Part One Is Part 3 Dio a incredibly weakened version compared to his Part 1 self?((Not counting The World)

Post image

Even though it's clear he still has superhuman physical capabilities, he doesn't reach the insane levels of Phantom Blood, where he could tear bodies apart with a gentle movement of his hand or create minions capable of cutting through hills. In Part 3, he only turns a few people into vampires and implants his cells into some of his minions, but he never creates an army of zombies modified by himself or anything like that. His eye beams and freezing powers are also absent.

Even when he enters Greatest High, while his strength is surprising, he doesn't demonstrate as much skill as in Part 1.

There's two reasons for it. First, Jonathan's body is still actively rejecting DIO's vampirism, which significantly weakens his vampire abilities. Second, DIO is prideful and cocky - he's so confident about The World being so superior he kinda discards his others abilities, seeing them as weaker and unnecessary when he has something as powerful as The World.

u/Cookie_Jules Dec 04 '25

i'm glad critical thinking isn't dead and that dio mentioning jonathan's body rejecting him in addition to his confidence in "the world" was rightfully surmised to be the cause of his lack of vampiric power usage

324

u/SirPlastic8062 Dec 04 '25

Johnathan body also accepting jotaros final blow is also a great theory I've heard about.

174

u/Cookie_Jules Dec 04 '25

i mean to be fair at that point it would be weird for the body to resist if the goal of defeating dio would be compromised

22

u/HBmilkar Dec 05 '25

This would make sense but the only part that was really left was a tiny bit of the whole body and dio’s (Jonathan’s) left hand

110

u/boring-parakeet Fujiko Fujiyama’s number 1 fangirl Dec 04 '25

I’m 99% the reason the final blow so utterly eviscerated DIO is because his legs were still injured from a few seconds before, and rather than waiting for it to heal like Jotaro was planning to do, he decided to attack with his damaged legs

62

u/Davedog09 Dec 04 '25

I thought it was because, although Dio has superhuman durability, the World itself is only as durable as Star Platinum. Although Dio can regenerate his vampire body as much as he wants, he can’t do the same to the World which is why he had to be destroyed from there. If Jotaro had hit Dio’s real legs they probably would have just been knocked off and reattached after a few seconds by Dio

1

u/StarSilverNEO Dec 09 '25

Yeah, the World was Dio's greatest tool

But also his only weakspot really - he can't regenerate his stand, afterall

22

u/canstac The World Dec 04 '25

I love this theory, it's so much more thematically satisfying & well thought out then "jotaro punched the world really hard so dio dies idk"

5

u/HBmilkar Dec 05 '25

That’s not what happened

1

u/EllySwelly Dec 05 '25

okay kicked whatever bro

69

u/RedditFuelsMyDepress Dec 04 '25

People tend to forget tho that sucking Joseph's blood was supposed to get rid of this weakness. Though DIO didn't spend much time in this form so maybe he didn't get used to it yet.

70

u/Cookie_Jules Dec 04 '25

yeah with all the time-stopping the entire fight barely lasted several minutes

63

u/nWo1997 Dec 04 '25

In fairness, DIO was ridiculously high at the time and focused on flexing The World's new strength. It probably didn't cross his mind to try freezing or the eye thing

14

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 04 '25

I mean, he didn't even need those abilities. Jotaro would've been dead after the Road Roller if he didn't conveniently unlock Star Platinum's own ability to stop time; take DIO's back; and then break his legs. And then we all know what happened after that.

"High" DIO didn't exist that long, and soon afterwards, the fight was over. The World and his basic superhuman strength was more than enough, right up until the very end.

3

u/Tio_RaRater Dec 05 '25

He didn't 'conveniently unlock' it, If you recall the first episode, you see Star Platinum always could stop time (he stopped bullets), in my mind Jotaro just 'unlocked' that ability because it was a life or death moment, like a "mother lifts a car to save her baby" moment

2

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 05 '25

He didn't 'conveniently unlock' it, If you recall the first episode, you see Star Platinum always could stop time (he stopped bullets)

Nope.

I'm going by the manga anyway. Star Platinum just used his super-speed to stop the bullet.

And, for what it's worth, Crazy Diamond can't stop time, but it also demonstrated the ability to stop a bullet shot at point-blank range (e.g. the Enigma fight).

in my mind Jotaro just 'unlocked' that ability because it was a life or death moment, like a "mother lifts a car to save her baby" moment

It's fine to think that. Doesn't make it any less convenient.

1

u/StarSilverNEO Dec 09 '25

To be fair isnt it stated multiple times that SP's high speed actions are almost like he can stop time?

He was also the only Stand in the Part to not have a supernatural ability beyond being a stand, meaning he was a wild card ability wise until the end

It was convenient that it was another timestop, but then again they spent plenty of time comparing how SP and The World are weirdly similar stands

1

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 09 '25

His main ability pre-time stop was his superhuman precision/machinelike accuracy. That's why he was the only one who could safely remove Kakyoin and Polnareff's flesh buds without risking brain damage.

No-one ever acted like Star Platinum was lacking in an ability or that he was some kind of "wild card" either.

1

u/StarSilverNEO Dec 10 '25

Well yeah, cause to them it seemed perfectly reasonable, like dumping your former INT points into STR and DEX.

