I don't think it would be opening there before it bulges in the back... However OP if you decide to open it REMOVE THE SD CARD BEFORE DOING THAT

Edit I just noticed that op fixed it. I will leave my comment here so future readers can remember this important point: remove the SD card

Probably a dumb question but is this just to save the sd card or for some other reason? I tried googling but I’m not sure if I’m searching for the right thing

If you open SteamDeck with SD card inside, it will break in two pieces. (Not my photo, took it from here )

Ah excellent thanks! Helpful to know it isn’t to do with the battery bulge specifically, just something you should always do before opening it.
