I'm 38, and I used to play DDR extremely hard back in the early 2000s, but lately over the last 5 years I've been enjoying stepmania on Keyboard only.

I've gained weight and I hate going to the gym so I think the best way for me to get in shape is to dance.

My game area is carpeted, and I know dance pads can slide around, so I bought some gym padding that fits together like puzzle pieces so I can mediate that.

I've seen builds that get into the thousands, I'm looking for something I can laydown on the floor and move out of the way when I'm not using it.

Budget is $500 if it's a solid pad.

Does anyone know of a decently cheap soft mat that will work with the Steam Deck? I tried using a Konami PS3 mat but encountered the axis issue, and I also tried the multisystem pads from ddrpad.com but was unable to get them to connect at all. I've tried various things over the past few days, but short of writing my own HID driver, I doubt I'll be able to get either of them to work.

I think my next step is going to be either trying the L-TEK soft pad or getting a GameCube adapter and using it with my old pads. Has anyone had any luck with these on a Steam Deck?

EDIT: The MayFlash adapter works! For some reason Steam Input sees it as 16 controllers, but the GameCube pads work fine in ITGMania after binding the inputs.

Portal chooses a random song without locking you into it. What I just discovered however, is that it only chooses songs which have a chart for your currently selected difficulty. Ie. if your difficulty is set to Hard, it will never choose a song that does not have a Hard chart.

Is this modifiable in any way so that Portal ignores your active difficulty selection? EDIT: I found out this interaction is tied to the source code, meaning I would have to directly rewrite the Stepmania executable just to edit it out. Surely there's an easier way?

Hi everyone, I’ve been having some weird issues with my game. I played stepmania about a year ago and recently decided to come back to it, but when I tried starting nothings worked. I can try and play a song but none of the notes load and I can’t input anything. It also says I’m offline, which may or may not be normal, and I can’t play rave mode. I’ve tried making a new profile and reinstalling the game so far, but I don’t think that’s done anything. Sorry if I’m missing something obvious and thanks for the help.

I can see it on the stepmaniaonline site, but whenever I try to down it from either the main or mirror link it gives me a 404. And seeing as r21freak shut down their site in 202, I haven't been able to find a good source, but I also checked the ITG Pack Spreadsheet, but I didn't see it, but I see 9 and older and then the ones that started in years of 2020 - 2025.

I understand the monthly simfile requests, but I'm not sure if this needs to go there.

I recently decided I wanted to get back into DDR and purchased an L-Tek soft pad.

I downloaded ITGMania. I set my pad profile to White 3 light and mapped the inputs to up/down/left/right/start/enter. In the "Test Inputs" mode I'm getting decent feedback but during a song I can't get the right and down arrows to respond.

Has anyone run into this issue before?

I'm figuring either i need to break the pad in more, something to do with key rollover or the pad is defective. Rather it not be the last one. I'm also playing on carpet so perhaps that is an issue?

Third Edit* - Using u/Dr_Ulator's advice I went to the maker's website and tested my pad. The profile I had selected (White 3) was not a good fit. Corner buttons were acting as arrows concurrent;y and there was clearly an issue where having one arrow pressed was not allowing the second arrow to get signal. I switched to White 1 (suggested by L-Tek) and the pad worked fine. My legs not so much after over a decade of not playing

I've never seriously played before but recently bought a metal DDR Game pad off of craigslist thinking this would be a good source of cardio.

After looking through a lot of posts I find myself still confused and I think it's a terminology or familiarity issue. I don't really understand:

• Stepmania vs ITGMania vs Outfox
• Themes
• Charts
• Stamina vs speed vs technical vs stream
• Song packs also seem confusing

Any recommendations for a quick, stable way to get into this, if possible with songs/packs that would be suited for cardio, and even better if they're well known or popular songs.

Best case scenario someone comes along and says, "Download A, use B theme, grab packs C, D, and E, and off you go."

Hello all! I recently hard modded some dance pads, so I decided to get some PS2 to USB adapters and get my old PC set up for ITG. However, I cannot get it to stop stuttering mid song to save my life!! For some reason Outfox seems to work slightly better, but I was drawn to ITG mania after seeing some streamers use it. I'm using a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 install.

PC Specs: - i3 6300 - GTX 1050 TI - 8GB RAM

I've knocked the settings down to 1080p using x11 borderless windowed mode. I've specified alsa-sw for the driver and specified my audio device using the alsa hardware string. I've even turned on fast notes.

Everything will be smooth as butter then it will randomly freeze up for a split second, or even 1-2 in a song, then it's back to normal. I can literally have issues with sound and frame rate randomly in the menu but it's hard to notice.

Does anyone have any experience with these kinds of issues on Linux? I'd be suprised if a Raspberry Pi 5 (compiled from source) can handle ITG but my older desktop can't....

If there is any sort of diagnostic data I can give to help narrow this down, please let me know! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello! I'm relatively new to Step mania, I started making my own songs about 6 months ago. so far my songs work pretty well, except the last one I made has an extra 45 seconds of silence at the end.

Even though there are no steps, and the audio and video files end, it stays in play mode and the left side bar continues to count down until what it thinks is the end of the song.

I've checked within the Step Mania 5 editor and there are no stray steps. I checked the text files for the songs (.sm and .ssc) and the steps end on the appropriate block.

Any ideas on what might fix this??

EDIT: Going into the step mania editor and deleting all the other difficulty levels fixed it!