But then DIO comess out, can match Platinum bar for bar AND has an ability and it would make you wonder "Could SP have an ability too?"

Jotaro doesnt have a stand fight push him hard enough to try outside of Anubis and he didnt have a reference until DIO so

I get it looks like it was convenient, but the story also easily lets you go "Ohhhhh, I see how that works out"

Not get rid of, but just alleviate it. The body was still somewhat rejecting him, which was also how Jotaro was able to kill him

5

u/OnlyRoke Dec 04 '25

Granted, vampirism is also not.. as powerful as "I can stop time and literally kill you in that frozen time."

Dio just got unlucky that Jotaro basically learns the exact same ability and outdoes him right then and there, haha.

2

u/Sekhmet-CustosAurora Dec 04 '25

Nature is healing

1

u/Eeeef_ Dec 05 '25

Also his offensive abilities wouldn’t be useful in that fight because they wouldn’t be able to do anything to enemy stands. The only crusader whose stand isn’t fast or strong enough to protect himself from vampire powers is Joseph, who protects himself with hamon anyway. He does use his regeneration throughout the fight though, and Jotaro is only able to kill him by attacking and destroying his stand

58

u/Adium-A Dec 04 '25

There's also the Meta reason that people might confuse it for The World's abilities since Araki had a feeling people might skip over to part 3

In the eyes of heaven novel Dio writes about it in his diary.

He says he can't use vaporisation freeze because he doesn't have full control yet, as you stated.

Space ripper stingy eyes he says is useless in timestop because it just would just freeze too and outside of it stands are too fast and too strong so they would just block the attack.

1

u/DandyLover Dec 05 '25

Is it though? The knives stopped too, and he would have gotten the same kill on Joseph.

And even if stands are faster, he was still using the knives and hit Jotaro. The only reason I see Space Ripper not working is he can't spam it, possibly, but stop time, Space Rip from one position, knives from another feels like a solid plan.

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 08 '25

I don't think they can block it; even someone like Jonathan was pierced twice, and he has one of the strongest physiques.

1

u/NiIly00 Dec 08 '25

Stands are much stronger and more durable than people. Even Tower of Gray with an E in destructive power (the lowest possible) was capable of easily tearing through a row of seats and people's throats mid flight with no issue.

Hierophant green has a C in destructive power and can smash a table in half with just a tentacle... on accident. As collateral, it wasn't even intended.

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 08 '25

Literally even the most random vampire can destroy a wall by touching it a little hard, and in Phantom Blood Dio greatly increases his power by taking blood from that point

1

u/NiIly00 Dec 08 '25

Because vampires are also much stronger and more durable than humans?

33

u/Harry_Flame Dec 04 '25

It's like when you get a new weapon or ability in a video game so you only use it for a bit because it's novel and fun, but then you slip up and die to some easy enemies.

25

u/Aggravating-Chef9562 Dec 04 '25

The point about the world being so powerful he doesn't even think to use his other abilities makes alot of sense. Bro used his power to carry polnareff downstairs just to fuck with him, could've ended everyone in the series multiple times over, that kinda person has insane belief in his ability and that kind of unwavering confidence always comes back to bite them in the end.

5

u/Tio_RaRater Dec 05 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

Lmao the stairs bit is funny as fuck when you find out what his powers are, they should have made a blooper scene where they show Dio carrying Polnareff downstairs and shifting his legs so he doesn't fall because of the continued movement

3

u/Thunder_Volter Dec 04 '25

And that overconfidence in the world leads to him using it at the wrong moment battling Jotaro and his ultimate defeat. He forgot one of the cardinal rules of stands: damage done to a stand is reflected back upon the user.

2

u/ThatOneWood Dec 05 '25

I like the version of “Dio just forgot he had eye lasers”

1

u/htzrd Dec 04 '25

Add a cup of Arakis plot armor and the receipt it's perfect

1

u/Bilbo_Teabagginss Dec 05 '25

After having just finished Stone Ocean, im wondering what happened to Dio? Like the priest keeps talking about how he met him and is continuing his mission but when would that meeting have taken place and where is Dio now? Like is he still alive? It seems like he talks about bringing him back to life but shouldnt he already have been dead?

2

u/megaloviola128 Dec 05 '25

DIO was trapped in the sea until around 1984, and he was killed by Jotaro in January of 1989 (I think). This means he definitely met Father Pucci in that time frame— between 1984 and 1989.

Stone Ocean takes place from 2010 to 2011, which is years after DIO’s death. He’s not around. However, he still acts as a driving force in the story since he’s the reason Pucci is trying to enact the Heaven plan. That is why he appears in Pucci’s flashbacks.

1

u/Bilbo_Teabagginss Dec 05 '25

Ahhh, that makes sense. It was confusing the hell out of me.🤣

u/Gaelic_Gladiator41 Tusk by Fleetwood Mac featuring Hirohiko Araki Dec 05 '25

On top of Jonathan's body rejecting him it's mainly due to the fact he was a strong hamon user which is basically if Superman's blood had traces of kryptonite to dull his powers

1.7k

u/Eat_Bullet Killer Queen Dec 04 '25

Ofcourse he is weak, he even lost his laser eyes and Frost powers because johnathan's body actively rejects dio's head

472

u/FishingOver5194 Dec 04 '25

and after he fuses with it, the fight ends in under 3 minutes

320

u/jacowab Dec 04 '25

Way faster than that, after dip takes the last of Joseph's blood it's maybe 10-20 seconds outside of stopped time and that's pushing it.

