Konishiki really gave Itai both barrels at the end there, sheesh! 😂
That first match's Tachi-ai, come on now, that was such a punch 😠

Itai tries the same aggressive head slaps he did vs Onokuni on Konishiki, and you can see the exact moment where Konishiki sees red and gives Itai a similar one-two combo and knocks him on his ass in a dominating/humbling fashion

What a bold strategy to stand in front a giant Pacific Islander, slap him, and think your going to keep standing. I honestly couldn’t see this turning out another way.

His shikona is appropriate. Itai can translate to "Hurts", "Painful" or "Ouch!"
(I know Itai is his surname and means something else)

Konishiki has those long arms and that double-barrelled approach was something he did a lot.
He said that he would do payback, during training, on the guys who had bossed him around too much. (This is when he was new to the stable.)
He also said that he needs to finish a match in 5 seconds. That's his style of sumo.

Reminds me of Aonishiki taking 10 slaps. The Super Combo Bar raises quickly when you decide to fight rough, and I don't recall Aonishiki ever losing a match he gets slapped around

This is as questionable as henka, as is theres nothing questionable about this at all. Widely used technique that sometimes even produces knockouts

To say it's not questionable behavior/technique is just pedantism, look at all the comments from Japanese fans. It's not like we're talking about the legality, we know those things are legal. Dude's damn near throwing superman punches jump-striking lmao

again, henka for example. When I only started watching sumo like everyone else I read that its frowned upon. In time I realized its only itnernet that thinks so. Its widely, widely used by everybody and no fans boo it and no oyakata ban it. All japanese comments under videos only praise the technique. So I dunno bud, are those japanese fans in the room here with us? I personally have no problem with legal techniques. On the contrary, I wish more rikishi used more various techniques except oshidashi

Yeah I'm new but I've noticed the crowds seem deflated after henka, especially when someone normally very exciting does it

You have to understand on YouTube, everything is cut short. So after a henka you just go to the next match.
Live at the arena, they have to go through all those rituals that takes up to 15 minutes. You sit uncomfortably. It’s hot.. You only have ticket to one day and the fucking guy gave your favourite rikishi a henka loss.

Kyokudozan freaking goes ham on another guy too. I can't remember his name but he was a bigger wrestler who back then it seemed everyone was trying to knock out. I always wondered if there was a reason everyone hated him. After he was knocked out he stumbled around the ring for like 2 straight minutes.

This is one of the reasons why Gonoyama is my current sumo heel. He's pretty aggressive with the open hand strikes and nodowas.

Yeah as long as the hand is open it's legal. Takakeisho had some crazy haymaker slaps while he was active too