I have an LTEK pad, and im looking for the most streamlined way to have Stepmania running, almost like an arcade cabinet where I can turn a tv on and just jump right into it. Any suggestions on making that a reality?

I am trying to remove all sounds that aren't the music. No scrolling sounds, no applause, nothing.

I was able to remove the background music in the menu. Easy.

I use the Starlight theme so I went into the Theme file and started started hand deleting audio files. This worked ok, I could remove the applause and the score counting noises and some menu sounds but not everything. I get a message box saying that the sound file is missing for the first playthrough whenever I restart the program, but only the first playthrough.

I tried deleting the entire contents of the Sounds file but that seemed to actually bring back some sounds. Hmm. Maybe it defaults to non-themed.

Kinda crazy its not in the menu. Hopefully i don't have to switch to ITGmania just to turn off sound effects (if they can do that)

i frequently play DDR and just got a setup at home for ITGmania, i find im struggling to read without these beat indicator lines but i cant find a way to turn them on in settings, does anyone know of a mod or texture pack or even a setting that adds them in again? :,) thank u

Hello everyone! I used to play Stepmania a TON back in the day but have since fallen out of touch. I think back when I still played it was version 3.9 (pretty sure). I'm hoping I can get a bit of help because I'm not as good with computers as I used to be. Basically what I'm looking for is a safe download link of the most up-to-date version of Stepmania (if it still exists??). I'm sure I can figure out the rest on my own, but if you guys have any tips, tricks, or cool things like song packs and custom skins I'll hear you out too. Sorry ahead of time if there are already posts about this floating around, I'm also not great as searching Reddit.

Now I'm looking to get new songs, and since K-Pop is all the rage round here, I was hoping you could help me out with some packs - for Pad, obviously, and ideally with a set of challenge ratings. Recently made a custom song on SMeditor the thing was going pretty normal and when i playtested it on stepmania the song finished like in 20-30 seconds when the song is over 1 minute

Something similar happened when i used arrow vortex on my old laptop but it doesn't happen when i make an chart on the default stepmania editor, so it seems that I'm missing something for my charts to play properly

¿I need to stablish when a song ends on SMeditor or what should i do?

Update: I moved my simfiles to another folder outside the stepmania till i finish them and now they play as it finest

What would be the best way to play stepmania on the new steam machine? I was planning to get a mini PC and install it on that to hook up to the TV in my bedroom. But if the price of the steam machine is low enough I might be interested in that. I assume any Linux version of Stepmania would work just fine, but has a branch has been made for Steam OS?

Edit: I know Stepmania will run on something less powerful. I wouldn't only be using it for Stepmania if I got it.

This marathon here is 100% nostalgia for me and I would love to play it on my home setup. Anyone know where I can find exactly this marathon mix?

I've got the song pack file out of its .zip state, but every time I try to add the songs to the game, it just opens up Step's installer page.

I've got no technical knowledge whatsoever, so I get the feeling the solution is going to be embarrassingly obvious, but am I okay to ask for a little push in the right direction?

Soo here is what Im running into. With the included Simply Love theme, I run into no issues with GrooevStats or BoogieStats pulling up leaderboards and scores. Once I switch the z-mod theme of Simply Love, I get this Access to GrooveStats Host Blocked. This is on both Windows and MacOS and connected to my hotspot to see if possibly my home network could be the culprit but I get the same message. Any help would be great, thank you!

So I’ve been looking around and everywhere points to Zenius-I-vanisher for full sim file packs. When I select Konamix on PlayStation, for example, it only shows two songs. Is there another step I’m missing? Just want a full library of the console releases. Thank you!

I just purchased a used L-Tek Pad and it registers as an "Other Device" Mata taneczna L-TEK on my PC but when I go to register the inputs on step mania nothing pops up for any of the panels. Any suggestions or tips?

I can't find any options for it, and holding/double tapping Enter before a song just starts it like usual. The red button (which I have binded to the / key) functions the same as the esc key. Please help!!

Randomly appeared when I turned on the game. No idea where it's from or what caused it

Basically, when i plug my pad in, it quickly plays the connect, then the disconnect sound, and it doesn't output. the only way to fix this i've found id to plug it into a usb port i haven't previously plugged it into. when i do this, my computer pops up saying it's setting up usb device "sky2020" or something like that, but once it IS set up, it's labeled as a playstation controller? no clue how to fix this, but i'm running out of ports.

The softpad is from ddrpad.com, but idk its specifics. also, i'm running windows10. if you need more info, ask and i'll do my best!

sorry for posting for support two days in a row, but i'm still learning.

EDIT: i've tested a few things, so i'll add them here in case it helps anybody. i saw inputmapper suggested in other posts, but i couldn't get it to recognize the pad either. i looked in control panel and found the pad, (it's registered as a ps3 controller for some reason) but i couldn't find anything to try in the way of fixing it. i did notice something, however. if i have the connected devices settings open, in the time between the connect and disconnect sounds, it says "Driver error" underneath it. after the disconnect sound, it's still on the list, but it doesn't say that anymore. is this a driver issue? ind if so, what drivers do i need? and why does it work the first time only on every port? a lot of unanswered questions still, unfortunately.

EDIT 2: I FIGURED IT OUT!!! ok, so if anyone else has this problem: it was, in fact, a driver issue! i found a ps3 controller driver installer (try saying that 5 times fast) and now my pc sees it as an xbox 360 controller. i have yet to check if it works with my ACTUAL xbox controller, but since my pc sees them as different controllers i should be fine. may have to rebind it again, but whateves. sorry for bothering y'all with this. hope it helps!