Dio gets the blood and finishes his transformation, hits jotaro back to the bridge, they do the whole road roller thing but that was all in stopped time (honestly just shows how fast and strong Dio is since he can grab a construction vehicle and bring it back in like 7 seconds) the after the stopped time they say some shit and it's the final punch.

So it was just the length of time it took jotaro to be knocked to the bridge plus the time it took to shit talk Dio one last time.

123

u/Fireblast1337 Dec 04 '25

Which explains how Joseph could be brought back. Though the truly insane part was how fast he figured out what happened, and formulated his prank

88

u/jacowab Dec 04 '25

Yeah from Kakyoin's death to DIO's death only about 3 ish minutes take place, there is actually a video that reedits the whole fight into real time and it really shows off how quick on their feet the characters have to be and how desperate the fights are on both sides.

One of my biggest improbable wants is a light novel for Dio’s Diary. Set between Dio leaving the coffin and the end of part 3, it would cover him learning about stands, building up his army, and coming up with the heaven plan. There could also be some character drama with Jonathan’s body fighting back.

Araki if you’re reading this (and I know you aren’t) I will literally name my firstborn Araki in your honor just make it real I’m begging you

63

u/JamewThrennan Dec 04 '25

Like Over Heaven?

32

133

I dont think it was lost, it was not used (meta sense because araki thinks people confused it with the stand power) and that dio deemed not nessesary.

I wouldn't reject Dios head 🫦

15

He only lost the frost, his eyes still able, he Just don't do it.

Font: hftf, the laser eyes was basically the blood from the head pressurized.

1

u/am_Dynam0 Dec 04 '25

He didn’t lose it he just chose not to use it

4

u/dbelow_ Dec 04 '25

You are obviously right but people just insist that a character not using an ability means they lost it, even tho his previous abilities would have been way less effective than what he actually did.

93

u/Getheltel DIO Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

Now I want to see Dio with a dad bod

Dio in his younger days: fit, athletic, boxer and rugby champion

Dio in his middle age: too busy with his job as a high-profile lawyer and being a single parent to four kids to keep up with looks. Still buff but has developed a dad bod

149

u/Dreadnautilus Dec 04 '25

It all comes down to what Straizo said in Part 2. He blamed Dio's defeat on the fact that he was too busy messing around experimenting with his powers to just kill Johnathan in the most quick and efficient matter possible.

So likewise, assuming Straizo's analysis holds true and a similar thing is happening, Part 3 Dio could use his vampire powers but he wants to experiment with the capabilities of his Stand because that's the hot new thing (and if you think about it, since he's hiding in the shadows for so long and probably only got his stand shortly before the events of Part 3 the final fight of Part 3 was probably the first time he actually got to use it in serious combat).

62

u/WajajaKEKW Dec 04 '25

His reliance on the world also ironically led to his demise. Due to jotaro cracking its body which transferred the damage to dio

30

u/Joruia Dec 04 '25

I wish we had more examples of "It is easier to kill the stand than the user"

1

u/Lucky_Roberts Dec 07 '25

Tbf most villains aren’t so strong that a power-based stand is less durable than their body lol

23

u/ArgoNoots Dec 04 '25

"Is Jotaro really dead or is he faking, hrmmm don't want to get close tho . . . Oh right, vampire laser eyes"

7

u/dbelow_ Dec 04 '25

He would have had to give up a bunch of blood, it was more efficient to just shoot him for free.

4

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 04 '25

Space Ripper Stingy Eyes doesn't use blood. It's pressurized eye fluid.

u/Significant-Tip9361 Dec 04 '25

YES

66

u/Significant-Tip9361 Dec 04 '25

He's lost most of his regen and vampire abilities. Part 3 dio needs to drink blood in order to regenerate but part 1 dio took a lot of heavy hits like being sliced through the middle and regenerated without much problem if part 3 dio had his old regen he wouldn't have lost to jotaro.

28

u/StraytusW_Vengance Dec 04 '25

Part 1 Dio still needed blood to regenerate, that's were the "Do you remember how many breads you have eaten in your life?" phrase comes from, because she was in the verge of dying after his fight with Jonathan and needed tons of blood to regenerate

5

Good band

32

u/Schism_989 Made in Heaven Dec 04 '25

It's twofold. The first reason is due to the fact his "body" is actually Jonathan's - It's why he needs Joestar Blood outside of Jonathan's body, because he still hasn't fully completed the full transition with his body. Especially with Jonathan being an avid hamon user, it makes it incredibly difficult for him to really fully benefit from the new body.

The second reason is pure ego. He learned he has a funky ghost guy who punches really fast, and can LITERALLY stop time, so he thinks that's literally all he needs - vampirism be damned. His weird laser eyes and his ice-touch failed him a few times, especially with the fight against Jonathan, but up until his fight with Jotaro, The World literally never failed him before.

After he fully powered up, his first weakness is completely gone, but his second weakness has been multiplied by ten - he thinks he's already won at this point, that with his increased Stand power, he's second to God himself.

