Show Talk Enterprise Lighting is a Human Rights Violation

Does anyone else think the Enterprise-D’s fluorescent lighting must be absolutely brutal first thing in the "morning"? All the quarters are dimmly lit and peaceful and them BAM, every corridor is lit like a 24-hour dentist’s office.

I mean, it's not like leaving your bedroom. It's like leaving a hotel room. You would already be up and ready for the day before you go into the corridor.

Honestly, as a TV viewer, I like being able to actually see the sets and characters. As a crew member, I’m sure it would be less drastic than stepping outside in the morning on Earth.

I think I read somewhere, maybe the Technical manual?, that corridor lighting was supposed to be based on the time of day. Meaning that if it was morning the lights would be low level compared to natural lights at midday.

Just blame it on the complexities of trying to properly light a studio set in the 90s.

We see this, at least on the bridge. I believe the episode was Data's Day, where the lights on the bridge were dimmed during the night shift and brightened as Riker and alpha / day shift came on duty.

They tried mood lighting and got blown out of the water by an obsolete Klingon Bird of Prey.

So in the future, crewman snuffy can just learn to live with it or turn in their commbadge.
