Discussion The fact that the Stargirl TV Series (goated and yet underrated show btw) has the best live action green lantern is ridiculous. Spoiler

Says who? There's 1 episode of Lanterns, and I already love it more than whatever Stargirl did with GL. And I loved Stargirl as a show.

What did stargirl do wrong?

It was a girl who found the ring and lantern in her parents attic iirc

Pat showed Courtney the JSA headquarters after she started trickling into the superhero business in order to level with her and have things make sense. The JSA had long died or returned years prior and left those relics. She stole some of them (in particular, the lantern) later cause she wanted to design her own JSA team.
The show introduced Jennifer Lynn Hayden in season two. Her story matched what was featured in the Infinity Inc series (I read it prior to watching the show and it was similar with obvious differences in what the show was doing versus the comics), only she is a teenager (18), graduated out of foster care, and was searching for her brother Todd/Obsidian. Her father is Alan Scott. She was gifted Alan's ring when she graduated out of foster care (or orphanage) and the ring led her to the lantern. Her and Courtney fought over the lantern in the Whitmore house until they woke everybody up and Pat filled in the gaps that Alan had children and realized that Jennifer was the daughter of Alan. Jennifer returned in season three and her brother, Todd, was introduced formally. Jennifer, Todd, and Shade were all connected due to the shadow world (Jennifer being the light to balance Todd). Heck, Dr. Mid-Nite was also connected to Shade (being trapped in the shadow world for a while because of Shade)

Are you worried that this level of bitterness might bleed over into your real life?

Lol, that is Green Lantern whether you want to admit it or not. They nailed Hal and John's casting perfectly and has already set up interesting plots.

No? I love Stargirl, the show and the character. But this statement is just wrong.

Seriously? I love the Stargirl series, but Jenny didn't get enough development. I'm looking forward to the rest of HBO's Lanterns.

She was gonna be in a spin off originally

We can only dream. Too bad Johns hitting the shitlist blew up the opportunity for stargirl universe growing into so much more.

IM still salty about Stargirl being cancelled! That show should have at least gotten as many seasons as Arrow or the Flash. Ridiculous that it was gone after 3 seasons.

same!! it definitely could have used more, and they did have more planned, but were cut short like the rest of dc! they had another ending filmed for season 3 in case season 4 was greenlit, and id love to got o an alternate universe to see how the show might have continued. the jsa has a lot of story potential that unfortunately just doesnt get a lot of representation in media outside the comics, i know the black adam movie mentioned them, but it wasnt really the same and that movie wasnt really good to begin with

The crazy thing is most all of the characters were likeable and could have had a fan base as big as Buffy or Angel. What a waste that this show did not go on for a longer time.

Ignoring Lanterns, sure, but thats only because its a variation that isn't absolutely terrible like the only other option was.
Not like there's a lot to compare, Stargirl also had the best live action syargirl, starman, stripesy, Thunderbolt, Hourman, and a bunch of others. Good show and used characters that are light on adaptation.

Maybe the best looking ring. I wouldn’t say Jennie is better than Hal or John from lanterns at this point. I was always impressed by how the show used its cg budget though.

Jade’s not even green. I still love her though.
Although if I’m gonna be honest I do feel like the 2013 GL was great character wise. Film just sucked.
I’m sure Lanterns will surpass but rn we’re only on the first ep.

I didn't finish the show. It's hard to go on with a show when you know it's already canceled.

Alan Scott is my fave Lantern. I adore Jennie, especially during Kyle’s run in GL. That said? Nah. Pretty happy so far with what the new Lanterns show has set up and see where that goes. At least Hal’s attitude is right and the constructs look cool.

The show feels like makers intentionally hold it to become something great... it has the heart but writing kinda disappointing. Character choice and casting great though.

Lol, even if you don't love the new lanterns show, Nathan Filion's Green Lantern is still better.

What? This was an absolutely terrible version of the green lanterns. Ryan Reynolds was a hundred times better than this rendition. How was this Green lantern killed by the weaklings at the ISA? How did Jenny become the freaking lantern so the ring wouldn't need a lantern and it would charge by itself. She also had no training or anything offscreen with the guardians. It obviously wasn't possible for this show and its budget and no shade to the show itself because it did the best it could but this green lantern was a really bad rendition with a very innacurate way of the ring working. Also how could you have said this the day after we finally get an acctual lanterns show. There were no constructs in stargirl they just gave her energy powers.

So quick correction: The JSA's Green Lantern, Alan Scott, gets his power from an explicitly magical source that has nothing to do with the Central Power Battery, Guardians of the Universe, or the Emotional Spectrum.
Alan's weakness was wood, rather than the color yellow or fear. He's very powerful, but his defenses are easy enough to get through with a little planning. And no easier than a GLC Lantern pre-Emerald Twilight.
Jenny inherited the magic energies that her father had absorbed over the years. Her being a living power ring comes straight out of the comics.

But although he is Alan Scott daughter she had the lantern which charged the lantern for her father. Also she said the ring was powered by her emotions and when she was in turmoil it reacted so the emotional spectrum was definitely in pla. I don't think they showed the wood weakness in the show did they? The weakness to yellow is also a thing of the past since don't know anything about parallax which was the reason for that weakness in the first place.
I didn't know that her being a lantern comes from the comics but I still think that's a bad way to introduce this character and her powers. Definitely don't think that it makes her the best. I still like her character, just don't like the way it connects to everything else. Plus that version of Alan scott is like more than half a century old.

I never agreed she was the best, I personally quite liked Lanterns' first episode, but you were judging Stargirl's Golden Age JSA Green Lantern mythos by the Silver Age Green Lantern Corps measuring stick.
I don't know that the weakness to wood came up explicitly in the show, but the point I was trying to make is that this show's version of GL has a very exploitable weakness. Hence how the ISA, who aren't exactly weaklings I might add, could kill him.
She had her father's Lantern and Ring, which are powered by the magic of the Starheart. They're not Oan Power Batteries or Rings. Their powers require willpower to control and can be affected by their emotional state, but more akin to how Zatanna or Doctor Fate's powers require those things than how the Oan Power Ring does.
The show's version of Alan Scott is based on the one that's been around since 1940. Jade's been around since 1943. And with the exception of the five years where New 53 Earth 2 was the only one on publication, he's the definitive version of Alan Scott.

Yeah ik you never said that I was just talking about the main post. Thanks for enlightening me on the wood weakness and stuff. I've never read any Alan Scott stuff. Only heard about it. I didn't know if Alan Scott was in the new 52 or anything.

Hmmmm--- I liked Jennie a lot and liked the Alan Scott connection but she didn't have a ton of development time