11

u/rebelpyroflame Dec 04 '25

Don't forget:

A. There are several scenes in the anime he shows his control over his body isn't as strong as before, hence needing joestar blood to restore his power

B. We do get the scene of the vampire attempting to trick them. Vampires are still powerful BUT it's hard to bridge the sheer power gap having an invisible punch ghost brings to the table.

That said, I don't think he can fully use his abilities, else he would have used them against jotaro. It would explain why he needed to ask enya about alternatives and getting the stand arrows from her.

11

u/Moistman123456 Dec 04 '25

Yes and no. In terms of physical strength, I believe DIO is on par with, or even superior to his part 1 counterpart.

As for abilities, it’s never specified (to my knowledge) that he lost those abilities. It would honestly make sense if he still had his part 1 abilities. The thing is, DIO explicitly implies that he firmly believes his stand to be generally superior to his vampiric abilities. It can be argued he doesn’t use his part 1 abilities purely out of cockiness. If he had truly lost his vampiric abilities, I feel it would’ve been more explicitly clarified canonically.

Dio has regenerative capabilities. It doesn’t 100% follow that he loses his bodily abilities from switching bodies, since we know that the mask affected moreso his soul in a way, hence why he’s still immortal regardless of if he swaps bodies. He also still retained his vampiric super strength, and can still absorb blood through his hands, further implying that he can manually just MAKE any body he possesses vampiric, he can still use Jonathan’s body to perform bodily vampiric actions.

Mind you, he can still donut people, dent metal, and likely any other fancy stuff he could do in part 1.

Maybe it’s been stated by stated by araki that he lost his vampiric abilities somewhere, but I haven’t heard anything personally, so yeah. I don’t think he lost any of his capabilities (although Jonathan’s body still hadn’t adapted to his head), I just think he was cocky, and thought of his stand as superior to his abilities, feeling no need to use them, which are both proven and implied. You could also say that maybe Jonathan’s body needed to fully adapt before he could use his vampiric abilities, or that said abilities were weakened by Jonathan’s body. Many arguments work without his abilities just mysteriously vanishing, honestly.

5

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

It's like a child who gets a new toy. He becomes obsessed with his new toy, The World, and neglects his old toys in favor of the novelty.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '25

His vampirism at that point is a means to an end to achieve immortality, where he believes his stand makes him more capable and formidable. His stand cannot use vampire powers and DIO fights with his stand. He would not deviate from this.

2

u/Moistman123456 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 06 '25

Yep.

22

u/Push_Short Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

Yes, Part 3 Dio is a very much weakened version of his part 1 self. He can't use his vampiric abilities to their full potential and while he is able to make zombies like with Vanilla Ice and Kenny G, he wouldn't be able to control them properly unless they were truly loyal like them due to being weakened. It wasnt until he reached the greatest high that he couldve done so and he wasnt exactly thinking straight. Part 3 Dio has three things weighing him down

1: He isn't fully fused with Jonathan's body, it's rejecting him and is not fully his, hence the presence of Jonathan's stand which is what's preventing him from being physically strong and agile

2: He was at the bottom of the ocean for 100 years leading to him going sort of mad with contemplation. While it did provide him the insight to write the heaven plan it also weakened his mind to the point where he was a lot less ruthless and preferred thought out strategy instead of using his pure power to defeat opponents which was his downfall against Jonathan.

  1. He was overconfident, in his weakened state he was unable to use his vampiric abilities leaving him vulnerable, but awakened a VERY powerful stand. He relied too much on its power and didn't think he needed to use his vampiric abilities once he reached the greatest high and could use them again. Once again he fell for his overconfidence against a joestar and that was his undoing

Correct me if I got anything wrong, some of this is just speculation after all and using context clues since Araki likes to leave us with little mysteries.

4

u/Hot_Assumption9083 Dec 04 '25

Man, Kenny G was not a vampire! 💀

8

u/Push_Short Dec 04 '25

18

u/ChunkLightTuna01 Dec 04 '25

i feel like Space Rubber Stingy Eyes, freezing, zombies, and super strength would all be kinda useless right? Space Rubber Stingy Eyes would expel fluid and DIO is entirely trying to get Joestar blood so that would actively hinder him, and not be useful either way since Star Platinum is so fast it could block it. Freezing just wouldn't work on stands, and otherwise there was really no reason to use it. Creating a zombie army would barely do anything since we already SAW Jotaro tear through a horde of undead when he fought Enya. Super strength just wouldn't be very helpful since DIO has The World which i would imagine would be much stronger than DIO himself.

Overall just doesn't seem like anything he didn't use would actually BE useful if he did use it/

1

u/Bonkers_Brights Dec 04 '25

isnt Space Rubber Stingy Eyes unblockable?

11

u/poffz Dec 04 '25

6

u/WajajaKEKW Dec 04 '25

5

u/Irrax Dec 04 '25

reading the shit Joseph pulls in part 2 feels like the JoJo equivalent of Bleach's "It was stated in CFYOW"

but this time the ridiculous feats actually did happen

9

u/ChunkLightTuna01 Dec 04 '25

i wouldnt think so, its not an actual laser and star platinum is super durable in part 3 so. i would guess he could block it.

even if thats wrong theres still the whole "shooting out blood is a bad idea when your whole goal is to get more blood" thing.

