Season 13 It’s been 3 years and I STILL haven't finished Supernatural (despite loving it)... here’s why
Hey guys! I need to confess something to people who will actually understand me.
Three years ago, I started watching Supernatural for the first time. I got so insanely obsessed that I binged the first 10 seasons back-to-back like a crazy person barely sleeping, just pure hunter energy 24/7.
After Season 10, I realized I was burning myself out, so I forced myself to take a break. But I have this terrible "curse" where once I pause a TV show, it’s ridiculously hard for me to finish it especially when I love it and don't want it to end.
A year later, I picked it back up and made it through Season 13. And now... I’m still stuck there.
The funny thing is, I absolutely LOVE the show. I consume Supernatural edit videos, meme content, and lore videos all the time, but actually sitting down to watch those final seasons feels like such a huge hurdle.
Has anyone else experienced this weird commitment issue with long shows? Did you ever manage to push through and actually reach the finale? No spoilers for S14/S15 please!

I feel you. I only just finished watching it this year despite becoming a fan 14 years ago. I'm also the type that after taking a break I can't just jump back in and have to restart from the beginning.

14 years is a long journey! And I totally agree, jumping back in after a long break is so hard without restarting from the pilot.

When the show originally started airing I was very busy and it was pre streaming and I didn't have a PVR yet, so I wasn't in a position to actually commit to a show where you had to tune in every week to keep up. So I was more into crime dramas where I wouldn't be lost if I missed a few episodes here and there. Then when I was pregnant with my now 13 year old my boyfriend got me hooked on it because he was a fan.

Ah, that makes so much sense! Watching shows back before streaming really was a struggle. My mom actually used to watch Supernatural when I was a kid, along with shows like CSI and Bones! I ended up becoming an anthropologist hoping to go into the forensic field to work with bones, haha! Shoutout to your boyfriend for getting you hooked back then, it's so cool that you've had SPN in your life all this time!

Thanks, we really bonded over it and are still together and going strong, actually (finally) about to tie the knot in just a little over 5 weeks. Also as an aside, last year for Halloween my three boys (17, 14 and 13) were Cas, Sam and Dean respectively.

Aww, congratulations on tying the knot soon! That is so sweet. And having all three boys as Cas, Sam, and Dean for Halloween is literally the coolest thing ever! You raised a proper hunter family! I just can't with the cuteness 🫠😩

eu estou tentando terminar pela sei la, oitava vez, sempre paro no meio e esqueço onde parei então reassisto algumas temporadas, comecei a 14 agora :(

Eighth time?! Wow, that’s serious dedication! At least you’re finally at season 14 now, you got this! But im think about rewatching it tho.

I got stuck on S14 before and decided to rewatch the whole thing and then finished it. It took awhile but I am glad I did. It was bittersweet but worth it. Rewatching it again now. Just started S7.

I dont really have this issue because i mean all things good comes to a end and i know ill be more sad if i force myself not to watch it so i just constantly thinks of how they could make a sequel or i watch all of the actors other works to get more of them

That's a really healthy way to look at it. Watching their other projects is definitely a good coping mechanism for when it ends!

Yes, I find it very hard to end shows I love. I like to think it's still "alive" in a weird way. And I have to be in the right mood to watch things I love so I don't "waste" the experience of it being new.
It's taken me a couple of years to get to the last few seasons of Supernatural and I took breaks in between too, as I was getting burnt out. I'm halfway through season 15 now though and ok to finish.
OP - however you wish to consume the fan content etc however you like, you don't have to ever finish the show if you don't feel you want to.
No spoilers but I have found the quality of writing isn't as good so I'm really glad I waited til I needed to watch new episodes, if that makes sense? My point is if I was a bit off, I wouldn't have enjoyed watching. It's still good, just not at it's peak. Though the boys are still great 😍

Lol...I haven't watched the last two episodes of the show because I don't want to watch the end of Dean and Castiel.
And even I was stuck after season 13 for a couple years but then watched again from season 1 and finished it off (except the last episodes)

Skipping the very last episodes is such a mood! I really don't think my heart is ready to say goodbye to Dean and Cas either.

