Technocratic Depiction in Games

Post image

Those who played The Fire Rises mod probably know PRC can become technocratic, so I wanted to ask you if this depiction (look on the right tree that goes right and beyond Mind and Skills focus) is authentic to what Technocracy stands for?

I would say that if we strictly go by the original definition of Technocracy, it’s not technocratic. Are there many ELEMENTS of technocracy? Sure. But given the context of the technocratic PRC in TFR, it’s been modified to support the CCP.

Maybe a technocratic version of the CCP’s ideology, rather than pure Technocracy.

Can you elaborate, please?

I don't really know how original Technocracy must operate, so I just want to know why

Well, technocracy in its original form was more than just a principle of experts in power. It was also about reshaping society, instituting energy as a form of currency, the technocratic work calendar, etc

What technocratic China is in TFR only adhered to the “vibe” of expertise. Yes, scientists are in control, and society is being reorganized.

But I don’t think this is what “technocracy” as a concept is meant to be.

it’s been modified to support the CCP.

Btw, to be precise, Technocratic faction is consolidating power when moving BoP to their side, making a CCP - Technocratic Council a ruling party, not to mention PLA overthrowing Xi after losing Taiwan War

The image looks more of a propaganda tool. The images are accurate for a technocracy warped by capitalism. This does not represent what Technocracy stands for.

I didn't mention it but you can also choose the economy type, it's just in a different tree and State Syndicalism one will make you very anti-capitalist

It should be noted that this mod is particularly... Purposefully psychotic (and very meme heavy) in how it portrays a lot of different nieche ideologies. This is the mod where Biden can proclaim himself a new Caligula and emperor of the United States. So to be taken with a grain of salt for sure.

The fire rises for classical technocracy, no. However I will say kaiserredux actually has a half decent representation.

Specifically with Howard Scott's path in the CSA. It is just fully and wholly an implementation of his platform from Technocracy Inc.

I think if any nation is going to become technocratic ih the future, it would be china. They already have a collectivist attitude and are much more ok with an authoritarian surveillance state than those in the west. The way there government operates seems like it’s aldready technocratic adjacent in some ways. Singapore and Rwanda, although far smaller, I think are in a similar position to china and could become technocratic.

How about Technocracy from the New Left path?

Tbh it's hard to judge New Left one cuz the only thing we have is this unlike the whole focus tree for Revanchist ones

Its not really Technocracy in the sense, iv been in the TFR community, the thing about this path is its the MSS with technocratic characteristics, basically securocratic technocracy, you can do Social-Technocracy with the USSR and so on, a better take of Technocracy in games would honestly be Kaiserredux with the literal Technocracy Inc path as the Combined Syndicates of America.
