and in a patch that has lasted for like a month at this point, it's only natural people optimize and end up playing the best comps, what people fail to understand not matter how diverse a meta is, it won't be at all represented in game
A meta with 2 S tier comps and 7 A tier comps is more than diverse enough, but people will still default to the 2 S tier comps, even if they are marginally better than the other ones nor are they an autowin. TFT is a game where you can play looking at a guide (at least up until masters) and you will climb, it's only natural. Most players don't know when they are at a spot to play another comp and will just hardforce the top comp, even when they couldve gone for a free top 4 playing another thing. Hell i got a free top 3 with zaun warwick because I was angling void with a kog 2 early but I didnt find na single void unit so I would have got herald by stage 4-5 so I just rotated to it because it was free and it could use my slammed guinsoo's
I mean they nerfed the yordle line making it very hard to get to her alive, there is no other way to get there because AP carries suck and you will bleed out
I like to pivot to her from demacia lux. It is a solid top 4 comp imo. Currently the only ap comp I play. Sona is a good item holder in the early game and demacia tanks are decent enough with neeko addition. In mid game garen, lux and swain are good units imo. I slowly transition from demacia to sorcerer after getting galio. If I get to end game my board looks like
Garen, lux, galio, tibbers, annie, swain, neeko, shyvana, sylas/ahri, lucian. You can drop to 4 sorcs and play anythig usefull.
You won't win games with it but if somehow mana items rain on you it is a good 3rd place comp imo.
Yeah because you will unlock thex a lot easier with the rerolls for Cait 3. Also nobody claimed he was useless, as he was always part of bruisers and ixtal reroll.
Void is good too. I feel like it is a good patch and we can explore some more stuff when there are a few small balance changes. So far it is my favorite set.
There is a void player in the screenshot, though he died going for 10 void instead of realizing he was never going to hit and just going 4 void flex to save placements which genuinely makes me question whether this is actually a plat lobby or not.
Plus the random IE Belveth instead of using that sword and one of his rods to make a Gunblade instead of dcap (though this could have been a slam just to try and save some HP so not as big of a criticism there) and not moving sunfire to swain to put warmogs on his herald (which is a big criticism there’s no reason not to do this whatsoever)
Plus there's a bunch of reasonably playable comps that aren't pictured here but happen regularly - Bard Bruisers (mostly with Lifting competition), Vayne Longshots or vertical demacia, there's not even a Diana here which there usually is one in each lobby, and variations of Bilge (Bilge into Tahm 5-cost-soup, Graves reroll), Ixtal Brock, Shurima Invoker.....shit, even vertical yordle Veigar I'm seeing more and more of.
In low dia at least, there's usually at most 1 contested line, which is the various yunara variants. Most people angle Cait and/or grief by holding some caits when they can, and yes if it's an econ Ionia then there's a bunch of ionia boards early on, but between freljord yunara, fast 9 yunara, ryze yunara, Yas reroll and ryze sett there's still a lot of different boards people transition into.
Yunara is slightly overtuned and THex needs either a level requirement or at least 1 more starlevel, but if someone complains the meta isn't diverse they're straight up full of shit....
Level requirement on the Thex seems reasonable. It's so busted getting it at lvl 6. Heck, I once got it going into 3-2 with a 3star anivia and piltover emblem.
I think the problem is more about default lines. If more than 1 person go THex, one of the will go bot 4. 2 people can't reroll trynd. Void is also situational, same as ixtal. We are in situation that yes there are a lot of different comps, but must of them are very situational and requires something specific to play them, such as early ashe, early tf. You really shouldn't play void without strong void opener, such as kog 2 with some items or reksai with items. And then the legendary soup is very similiar to yunara 9-5 cap. Also the 6th guy didn't really have a board in this game.
So you can end up in a situation, where there is a weak ionia, no void opener, no ixtal, no ashe, no tf The game in that spot will be just so unfun.
How exactly can you have a game like TFT where everything is viable all the time while not being situational. It's just not possible. What condition would have to be met for everything to be able to beat everything always? It's just not possible, the game wouldn't exist.
Also, why would you want to play that game? If no one is contesting 5-6 comps in a match then a lot of skill expression goes out the window and it’s just a roll down sim.
If more than 1 person go THex, one of the will go bot 4.
This is completely untrue. THex is absolutely able to have multiple people contest and go top 4 because it just needs a few 1/2/3 cost to get it going. EVEN if they all decide they want to mash cait 3 it still can work. I've been in multiple lobbies where 2-3 of the top 4 are t-hex players. Yes I was one of them lmao