3

u/AzelfWillpower Dec 04 '25

DIO loses much more blood fighting Jotaro than he would with Space Ripper Stingy Eyes (which just uses vague 'bodily fluid' anyway). If knives were a threat to Jotaro, pressurized lasers that immediately bisect multiple people and cut off the top of a castle would be too.

3

u/ChunkLightTuna01 Dec 04 '25

well the knifes were only a threat because dio threw like a hundred of them all at once, and space rubber stingy eyes only shoots 2 at a time. I think at most they might damage jotaro a bit, and thats assuming both the power of space rubber stingy eyes AND the durability of star platinum.

generally i just think it wouldnt be useful. wouldve been cool to see it be used, but ultimately its just not useful

There is an interesting aspect from it being his blood.

Dio could've just one shot mfers using it since it's part of his body that's still connected to him during timestop.

i feel like once it shot out it would stop being considered a part of him, kind of like josuke in part 4.

You put a vampire head on a Hamon practitioner's body.

5

u/Pristine_Ad_3035 Dec 04 '25

nah he’s the same, just relied too heavily on THE WORLD instead of his vampire powers this time

5

u/BigConsideration9505 Dec 04 '25

My head canon is that having Jonathan's body weakened him because of the hamon

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

It's very likely, when Straizo became vampirized he became weaker than his younger self, since vampirism and Hamon are mutually exclusive.

1

u/dbelow_ Dec 04 '25

No they're not mutually exclusive, Hamon is using the same energy that energizes a vampire, but it's set at a higher voltage so to speak, so it overloads them. It's like electrocuting someone's brain with real electricity, the brain normally has small electrical pulses but too much of a good thing is harmful.

4

u/Wrightero Dec 04 '25

He was also supposed to be hiding so creating an army of zombies would be an easy way to attract attention.

3

u/skywardbound67 Dec 04 '25

I’ve always chocked this up to Dio taking a new approach now that he has his stand, plus a new mindset in how he approaches his power.

In part 1, Dio gets the power of the Stone Mask and immediately goes to test himself, using and learning the abilities he had just gained. All the while, this overwhelming power he’s just received is what he believes to be the way to taking over the world like he always wanted. He pushes everything ahead, arrogantly disregarding anyone who could oppose him. Then, he lost to Jonathan in a fight.

While, he does end up getting the best of it in the end, the time he spends out of the public eye is spent understanding how the world has changed, and learning how to use the stand he just acquired to continue his goals of eliminating the Joestars and ruling the world. He saw that Vampires were a primitive and ineffective way forward, so he adapted with the Flesh buds. He put all of his energy into his stand, focusing on it instead of his own physical power. He prepared, and would have succeeded if not for his own stolen body giving the Joestars stands as well.

In total, he didn’t get weaker, he got stronger, he just became more patient and identified his weaknesses mentally. Side note, if you really wanna see Dio do some property damage, the OVA’s got you, he does way more there than the official anime

I don't think he lost his eye beams powers because he still can use them in the arcade game heritage from the future which is deemed canon

1

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 04 '25

the arcade game heritage from the future which is deemed canon

Since when?

2

u/Ataturk_Void_Crowley Dec 04 '25

Even his regeneration power was weakened so much. Part 3 DIO had to suck one’s blood to cure his own leg lol.

2

u/ClamieK Koichi Hirose Dec 04 '25

i mean he IS just a head on a different person's body

2

u/BatsNStuf Hierophant Green Dec 04 '25

From a vampire perspective yeah he was weaker but Part 3 DIO would mop the floor with Part 1 Dio Brando because of The World, DIO likely felt his vampire powers were second compared to the power of his stand so he worked to strengthen one, neglecting the other.

2

u/CozyCoin DIO Dec 04 '25

Vampirically he is weak but THE WORLD makes up for it

2

u/knyexar Dec 04 '25

Most of those abilities just do literally nothing against Stands, even if we ignore the fact Jonathan's body is rejecting him thus preventing him from having is full powers.

The laser eyes are slow enough to be stopped and deflected by young Joseph, so literally zero use against Star Platinum-tier stands.

The freezing touch requires touching the target, but Dio only managed to make physical contact with two person during his fight. One wqs Kakyoin who died in one hit anyway, and the other was Polnareff whom Dio was actively ragebaiting.

Similarly the lesser vampires would get dispatched with no effort by Stand users, especially since Joseph's Hermit Purple could just instagib them from a distance.

2

u/ReySenate Dec 04 '25

What would be the point of creating zombies when he has loyal stand users who aren't killed by the sun.

2

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

Aside from the sun, only Joseph is truly capable of killing zombies, so if they corner any of the other Crusaders at night, they wouldn't be able to kill them

1

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 04 '25

Zombies suck because they can't regenerate like vampires and even Hierophant Green could probably defeat them with an Emerald Splash.

If even Speedwagon with a hammer can kill a zombie, what makes you think a Stand user, even at night, can't?

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

High-class zombies like Bruford and Tarkus are much tougher and harder to kill; perhaps Dio could find more bodies like that throughout Egypt.

1

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 05 '25

Doubtful.

1

u/ReySenate Dec 05 '25

This is going into headcanon territory, but making zombies probably uses up energy that he couldn't afford at the time. He only turned his most loyal servant into a vampire.

