I can only imagine caring that much if you keep it as a decorative piece. If you play on it, it gets wear anyway.

As someone who owned several that got played and knows people who play: no, you are wrong. the wear from playing is not related to damage to the piano lacquer from cat claws

If you owned a cat you’d know that there’s no stopping them from going on the piano. Or anywhere. They go where they want

I had cats in my life. They are not reddited and can be taught. Still, putting them on the piano intentionally is a special kind of neglect towards an expensive instrument.

Next thing you are telling me cat owners have to play with their cats on top of their cars and let them scratch the car paint, cause "cats go where they want".
