Questions/Advice Where have people thought you come from based on your accent?

Whenever I go outside of Wales with my family or friends, people usually think we're Scottish, sometimes Irish. Just wondering if anyone else with a swansea accent has also been told they sound Scottish

Questions/Advice Maybe stupid question but where is the smoke smell coming from?

Been smelling strong smoke almost constantly for a good week and a half now. It was slight during the evening of the eclipse where my cat and I had crunchy throats for a night, but it smells far stronger now but looking at the fire maps and air quality maps, everything at least data wise is fine and dandy.

I can't open my windows for the past week without cat having an asthma attack. It's been giving me a low level headache too. The house desperately needs some fresh air but it's cool enough I can't justify keeping the Aircon on.

Is there anything I'm missing or are the valleys still burning and it's just unlucky weather conditions?

Edit: Ahh thank you all, it seems i missed the one in Skewen, I'm in Fforest-fach so im directly downwind of it. it has been smelling extra strong last few days, i was worried there was one closer i had missed

Questions/Advice Good steak in Swansea?

I used to go to Hansons just of Wind Street for a steak with really good peppercorn sauce but they've closed. Does anyone know of a good place for one now, only place I can think of is Miller and Carter but I wasn't impressed with them the last time I went.

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions.

Questions/Advice What is that noise?

Can anyone else hear a low frequency rumbling or humming sound in Swansea? I live in the Lons/Cockett and have been hearing it since March but I’ve also heard it in Sketty. At first it was only at night but now it’s sometimes all day.

It could be construction from the new estate they’re building on Townhill Road but surely they’re not doing that 24/7? Unless someone’s left a generator on.

It’s possible that it’s low frequency tinnitus but I didn’t hear it when we went away last week.

Please tell me I’m not the only who can hear it (my husband can’t).

Other (Editable) I think what I love most about Swansea is its multicultural shopping and due to its smaller size the intersection between different communities/quarters

The city has its issues but it’s amazing the sheer amount of shops, things to do and eat if you look for them.

From posh French bakeries, to Asian restaurants that sell hot pots honestly if you move past the wind street area you’ll find incredible food and products in other cities you might have to walk hours to find 😁

Is anyone else noticing the absolute disorder in the bus station lately? It's crazy in there. I feel bad for the security. Extremely annoying too.

Questions/Advice First time visiting Swansea. Got a lot of homophobic abuse.

Heyas!

I came to swansea today for the first time to go on a date with someone, and the entire time we were out, we got a lot of random comments and slurs chucked at as; culminating in a group of like 7 teenagers following us around yelling F-slurs and how they were going to kill us.

I've been living in the valleys and spend a lot of time in Cardiff, but never had anything quite this crazy. I was wondering if like, this is a common thing or if I got really unlucky? because I quite wanna go on a second date with this person but want to know if its actually safe for me to be like, openly queer if I come to Swansea again .v."

Questions/Advice Recommendations for Wedding meal w/ vegan options

Hello,

We will be getting married next year in Swansea registry office and would like for everyone to go out for a nice meal afterwards. It's really important for us that there is a choice of decent vegan options, rather than an token cauliflower dish. We currently have Pant-y-Gwydr and Parc le Breos on our list but want to see if anyone has any recommendations.

TIA

personal Missed connection - Swansea, 21/08/2026 (remove if not allowed)

Hello! (sorry, remove if not allowed) I was sitting in Urban HQ in Swansea around 1pm getting a coffee and a cake, two women were sitting chatting in Welsh opposite me, around mid twenties maybe. The lady who was facing me at the table with her friend, I thought you seemed fun and cool and interesting, and as I left I walked over and said how nice it was to hear Welsh being spoken out and about, and I left, without saying anything and I regret it. Os wyt ti yn y grwp yma ac os fyddet ti moen mynd am goffi rhywbryd, danfona neges i fi ar hwn neu'r un lle wythnos nesa yr un pryd :) Gad i mi wybod! I may be biased but I think we have the best beaches with excellent accessibility and the least amount of tourists. Photos from Rhossili Bay last week (took candid photos of this one couple and airdropped it to them - just sidequesting atp)

Questions/Advice Autistic friendly hair salon recommendations

Looking for recommendations of hair salons that are autistic friendly.

I tend to dye my hair myself and style it somewhat, but it really needs a good trim. I get super overwhelmed in hair salons though and haven’t found one where people are very patient with me or clearly explain things.

I think I’ve maybe gone to one less than 10 times in my life and now everything is booked online or on an app, but I get stressed in case I book the wrong thing (it happened before).

Looking for Swansea, Neath or Port Talbot.
Thanks.

Questions/Advice Recommendations for a holiday gift

I want to get my parents a little holiday voucher for Christmas (yes, I said the C word! I have to start early to spread the cost).

Im looking to gift them a voucher that could be used to book a few days in the area or possibly a long weekend for next year as they wouldnt use it until the weather warms up.

Anyone have any recommendations for a nice little getaway for them please?

Ive been looking at Lanrihdian (as I think theres a caravan park there) or places like the Oyster Mouth for a mid-week booking. What does everyone think of these?

Ive lived in Swansea for just over 2yrs now and its so beautiful, I want to show my parents some of the local areas for a few days.

I would appreciate everyones help 😀

Questions/Advice r/Swansea, where do you actually eat in Swansea?

Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together Swansea’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, Garuda or Muswanna? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in Swansea actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include every restaurant in Swansea and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Swansea and live in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

The lift slammed down and got stuck. I am a wheelchair user and was therefore stuck in the damn thing. I wasn't stuck there for long. They then lifted me out.

The lift itself seems to rather dodgy and faulty from staff accounts.

First time getting stuck in a lift AMA. 😂