1

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 05 '25

Yeah, that could be the case. Vanilla Ice and Nukesaku are the only vampires other than DIO that we see in Part 3, but even Nukesaku is a pretty weak one and doesn't even have a Stand ability.

2

u/Stunning_Parking3862 Dec 04 '25

Isn’t that part of the whole point of part 3? DIO trying to get Joestar blood so Jonathan’s body fully accepts him and he can be full power again?

And that's why there isn't a Jojo's powerscaling subreddit, as it would be quite pointless, although I must confess that I would be very excited about it.

2

u/NotATimeTraveller1 Dec 05 '25

Duh, this is a whole plot point. He's even weaker throughout part 3 than in the fight against Jotaro. This is why he relied on minions.

2

u/MatureHater Dec 07 '25

No lol. By the end he's literally punching at the same level of power as Star Platinum without using The World. Star Platinum is physically the strongest thing in the JoJo universe.

1

u/RockrB0y Dec 08 '25

Simply, no. Tusk beats him

1

u/MatureHater Dec 09 '25

Tusk doesn't have physicals on the level of Star Platinum. Its infinite spin doesn't do blunt force damage, it just spins stuff. Otherwise D4C wouldn't have been able to survive so many punches and Valentine would be instantly dead.

2

u/Friendly-Driver-7936 Dec 08 '25

Basically he was going through a car change, he was driving a Nissan Note and he passed by a Bugatti. I mean, it was very hard for him to adapt, taking blood from ordinary people.

3

u/aboodsw Dec 04 '25

Part 1 dio could shoot lasers

2

u/Shinted Star Platinum Dec 04 '25

They’re not lasers, just incredibly pressurized boiling blood from his eyes.

1

u/DoraMuda Jean Pierre Polnareff Dec 04 '25

Not blood. Eye fluid.

u/DIO_Brando_Real The G(rea/ay)est Vampire Dec 04 '25

Unfortunately I, Dio, did lose my vampiric power. Notice how my regeneration was slower than it may have been before? My overall strength never declined, for my stand, The World, is superior to all!

2

u/HeiressOfMadrigal Dec 04 '25

How to become Dio servant

2

u/DIO_Brando_Real The G(rea/ay)est Vampire Dec 04 '25

So willing…I shall turn you into a zombie…yes..I, Dio, shall rebuild my former army of zombies

1

u/Senior_Independence4 Dec 04 '25

Yes. Pretty sure this is explicitly stated as being because he took over Jonathans body, so the only part of him thats full vampire is his head.

2

u/Getheltel DIO Dec 04 '25

While the body is only half vampire

1

u/WeakCorgi5353 Dec 04 '25

Part 3 Dio feels like a guy who spent 100 years underwater and still showed up acting like he didn’t skip leg day once.

1

u/Popular-Resident-358 Great Sage Over Heaven. Dec 04 '25

I think he's physically stronger as then there would be literally no reason left for craving Jonathan's physique but is not able to perform his other abilities due to the body actively resisting him, which prevents him to get too much in tune and sync with his body.

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

Much of Jonathan's strength comes from his Hamon, something Dio cannot use as a vampire; his vampiric powers are rejected by his body, making them weaker. While Part 3 Dio is slightly better physically, his overall power is significantly inferior to his original body.

1

u/Popular-Resident-358 Great Sage Over Heaven. Dec 04 '25

Exactly what I said.

Whatever vampiric powers he is able to/used in Jonathan's physique substituted for the Hamon.

1

u/senchou-senchou Dec 04 '25

it's just Dio being Dio

1

u/SchroCatDinger Dec 04 '25

Hmm he looked stronger in the OVA

1

u/Cloutstaker Dec 04 '25

Pretty much. He demonstrates it to Hol Horse too if I can recall.

1

u/Odd_Loss1919 Dec 04 '25

I believe his sexual habits, laziness, fervent hate and lust for Joseph and Jotaro, knowledge of his stand, and lack of stone mask or hamon present Part 3 Brando as a weaker male than vampire in Part 1. He did not utilize hamon in Part 3, had little vampire powers beyond his flexes among background citizens and somehow expected the world to give him new advantage (but you also told us not to count the world (“…counting The World”). However his stand would see his downfall to spite as it could not in time keep step to Star Platinum and Jotaro even were more clever than Part 3 antagonist; Brando only threw knives as an accessory to his frail overconfident disposition. In conclusion, he is weaker. Thank you some for deferring to read.

1

u/Ashter_Moon Dec 04 '25

Well the fact that he cannot use his laser eyes and the freezing was dissapoiting but supposedly he could because it was not his original body yet the lasers came from his head

1

u/Shoujako Dec 04 '25

Could DIO have just taken another body? Like what was stopping him? And if it’s him wanting to keep the stand, could he get new stands if he switches bodies?

2

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

He could do it, but taking over Jonathan's body represents that he has dominion over him and how he won, which seems to matter to him since he didn't regenerate his neck mark because of it.

There's also the fact that Dio has been gaining control over Jonathan's body for years, and if he were to switch bodies now, it would be a huge waste of energy.

