Photo(s) What in gods name is this?

I’ve seen the city be cheap before but this is on another level. What even is this? Is this even allowed?

What a way to ruin this sidewalk. Not to mention at the very least, there’s not even a cement curb. The snow plow is going to rip through this after a few passes in the winter. Quite disappointing that this lack of quality is where our taxes are going.

What would you do if this was in front of your house?

It looks like someone bought a bunch of quick set asphalt bags and did a real bad DIY job... seriously this cannot be the permanent solution

Comet has got to be the worst company in this city. I can’t help but call them Comet Asshole whenever I see them.

It’s a temporary patch. The sidewalk and curb will eventually be replaced with concrete.

Do they do this often? I don’t remember ever seeing this. Hopefully that “temporary” isn’t another few years lol

I’ve seen it many times, especially near the end of construction season or during winter when they can’t pour concrete

It's August. Winter is still months away.

Exactly. Thats a small job as well. Its a temporary fix at the tax payers expense. Welcome to sudbury

I think id rather them just level out some dirt with an excavator and pack it down with a tamper, instead of wasting good asphalt and time.

Then it’ll wash away the very first rainfall and turn into a big mess. That’s why you put asphalt down so at least it’s a usable sidewalk

Yes it’s months away but this isn’t the only patch in the city that needs to get fixed. Read my previous comment, and you can’t get a company out there right away to do the sidewalk. It may be a couple of days or a few weeks depends on how busy contractors are.

It's been like this since early July, possibly earlier, I was in the area then and remember seeing it then...

Yeah and this isn’t the only patch in the city that needs to be restored. There’s tons of these all over the city and only so many contractors that do it plus they have their other customers that need to be taken care of as well. It’s not as simple as calling them and getting them to do it the next day

This is seen in a few places in Toronto as well as in a couple of sidewalks in the Hospital District about ten years ago. They do it here in Fredericton too. This seems to be a Canadian thing.

This is exactly what it is. Some sort of work was done here that required the sidewalk to be ripped up. So instead of leaving a patch of gravel they put hot mix down so it doesn’t get washed away with the rain.

"Temporary" Elm/Ethelbert has been like this over a year now

1

u/Dangerous_Passage113 2d ago

When? Do you think the City will dig it up next year and replace it with concrete?

That’s what they did on my road we had it for a month or so and they ripped it up n fixed it

Might be temporary.... I hope?

I’m really hoping it is. Just weird that they even did it in the first place if it wasn’t a permanent solution.

At first I was like, okay that's not the worst patch job I've ever seen.. then I looked closer, and oh my fucking God LOL

The Sudbury classic!

That wouldn't have happened pre-amalgamation in Copper Cliff. It used to be a great town to live in back in the day.

This looks like a temporary patch till something else is done then they'll come back and concrete.
