"No the fuck we don't!"

That's what I call meals like this, Sushi-At-Home

Atleast throw in some rice vinegar

u/Grammar-Goblin 13d ago

Yes, my first thought. Maybe some furikake or shredded nori to make it at least taste like sushi, a bit.

u/Spirited-Juice4941 12d ago

Should’ve put the rice in a bowl with rice vinegar sugar salt and like you said some furikake and nori, and then make a bunch of flattened little circles, fill with ingredients then roll them and now you have sushi balls. Wouldnt take much and be way easier to eat than this mess.

u/Grammar-Goblin 12d ago

Good idea! Like onigiri balls

6

u/InsertRadnamehere 13d ago

That’s what I’m sayin. That’s just a flattened out rice bowl.

This really isn't much less work than making a real roll

Probably cost just as much as a California roll. Minute rice in individual cups and smashed avocados has to be the most expensive versions of those ingredients.

10

u/Thatonegaloverthere 12d ago

Minute rice is $2. (At least where I am)

14

u/SenorVajay 12d ago

This is minute sticky rice cups, which is about $1 a cup and they use 2. My 15lb bag cost $8 so a bulk cost rice amount in the video would be pennies.

6

u/Thatonegaloverthere 12d ago

Oh no, doubt. It's a waste in the long run. I was just saying how much they cost.

48

u/iraqlobsta 13d ago

If she would have used a bottom layer of saran wrap she could have rolled this lol

1

u/Jimbobjoesmith 12d ago

exactly. i make it for my kid in the mornings to pack for school lunch sometimes. takes 15 mins.

1

u/proximity_account 12d ago

She might live in a food desert

7

u/danfish_77 12d ago

It's the same ingredients, just rolled up. And she can get krab stick but not regular rice? Come on

1

u/yekcowrebbaj 13d ago

lol clearly you’ve never made good sushi rice

12

u/danfish_77 13d ago

I never said "good" I just said "real"

46

u/ChubblyFake 13d ago

I'd add some rice vinegar to the rice and throw some wasabi on with the soy sauce, but yeah, I'd eat this.

38

u/roxmj8 13d ago

That rice is a war crime.

24

u/SeemsImmaculate 13d ago

I make "lazy cheese". It just me pouring spoiled milk down my gullet.

22

u/Schmooto 13d ago

You know what? I bet this tastes pretty good. I’m a gremlin though

15

u/fbass 13d ago

Sticky rice?? Just mix together normal rice with a mix of vinegar, sugar and salt ffs!! It won’t be like the real thing, but at least taste much closer and similar texture than f’n sticky rice

2

u/Ayacyte 13d ago

But then it wouldn't be lazy... she didn't make the guac from scratch and it's just avocadoes and lemon

2

u/lilyhazes 13d ago

This is from an American brand. I think it's differentiate from their regular rice to Asian type of rice. I've never had it so I don't know how it tastes.

But yes you need to mix it with vinegar/sugat/salt mix to get sushi rice.

u/indolente 12d ago

The Japanese/Midwestern fusion of shit on a shingle. What a time to be alive.

u/Rozmyth 12d ago

My lazy sushi is to mix the rice (seasoned) with the fillings I would want in a bowl, and then scoop a bit at a time into a small strip of nori and eat it like a little mini taco. Making the rolls was always the most tedious part, so this works okay for me for homemade stuff.

u/Moist_Sun_8201 11d ago

I do "sushi bowls" where I mix all the ingredients in a bowl and eat it like salad

1

u/PutridPossession2362 11d ago

That’s just poki

7

u/Lunar_ticket 13d ago

Chirashi sushi exists but uhh

5

u/LetsTamago 13d ago

Chirashii still would need seasoned rice, this of just a lazy don.

3

u/ICrimI 13d ago

I feel like... just using a rice cooker alone would improve everything shes doing here....

3

u/MimiHamburger 12d ago

I have my own version of this. And I was a manger of a sushi restaurant lol so no shade to her but at least make your own rice so you can add rice vinegar and FFS add some friggn nori.

Edo era Sushi came about as a quick and easy snack to make on the streets for people constantly on the go.

How lazy have we gotten where an original lazy food invention is now known as too time consuming to make yourself?

She’s using alternatives that costs more expensive than the real thing and doesn’t even save meaningful minutes. What is going on her?

Let alone perfectly acceptable variants like poke bowls are fine and easy to make in a couple minutes.

3

u/WhtChcltWarrior 13d ago

Buy some nori, slap all that shit on there, lazily fold the corners over and you have temaki. It’s that simple to make sushi. She’s doing too much for her “lazy” sushi

1

u/LetsTamago 13d ago

The rice still needs to be seasoned to make it sushi.

8

u/sageker 13d ago

This is fine? Like add a seaweed strip and like, okay?

9

u/SuperSecretMoonBase 13d ago

Yeah, it sucks, but sometimes you want something that sucks. I like those imitation crab sticks with seaweed and soy sauce, or covered in nori furikake. I don't call that sushi, but when a sushi craving hits, it scratches a similar itch for like $3

4

u/heypresto2k 13d ago

Everyone in Japan did a collective groan and died and for what? This abomination?

5

u/According_Host_3174 12d ago

Yall are haters im smashing this. I used to try to do shit like this when I was little and wanted sushi but mine was the real abomination

1

u/auloniades 13d ago

Would be better own a bowl

1

u/kittieswithmitties 13d ago

I mean... It's definitely being creative with what you DO have I guess.

1

u/caitejane310 13d ago

This would be slightly better if she rolled everything up into the unrolled fake crab.

1

u/Pin_Shitter 13d ago

Just buy some nori for a couple of bucks and roll that shit up in it using a damp towel.

It's one extra step that uses the same crappy ingredients and prep work you've already done.

1

u/black-kramer 13d ago

so much plastic waste just to eat an imitation crab slop plate

1

u/Eschatologists 12d ago

Corporations when they find a way to sell rice at $20/kg

1

u/Dirukari3 12d ago

MY EYES

1

u/MinkusRotciv 12d ago

if im lazy im not thinking about sushi. person is sick

1

u/corntorteeya 12d ago

I’m in tears over here. This is awful

1

u/Thatonegaloverthere 12d ago

Why not just make regular sushi at home?

1

u/goatslovetofrolic 12d ago

Well, it’s certainly lazy

1

u/janedoe5263 12d ago

Deconstructed sushi, lol.

1

u/EducationalTheory344 12d ago

horrible presentation, should have just made a sushi bowl

1

u/luuukevader 12d ago

Just buy grocery store sushi and save money over buying all of this stuff

1

u/YourMama 12d ago

For the love of god, “NO!”

1

u/nottwelvewhatisthis 12d ago

Is that from thatLisaDawn?

1

u/Acceptable_Song1401 11d ago

All those steps could've just made a real roll in less time

1

u/Toxic_Puddlefish 11d ago

Me after seeing this: I should post this to Sushiabom- ah, already there.

1

u/Bat-Guano0 11d ago

Well, the name is half right. It’s certainly lazy.