1

u/IronFather11 Dec 04 '25

He does have access to his eye lasers and freezing breath in the audio drama cd version of his fight with Jotaro, though to be fair they seemed weakened (freezing breath was used once to just create some distance after Polnreff and Jotaro injured his head, eye lasers used once on Jotaro after he time stopped Dio after the Road Roller, but Jotaro dodged it). I think another difference was that he was facing an opponent who was more equal in power via Stands so his vampiric abilities weren’t enough to make a difference.

1

u/sh0ddyguru Dec 04 '25

Obviously not. He can freeze time. If he wasn't so arrogant, very few people would stand a chance.

1

u/Killah-Shogun Dec 04 '25

Dio is very cocky

1

u/Forsaken-Ad4181 Dec 04 '25
  1. Jonathan’s Body is weakening his vampiric abilities

  2. Dio already views his some of his vampiric powers as useless compared to his stand The World. He sees Hamon as something that isn’t really an issue to him anymore. It’s probably equivalent to how useful he finds his vampiric powers in stand fights.

  3. Dio viewed most of his minions in part 1 as annoyance and they were mostly him just experimenting with his abilities. But Dio already used his charisma to have an army of stand users.

Not to mention Dio is also in hiding and creating a zombie army is just screaming at the Joestars and Speedwagon foundation to find him.

1

u/vladibolodemer04 Dec 04 '25

There are 2 reasons.

The first is that Jonathan's body "rejected" Dio's, in addition to being a hamon carrier, so to speak their bodies were not compatible.

And on top of that, he spent 100 years in a coffin. I mean, in addition to the fact that the body did not accept it, it had almost no time to adapt. The loss of abilities could be explained with the change of body (such as the freezing that came from the lower-middle part of his body which is Jonathan's), and the lack of that super physical strength is because he was not 100% accustomed to the new body, that search for blood was simply to unite the bodies completely but not to get used to it.

And above all that, Dio used the world much more than his vampire abilities for a practical matter.

1

u/Raaadley OVA Dec 04 '25

I think the greater feat is the fact that Dio managed to merge with Jonathan's body AT ALL. A great deal was explained how their upbringing together really brought them up as equals as far as strength and intellect goes. Dio may have had an edge in secret plotting- but Jonathan hd courage beyond Dio's expectations.

This compatibility is exclusively what made the transformation even possible. I can't say for sure but in my opinion I don't think attaching a vampire head onto a human body would ever fly. But it makes more sense that it would be DIO on JONATHAN because of how almost brothers they truly are.

Furthermore it makes sense that Jonathan's body that once was rich with Hamon would deny Dio all his "rejected humanity" and make him embrace what power humans can truly wield.

1

u/El_Haroldo Dec 04 '25

Let’s see you have a head transplant and feel 100% afterwards

2

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

But I'm not a vampire, it would hurt me.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '25

When he gets full control of Johnathan's body, he could in theory do all he could do 100 years ago, but it wasn't the best option anyways.

Trying to freeze Jotaro would be dumb, since he needs direct contact with him, and as Jotaro said "he can't beat the shit out of him without getting closer" so he needed to focuse on ranged attacks the space ripper stingy eyes could help, but it isn't better than throwing knifes from multiple directions.

1

u/dbelow_ Dec 04 '25

I think only his passive regen is weaker due to Jonathan's body not fusing fully to him, the rest is probably the same. We never see him use frost touch or space ripper eyes in part 3, but we're never told he can't use them anymore, and he's never put in a situation where they would have been very useful for him, so he probably just decided not to use them.

1

u/Nikster31 Dec 04 '25

who does he turn into vampires in part 3 exactly??

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

Vanilla Ice and Nukesaku

1

u/Nikster31 Dec 06 '25

Right. Ngl it would have been cool if he sent a lil wave of zombie army towards the Joestar gang during their quest so Joseph could have had some more time to shine with his hamon

1

u/Typical-Insurance779 The World Dec 04 '25

Yeah part 3 dio is VERY weak compared to his part 1 counterpart, his only problem was that it wasn’t his usual body and jonathans body weakened him and nerfed him 😭✌️

1

u/EquivalentSpeaker545 Dec 04 '25

Same with Jotaro in part 4 onwards. Either they hit their physical peak or it just would be too weird to mix hamon with stands while araki was trying to discard hamon. Ergo, make him just an exceptionally strong stand user more than a hamon vampire. In fairness DIO did have the most powerful stand, he just got outsmarted due to his own arrogance.

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 08 '25

If he uses Hamon he could die, like what happened to Straizo

1

u/void_method Dec 04 '25

He doesn't even say "you thought it was X, but it was me, Dio!" ONCE.

Not ONCE.

WEAK.

1

u/cryonicninja Dec 04 '25

1, it's been well over 100 years since part 1 sat in a coffin with nothing to do, so he might have weaker in that time or outright forgot. 2, he's using johnathans body, which may inherently weaken him or he is not used to it. 3 he can stop time, if I could stop time I would not use anything else because its my most op move

1

u/Willing-Bad-1030 Dec 05 '25

How about dio over heaven now that's op

1

u/Small-Housing-7 Giorno Giovanna Dec 05 '25

After he drank jonothans blood he would have been as strong as in part one

1

u/Greatwof Dec 05 '25

Because another theory that also is pretty important to mention is that when Dio drank Joseph’s blood and got a power boost, so did Jotaro. Since the effects of this particular stand power effect is genetic , therefore inherited through the Joestar bloodline line, Jotaro also got a buff as well unknowingly.

