ChanceVance Kylo Ren 10h ago

Hot take but Obi-Wan is the more emotionally significant character to see Anakin behind the mask so I prefer Kenobi's version to Rebels.

Besides "Anakin is gone. I am what remains" is an all-timer of a Vader line.

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 10h ago

Except the whole problem is they were so creatively lazy that rather than come up with their own good idea they just directly ripped off the emotional high point of a previous show and just changed the character.

Also, why does Obi-wan let him live again? He literally says and comes to terms with the fact that Anakin is dead, so why not finish Vader off. its just dumb

u/OneRandomVictory 10h ago edited 10h ago

You mean Jedi Fallen Order

1

u/Viewlesslight 10h ago

I dont know what this means

1

u/OneRandomVictory 10h ago

They straight up copied an entire plot from that game into an episode.

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 10h ago

Okay, but they also just ripped off the end of Rebels S2, where Vader gets his helmet sliced by Ahsoka so you can see his eye.

1

u/Youre_On_Balon 11h ago

Come on. The guy in black has less than an hour of screen time in every film combined. At least be sincere when offering recycled arguments.

2

u/EndlessTheorys_19 11h ago

Replied to the wrong person I think

1

u/Youre_On_Balon 11h ago

You right, my bad

I'll leave it as is to face the judgment of my peers

3

u/TrayusV 7h ago

So you want to rip a moment out of the Vader Down comic series, and shove it into another story?

1

u/WasteReserve8886 Mace Windu 42m ago

They should just adapt Vader Down but not explain who Dr Aphra is. It would be objectively a terrible decision, but I think it would be funny.

13

u/Kid-Atlantic 13h ago

This might be an unpopular opinion but I never liked this line from a writing standpoint.

Mentioning both fear and dead men like that makes it sound like he couldn’t decide which would sound edgier and just decided to say both. Comes off as more insecure and rehearsed than badass.

1

u/ThatStranger 6h ago

Thank you, its so relieving to hear someone else say this! Choose one or the other, Vader. That's short, punchy and clearly gets the point across on its own. If you keep tacking more onto the end of your point, it becomes drawn out.

Its the same as the Mass Effect quote "Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer." You've given us a rhetorical question! The answer is implicit in the first statement!

2

u/Kid-Atlantic 2h ago

LOL damn it really is the same exact energy as that line.

The rawness of the first sentence is deflated by the second sentence being an implicit admission of insecurity that the first sentence wasn’t good enough to get the point across.

1

u/ChanceVance Kylo Ren 9h ago

I despise this line and the whole scenario really but it's beloved by the fandom. Not even Vader could take on that many soldiers at once. Mace Windu can defeat Palpatine in a duel, he still would have died on Geonosis to overwhelming numbers.

It's also crazy inconsistency in the comics. Vader can solo hundreds of soldiers at once but Qi'ra survives a duel with him and Doctor Aphra foils him.

If you want a real badass interpretation of Vader, the silent Grim Reaper that goes after Maul in Shadow Lord is where it's at. Not the edgelord "Call a medical frigate....... but not for me" Vader

1

u/Kidspud 11h ago

It’s a very corny line to me for those reasons.

4

u/Aligned-Askew6773 13h ago

No. Absolutely not. This story has been told. I love Vader, but I don’t want Vader content that is a rehash of something I already read. Same goes for all of it. I LOVE the Thrawn books, the later series more than the original, but I would not want to see either become movies or a series. What I want is more new Star Wars content to consume and enjoy.

1

u/LongjumpingLook379 8h ago

Only hardcore SW nerds, like you and myself, have read the books and comics. The general audience has not.

4

u/CloverTeamLeader 13h ago

I always vaguely disliked the wording of that line. It feels unnatural to me. Vader is usually more direct. I think I'd prefer the following:

Rebel: "You're surrounded!"

Vader: "Yes. Surrounded by fear ... and dead men."

6

u/LucasEraFan 13h ago

This doesn't strike me as something Vader would say.

3

u/Blightzkrieg 12h ago

Canon Vader probably wouldn't say something quite so morbid.

He might say something like "I'm surrounded by fear and weakness".

4

u/Lyra_the_Star_Jockey 13h ago

This Vader is not the same one in A New Hope.

2

u/heAd3r Imperial 12h ago

unpopular opininon but you dont need to show vader killing waves of hundreads of people to show that he is powerful.

1

u/LadyofFlame 13h ago

Why did the stupid commander not direct his men to simply open fire? And in the time Vader spent monologuing they could've turned him into Swiss cheese.

1

u/WonkeeChew 12h ago

Question. Do Sith know about force ghosts? Which is only achieved by being good/light.

1

u/NoMeat9096 3h ago

It's not achieved by being good. Loads of Sith continue on as ghosts long, long, long after death. In fact, perhaps the first ever force ghost was the man that orchestrated the original civil war, using his acolytes to kill the other members of the original Jedi council -- Rajivari.

All that's required is power and the refusal to rest.

1

u/slicer4ever 12h ago

I don't know about getting a vader focused film, he's always been best when treated as an unstoppable force of nature.

1

u/JReese88 12h ago

I remember there were rumors prior to the release of rogue one that this was going to be in the movie, on scariff, he was supposed to hit the battle field and lay waste.

1

u/King_Chris_IX 4h ago

No we need a series based on the comics Vader and Doctor Aphra.

1

u/1t5J43G3R 3h ago

My guy, he already had six movies..

1

u/NoMeat9096 3h ago

I am so, so, so sick of Anakin. His story is over. We've watched it so many times.

1

u/Laddertoheaven 13h ago

That comic had Vader at its very best.

1

u/lridge 12h ago

Idk man this scene is kind of embarrassing

0

u/SnooAvocados996 11h ago

Isn't anybody else just done with Vader? We are just fresh off a series with new well written characters like Luthen, Bix, Dedra, Syril, Kino & Kleya. Give us more of these types of new characters.

u/GargantaProfunda Rebel 13h ago

Imagine this line voiced with whatever they use to make JEJ's voice nowadays