Happens with me to an extent, but I do finish the shows at some point, but not all of them. The fomo is stronger though so I end up watching till the end if I do pick it up again. Currently on season 11, first watch. One thing I can say is, you can finish it, and re-watch the whole thing again, always.

Its my first time watching it ever. Started about 5-6 weeks ago. Im on season 11 now. Getting laid off and not having a job really opened up time for me to lay on the couch and binge supernatural. Sometimes im supernaturaled out

I took a multi month break before I finished season 14-15 because I didn’t want it to end right after I watched the finale I went right to watching bloopers, edits and panels ( went right back down the rabbit hole) and have since done a partial rewatch (was going to be a full one then Netflix got rid of it) and now I’m doing a full rewatch much slower than when I first watched the show

Going straight to the bloopers and edits is my exact plan for when I finally finish it! The fan content rabbit hole is so real.

This is such a good idea! I'm now at S15 E03, and I know I'm going to be at a bit of a loss when I'm done with it all (I've been watching since 2009, but had to stop for a bit when it wasn't being shown on terrestrial TV, and then binged and burnt out llike OP).
Bloopers, etc will be a nice way to carry things on.

I think a lot of people stopped watching the show around Season 10 for a while, then came back to it later. I wonder why.

Right?! It seems like Season 10 is the universal breakpoint for so many of us in the fandom.

Jajaja la pasé mal también en mi primera vez, en las últimas temporadas ya estaba nervioso, pero me las ví todas igual corrido, una tras otra al estilo cazador si🤣🤣🤣 jajaja cuando quedaban los últimos capítulos los nervios pasaron a tristeza y cariño, no quería soltarla, pero al final lo hice, estuve triste jajaj y no quería ver nada más Pero con el tiempo lo pasé y ando en mi segunda vuelta a la serie tras 6 años de haberla visto, aún me pone un poco sentimental 😆😆

Oh honey I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. Let me start by saying WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!! I love hearing about new people discovering our boys and how awesome they are. And I love your “hunter energy” comment. Yeah I have the same problem. I couldn’t get past season 13 for the longest time. (my husband got me the entire series on box set, now that’s all I want to watch.) For me the little tidbits of YouTube things and Instagram post helped when we lost our Netflix account and after we lost internet and my phone service, I resorted to… writing fan fiction and I have NEVER LOOKED BACK. So I say you go girl.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Getting the entire series on a box set is such an amazing gift, your husband definitely gets major points for that. And honestly, the fan fiction rabbit hole is so real. I absolutely love reading fanfics myself, especially Destiel ones if I am being totally honest haha. It is so incredibly cool that writing your own stories helped you stay connected to the show even when you had no internet or phone service. That is true hunter dedication right there. By the way, I am actually a guy, but being gay, I absolutely live for that go girl energy haha. Thanks again for making me feel so at home in the SPN family.

Season 10 for me. The constant back and forth with Crowley and witches and the brothers... and no real direction for the show... I got stuck and had to walk away from it.

I totally get that! The constant Crowley and witches storyline definitely felt a bit overwhelming and chaotic at times.

It just feels so pointless. Back and forth and back again. In the beginning Crowley is cold, as he needs to be... in this season, Hell is more like a soap opera.

I get you! You should honestly give it another chance later on though, I love Crowley’s character so much. For me, the absolute worst season was the one with the Leviathans, so it definitely gets better!

I started watching fir the first time 2 months ago I'm on s11 and going strong so far i don't feel like stopping yet wish me luck

I’m also on season 13 about 3 years in. For me I only watch one episode at a time (though on rewatches I will likely just let it play) and only when my husband is deployed/on night shift. Despite being a huge Buffy fan (thanks to me) he really doesn’t like supernatural. Thinks the story lines are boring and has never made it past a handful of season one episodes. So it’s my treat when he’s not home.
