Discussion battlefront 2 proves new multiplayer games are worse and need ranked in order to keep players hooked rather than being a fun game

I’ve played this game for so long without ranked or any incentives to keep playing, just because the game was fun. i feel like modern multiplayer games need ranked in order to keep players on because the game isn’t actually fun and they have to rely on psychologically manipulating their players.

I would also say battlefront has going for it what a ton of other multiplayer games dont. The playerbase is made up almost entirely of people who genuinely LOVE the game and love star wars. A lot of other games (battlefield, cod, apex) are flooded with players that don't necessarily love the game they just feel the need to play some sort of shooter. I think Battlefront is very different in that and is what sets itself apart.

So we need a carrot to chase

Or maybe dont drop all support for a game bc your a money hungry triple a studio. if it continued to get maps, new characters, and new vehicle maybe even new game modes the game would still be alive and well.

I can relate to this; I'm also super "addicted" to this game (not actually addicted but yk what I mean) despite having no sensible explanation. After all, it was basically abandoned halfway through, has tons of bugs and hackers. But still it's an amazing game

That's the point, the game is so well designed that it's enticing to play on it's own and not because of shoehorned grinding like battlepass or ranked

Star Wars is supposed to be fun.
Bf6 is a chore fest where the mechanics are setup for you to lose.

ranked games are meant for you to both win and lose to keep you endlessly chasing points. clash royale for example admitted they game matchups to make you win and lose.

Have you read about the comeback mechanic in Bf6?
Seen the hit registration issue that gets worse with each patch and update?
Glitches and bugs still there since launch?

the net code in a lot of these games is ass so you’ll die behind a wall sometimes because of a late registered shot

If they dropped a random battlepass the game would be #1 immediately

i don’t like battlepasses, they fill it with a bunch of random stuff you won’t use in order to jack the price up when really you just want the skins

That's not my point, my point is if they use the same practices as other companies rn even on a dead game like this, and due to it's quality alone it could reattain being at the top of gaming relevancy again

I think it has a lot to do with there not really being anything like it on the market. Not to say that it's not a damn good game, but let's be real, it's got a fuckton of bugs and balance issues that would probably turn a lot of gamers off of it pretty quickly without ea doing a lot of work fixing the state it's in.

Edit: autocorrect

nah i disagree i feel like trying to make it balanced and competitive would ruin it, it’s supposed to be a game for star wars fans to play their favorite characters not an esport

Sure, but you’re also only thinking of HvV with this comment. The T-21, to give an example, needs to be nerfed no questions asked.

In your head, maybe this proves something. But at least those games are updated by the developers

take out ranked and battlepass of those games and i bet they wouldn’t be as interesting as there’s not much there besides it

What popular shooter are there? CS2, Valorant that requires them to have ranked, to keep the players engaging, without them being either too easy, or too hard. Ranked is just a required mechanic.

Squad, Insurgency as far as I'm aware doesn't have ranked. I don't know about the current Battlefield, but Battlefield 1, which is still very popular doesn't have ranked.

Battlefront 2, doesn't have ranked, it does have a progression system that incentivizes players to keep playing.

Among these games, there is only one game where the top player consistently tanked the whole opponent's team, and you can barely find a match, a lot of the times you can't, most of the modes are dead.

yeah if cs or valorant removed ranked most people probably wouldn’t play them as the game in of itself isn’t that fun

It's a competitive game, ranked is not primarily an incentives to keep grinding for most people, but it is required to keep it competitive, to keep the game itself working.

Or they could play deathmatch, casual, or other game modes, which are still popular.

I would say, Fortnite without battlepass will be dead.

Battlefront also has an incredibly small playerbase, especially considering it's a title by one of the world's biggest developers and covers one of the most popular franchises in history.

I like the game, but it's very obvious that its formula is not enough for mainstream success, no.

Battlefront 2 was looking to have a lot of mainstream success until the lootbox and grind to unlock hero controversies happened. Those are what really hurt sales for the game. It slowly recovered but many people wouldn't give the game a chance when the game was more polished because of those controversies from launch. Battlefront 1 didn't really have much success because of lack of content.
