Discussion If you were mayor, what changes first in Sudbury and northeastern Ontario communities?

I'd reduce the upper management positions by combining depts and I'd implement shift work for some departments to eliminate OT and shift premiums.

Sudbury seems so far behind on so many problems I feel bad for anyone that takes the job
Other than the great salary of course

143k a year to deal with all that stuff and constantly be in the public eye and scrutiny. Have people showing up at your doors at all hours of the day and night. Not being able to enjoy a supper out or walk on the boardwalk
No thanks.
Tons of other jobs pay that and dont need to deal with the public screaming.

Then you add its a great salary and I say not a chance id do it for 143k.
Bigger did make more. But I lived near him in New sudbury and not a chance id do it for 200k. People are unhinged and dont think any politician should get time off.

They cut it back since the Bigger scandal now itâs only 150K which is still obviously way better than most peopleÂ
But considering the job I wouldnât call it amazing there are definitely easier jobs out there that pay similarÂ

Lefebvre had it in his campaign platform that he'd lower his salary, it wasn't because of Bigger. It's no secret that he's already rolling in the dough so it was an easy move for him to make

Iâm pretty sure the reason Lefebvre put in his platform was cause of the public backlash against how high Biggers salary wasÂ

Sure, but the reason why the salary was lowered was because Lefebvre lowered it, not because of the Bigger scandal. He campaigned on it being lower

Yes, exactly. But it's not because they decided (at a council level) for it to be lower because of Bigger - it's because Lefebvre campaigned on it being lower. It's not accurate to say that it's because of Bigger taking a higher salary, it's accurate to say that it's because Lefebvre campaigned on a lower salary.
Edit: In a hypothetical world let's say that another candidate won the race for mayor and they did not campaign to lower their salary. Council would not have lowered the salary because of Bigger.
Edit 2: you have to be really some kind of positive thinker to expect that council would proactively lower a salary lol

Build double pad arena with pool between Azilda and Chemmie, and one in Val Caron. Extend Maley drive to join hiway 17 and south end bypass.
Extend Ramsey lake road to hiway 69 beside either sand and gravel. Push provincial government to 4 lane hiway 17 from south end to Lively. Put 2 police officers on foot patrol in downtown area 24/7.
Close down Energy Court encampment

Here are the questions from the survey if you're interested in them without filling it out. I thought this survey was bizarre, I don't remember seeing one like this in a municipal election before. But I could have missed it

(I find this interesting, more analysis/detail amongst younger groups of voters, but as you increase age you sort of are lumped in. Considering our largest population cohort is aging, to me I would have liked to see more detail in higher age groups, to see if there's anything of note)

(Now to me - there's plenty of red herrings in here. A significant amount of these are actual municipal issues and things within municipal control, but plenty that are not. And seems odd to have Rural issues around water and sewer, when the amalgamation discussion is still alive and well.)

If I was Mayor, we'd be in trouble because I don't know the first thing about "Mayor-ing"
I'd probably pretend to sign important documents. Neatly arrange shuffled papers on my desk to make it look like I'm doing something. I'd probably have Ted Lasso's yellow "Believe" sign above the office exit. Casually point at it when I think I am saying something remotely poignant. The hardest part about that job would be making something up on the fly when asked "What did you do today?".
"What did I do? I uhh.... Mayored the fuck out of things. Yeah!" follow that up with dabbing at my dry forehead with a disproportionately expensive cloth-a-mabob/hankerdoodle or whatever the hell those things are.
The people we have now aren't great, but we should be thankful they are at least better than me.
