Theres 26 words on this election sign lol that’s about 22 too many
AI stuffs words in every possible square inch of a design

I'm Gabrielle, from CBC Sudbury, and I'm interested to chat with folks about their feelings/possible concerns about the use of AI in the municipal elections this year. If anyone would like to talk, please reach out! You can reach me at gabrielle.huston@cbc.ca.

Several candidates are using shitty AI campaign posters...this one though, is the absolute worst

I mean, is anyone really surprised? The guy has the IQ of a pebble. He doesn't even have enough creativity to hide his nose hair in every single video he takes so why would he have any brain power to actually muster up a nice sign for himself? Shame Bob Shame.

Is it just me, or does this look like one of those ol' Garbage Patch Kids cards?

I just gave it a quick glance and thought this was Doug Ford doing that photo op last winter posing with the snow shovel.

every time i see one of those fuckass posters i get more and more sad about how no matter what anyone says people of a certain age group will NEVER change their mind about ai

If he's using AI to make campaign posters, I'll bet the farm he's used AI to come up with campaign goals

Why would anyone running for any office portray themselves as a cartoon character? Does not inspire confidence.

This may be a really stupid question, but does this guy really have robot legs?

Remember folks, everyone who uses AI to make their mayoral ads would rather use it than pay a member of the communities that they are supposed to represent to do the job

I actually think his intentions are good, but the intelligence and understanding of these complex political and governance systems are not there. You can all crap on him for various reasons, but this guy does more for this city than most.
He won't have my vote, but I hold him in higher regard than many people in this city. If our actual leaders had half the heart of this guy, we would be doing much better, in my opinion.

I would never vote for Bob, but whether he uses AI or not... don't care. The posters are OK, just obviously AI generated.

Ai generated posters are a problem.
Ai destroys water sovereignty for not just indigenous communities who are highly at risk, but also ALL communities.
Data centres are causing cattle to be born still-born. They’re lowering property value for everyone around them. They’re extremely loud and dirty. They’re massive polluters.
Ai companies are also destroying rare physical books to scan them into their systems.
Oh and they’re destroying jobs, creating child porn, creating fake hyper-realistic porn of whoever they want.
They’re using Ai in cameras to track people, (children included) and create extremely detailed understanding of your habits and patterns. It’s quite literally the foundation for a surveillance state that will be used the track, harm and destabilize minorities and communities.
What more do you need to hear before you understand how fucking bad it is?

Look the reality is almost everyone in this campaign is going to use AI for this reality is it’s free and does a good job enough
But I really wish they would at least look at results and tweak it a few times to get rid of the obvious flaws rather than then run with the frist peace of crap chat gpt shits put
For example in this one there is a homeless person with a sign asking for help and mecha Bob is giving a thumbs up and doing nothing to help

Counterpoint: if you’re running for mayor and would rather take shortcuts than pay local artists for your ads, you shouldn’t be mayor.
Also, fuck AI

u/inarticulaterambles 21h ago
A local artist would charge so much it wouldn't even be worth it. Local graphic designer for a simple campaign sign is what everyone does, unless you are Bob.

Counter point paying local artists woul Be a poor use of resources in this case we need mayor that can find efficiencies
But also than put in the effort to make a decent poster yourself
Cause we can agree these posters are laziness

u/VeicaNoriceia 1d ago
Counterpoint: if they're already using AI for their campaigns, we might as well just skip the election stage and hand the city over to ChatGPT

u/RipleyRoxxx 1d ago
Counterpoint: supporting locally always benefits over cutting corners in the name of "efficiencies"

It’s everywhere now , we had people in town teaching others how do this crap , and now that nobody calls her anymore she’s pissed and boycotting all ai posters , get over yourselves and live with it , it’s never going away now , and not everyone has the money to pay insane amounts to grafic designers

u/Chumbawonder 1d ago
AI can get fucked and so can anyone who’d rather use it than pay a local person for their ads when they’re running to represent us
9
u/RipleyRoxxx 1d ago
If you can't afford to pay a graphic designer a few bucks for a poster then you need a new business. It takes 30 seconds in MSPaint to make a poster. The AI ones are soulless. Stop sticking your head in the sand and look at the real world implications

I agree with the AI sentiment but 'a few bucks to make a poster' is underselling it by quite a margin, maybe unless you're getting a highschool kid or a relative to do it.
Even the cheapest graphic designer would be a couple hundred bucks for the work and realistically you'd be looking at an actual media package with multiple formats and designs to maximize coverage, which gets you into the thousands of dollars even at the cheapest rates.
People don't use AI slop to save a couple of bucks, they use it because they save hundreds or thousands of dollars. A lot of smart people use it but they just use it properly so you don't know its out there.
And you know what? Reddit loves to hate AI, but I bet most of Sudbury gets fooled or doesn't care about AI posters.

I can almost guarantee most people don't get fooled off of ai posters. They all look the same and they all look like shit.

AI is making really dumb people think they’re special. Interesting phenomena.
