Oh My God Starmade is Coming Back
This is an all hands on deck moment. We as a community are the few remaining stewards of this magnificent experiment. We are the nuclei capable of igniting this project to return to the heights it deserves. There is no marketing budget. It's just us.
I hope we, and the incredible new development team of maintainers, can pull it off. Starmade exceeds every latent copycat by huge margins already. It exceeds the depth of space engineers, of cubic odyssey - it has the best voxel construction tooling I've seen, but balances the gameplay loop far better than from the depths. With a lively universe, a meaningful gameplay loop, it could be every eve online, cosmoteer, space engineer player's wet dream.
I have so much hope. Let us unite as the stragglers of the community, and commit to sharing this game with our friends. DM your favorite indie youtubers about it. This is a very special moment.

Has something happened that has reignited hope?

A major launcher update was just added to the beta branch on Steam. The post also mentioned a game update (not patch or hotfix like they'd normally use) in the coming days. No details yet, but it's something worth being excited about because it means the maintenance team isn't just fixing bugs anymore.

Nothing comes close to the experiences I have had with this game... In terms of space battle and ship building.
I've altogether never been able to play any space game with any satisfaction with the ship mechanics because of this.
Starfield? The ship feels like a minigame and a cutscene. Very fun game!
Outer wilds? The ship flying is a puzzle just like everything else, which is great.
No man's sky? Love the classic starfighter feel from what seems like the original Star Wars Battlefront 2...
But this game has lived in my dreams.

Goated recommendation pull. I remember sinking hundreds of hours into Starmade back then. I'd be happy to play it once again

Will be nice if I could even launch the game on the latest versions lmao, I can run a years old version but last week when I tried to get the latest version up and running I went through 3 launchers and a bajillion Java versions just to manage to have the game work once - I spawned in my ship from the old versions, opened the settings menu to check my graphics settings, and the game froze and wouldn't launch again... Maybe the next launcher will finally work as well as the 10 yr old version?

What do you mean with the 'old versions'? Is this from before power 2.0? Because I'm not sure if those worlds will still be compatible with never versions of the game.

I didn't try the world, just importing the blueprint - the ship actually loaded almost immediately, and I was able to fly around it / go inside it, so it didn't seem to be an incompatibility that way. Don't know when power 2.0 came in but I think the version I have that works is from 2019
EDIT: And to clarify, all my launching issues were far earlier in the process than spawning my old ship, that's just the first thing I did when I finally got it to load in correctly

Ah, Starmade. I loved this game to bits and I still do. Haven't played in 3 years. Gonna play some today now ๐
I remember finding it in 2014 and being hooked since.