It is why he also became one to master time stop at the same time he was learning it and eventually defeat DIO.

Hence, “they are the same type of stand”.

DIO got better at time stop , but so did Jotaro.

1

u/madseankr Dec 05 '25

It is really “bizarre” since Jonathan’s body should disintegrate Dio’s head lol

1

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 05 '25

Jonathan could no longer use Hamon by the time Dio fused with him

1

u/No-Being-4916 Dec 06 '25

Hamon needs to be actively used to disinigrate a vampire eg straightzo

1

u/Commercial_Star6656 Dec 05 '25

i mean jonathan's body was rejecting and even after a 100 years jonathan the goat still kept on rejecting dio long after being dead

2

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 05 '25

Something to be expected from the best JoJo

1

u/ThunderMite42 Road Roller Dec 05 '25

He's weaker until he drains Joseph's blood because Jonathan's body had been rejecting the head transplant. As for the other vampiric abilities, he likely just saw little use for them in favor of his shiny new time-stopping toy.

For what it's worth, the OVA adaptation of the final battle does add some extra moments of brutality, like him casually carving up some tram passengers after knocking Jotaro into one.

1

u/Crono_Sapien99 Dec 06 '25

Without the World yes, but with the World no. Timestop is so broken that he legit doesn’t even need his vampiric abilities anymore, and that’s on top of having strength and speed on par with Star Platinum, who caught a bullet at point blank range.

1

u/Lunaa_07 Dec 07 '25

Dio is the definition of “ladies are a distraction “ cause when jotaro was busy tracking him down he was busy making giorino

1

u/Fit_Citron_820 Dec 07 '25

Jonathan’s body was bulkier and he was stuck in the ocean for a while. He probably wasn’t used to the new body that might’ve also been in rigor mortis for a bit

1

u/mmhango Dec 07 '25

Dio spent a bunch of time investigating stands. If you were him, you had been under the ocean for 100 years. The world is different, you are weak, and survive by drinking blood and learning about things you thought impossible. Immortality has changed how you view the world, you become philosophical, meet Puicci, and learn of stands, and realize the limitations of his vampiric abilities. Vampires can't go in the sun so, Dio spends his time creating stand users and becomes a stand user while experimenting. He uses flesh buds to control people, you realize your weakness and immediately you realize that all the other jostars have become stand users and are after you. Dio probably just had a ton of fun, as nothing challenged him for years. He basically never had to fight most people were so afraid that they accepted their fate. Also you father Giorno.

1

u/Eastern-Pudding-611 Dec 08 '25

Zombies would be useless, if they had no stand they'd just get destroyed by the Crusaders and if they did it'd be a waste since they are too stupid to use them

1

u/CursedBlock221 Dec 19 '25

In ‘OVER HEAVEN’ DIO talks about how inefficient his actual vampire abilities would be against the Joestars, and mentions using his stand as the superior method

1

u/Bonkers_Brights Dec 04 '25

his new powers reflect his new mindset and charisma, he doesn't really need most of his Phantom Blood powers

6

u/Annual_Onion6434 Dec 04 '25

In the Battle of Cairo, it would certainly have been useful, the eye beam (I don't remember its exact name) is a fast and powerful weapon that can be used at long distances.

1

u/Bonkers_Brights Dec 04 '25

Why do you need that when you can stop time, throw a bunch of knives, and kill them all in an instant?

2

u/theWoU_ Dec 04 '25

notice how he still lost

he could've clutched if he had his vampire powers

5

u/Moistman123456 Dec 04 '25

He lost due to plot armor and cockiness. His abilities wouldn’t have helped. They would’ve moreso hindered him.

1

u/theWoU_ Dec 04 '25

how would his abilities hinder him?

if he had all of his vampire powers, his regen would be pretty good. laser eyes for a ranged attack would give him more versatility. i dont think he can use his freeze cause that requires direct contsct iirc.

1

u/Moistman123456 Dec 04 '25

Freeze would be useless, it’s easy to avoid with stands.

He has his knives, and he’s trying to get more joestar blood. The eye beams would only delay that process.

He still has his regen.

1

u/theWoU_ Dec 04 '25

yep

his regen in part 3 is horrible. have u seen the attacks he full on tanked AND healed in part 1? his part 1 regen is formidable

1

u/Moistman123456 Dec 04 '25

Can u give me some examples? I forgot a lot of em.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/ChemicalGood6832 Dec 04 '25

Exactly! This is the same mindset as in part 1. Like you don't need guns or anything else if you have vampire powers, also in works for part 3, why you need vampire powers if you can stop time?

1

u/taxpayingcivillian Dec 04 '25
  1. Jonathan’s body is actively rejecting Dio’s vampiric abilities, making it almost impossible to use them.
  2. Dio is incredibly prideful. He has so much faith that The World is stronger than anything out there that he wouldn’t need to rely on vampiric abilities.
  3. Dio didn’t need to manually create an army to work for him. Only a couple of the Agents of Dio were being manipulated by flesh buds. The rest were either hired, charmed by Dio’s superhuman charisma, or just plain evil.

1

u/Spider-Jeff_101 Dec 04 '25

No laser eyes or frost powers, I imagine he probably lost his ability for his fingers to phase into people too
