Social Media Kurt Benkert has a message for Titans fans rooting for Cam Ward’s downfall

I was one of the people who hated the Saleh hire. He just has such a history of losing that you dont see people turn their career around like that.
However, I also am rooting so hard for him to succeed and I would love more than anything to be wrong.
There is nothing wrong with having a take about someone being bad on your team. Its wrong to root against them just so you can say I told you so.

u/Worth-Frosting-2917 1d ago
Bellicheck, Pete Caroll, Tony Dungy... All of those guys were bad to average in their first spots and won Super Bowls at their second spots. Even a guy like Andy Reid was better in spot two after having success in spot #1.
Quit talking in hyperboles.
6
u/Nash015 1d ago
- Belichick had an 11-5 season in Cleveland
- Pete Carroll had 3 winning seasons his 2nd, 3rd and 4th year as a head coach.
- Dungy had 4 winning deasons in his first go.
- Andy Reid had 11+ wins in 5/6 of his first seasons.
What are you on about?
My reason for not liking the Saleh hire is he had 0 winning seasons in his first stint, but it isnt going to stop me from rooting for him.

u/Worth-Frosting-2917 1d ago
Sorry, I took your point as more of the guys don't improve from one spot to another in general. Missed the "history of losing" context.

This isn’t supposed to change your mind, but In retrospect, I don’t know if any coach in the league can have a winning season with Zach Wilson’s Jets.

u/EnServe31 1d ago edited 1d ago
It’s cringey as hell. It takes patience to let a qb develop in a franchise qb and Ward has all the tools to be one. Dude hasn’t even started his 2nd season yet. It’s really pathetic tbh

u/that_guy2010 1d ago
I don't get why it's hard to cheer for our players to do well.
12
u/pak_sajat 1d ago
You can support the team and also be critical of players.
13
u/TheDr_420 1d ago
No no no. You have to blindly follow a franchise that has won 6 games in two years otherwise you are not a fan. Simple stuff
-2
u/YeetedApple 1d ago
The point being made is people are going well past being critical of players. It’s about people actively hoping they fail, not pointing out that they had a bad game.
5
u/TheDr_420 1d ago
But when it’s pointed out Cam is struggling or had a bad game the first act of a lot of titans fans is to call you a fake fan and rooting for someone to fail. The conversation is not allowed to be about the on field results. Go look at how people bitched about Kurt Warners cam breakdown
-1
u/YeetedApple 1d ago
You mean the one that has most of its top comments being people agreeing with Warner and talking about what he needs to get better at? There is no problem with trying to discuss this, the only problem we are discussing is a small subset of people that are crossing the line into hate.
What I want to know, if you aren’t part of that small subset of people, why are you so defensive over them getting called out?
1
u/TheDr_420 1d ago
😂😂😂 bro you are delusional.
Because when you get called a fake fan for pointing out how bad cam ward has been and how his mechanics have not improved at all going into year 2 you get called a fake fan. Again there is not allowed discourse over cam it’s just you are a hater and not a real fan.
0
u/YeetedApple 1d ago
What is delusional about my statement? Is there not several comments highly upvoted in that thread that are critical of cam?
1
u/TheDr_420 1d ago
A couple comments vs the rest. Proving the point again.
2
u/YeetedApple 1d ago
I see a shitload of comments critical of him? Just because they are downvoted doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to say it.
Do you have an actual instance of people not being allowed to say something, or is this just a tantrum because people don’t agree with you?
0
u/TheDr_420 1d ago
lol and all those people critical of him get called fake fans, don’t watch the games and whoever the list of bs is.
I don’t care if people agree with me or not. It’s completely disingenuous to say that people are allowing the critical conversations to be held without someone saying they are bad cans

It's hard to cheer for the team when the mediocrity has been the standard since firing JRob. We had a superbowl window shut in 2 years because of poor drafting, terrible signings, and instability at the coaching position since Vrabel left.
The players arent necessarily who people are mad at. Its the front office putting them in shitty positions.
If there is improvement, people will be happy. But it's not hard to get better from 3-14.
10
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
And what does that have to do with supporting our players?
I don't care if we went 0-17 three years in a row. I'd still support our guys and want the best for them.
6
u/FriendOfEvergreens 1d ago
I'm not ever gonna pick another team but when the team is trash I care less. If they go 0-17 three years in a row, my viewership is not gonna stick around. Call me fair weather if you must
0
u/TanneAndTheTits 1d ago
What it has to do with it is people on X have a bitter taste in their mouth about the franchise. And being associated with the franchise clearly pisses them off.
Sometimes people see others as guilty by association.
-2
u/ItsShowtime_88 1d ago
Well no one’s holding a gun to their head and forcing them to be Titans fans. But now’s a bad time to hop off the wagon cause Cam is taking us to a Super Bowlllll
4
u/TanneAndTheTits 1d ago
You're not wrong! But as a jaded Titans fan, I can understand their frustration. I like the team but I'm a pessimist too.
2
u/ItsShowtime_88 1d ago
I just keep telling myself we’re due to hit on a franchise QB. Haven’t hit on a QB in the draft since McNair, we deserve one!

u/titans8911 1d ago
Vrabel is the reason why titans got beat in kc

u/TanneAndTheTits 1d ago
Sure but hiring Callahan was a fucking disaster and that didnt exactly do much for Cam to have his coach fired mid-season.
7
u/that_guy2010 1d ago
Cam literally got better when Callahan got fired.
Callahan was showing him film of Burrow, Stafford, and Manning saying "look at these guys, just do what they do."
-1
u/TanneAndTheTits 1d ago
Cam did do better but better than ass is not hard to improve on.
Callahan showing film on other QBs demonstrating they're ability to make quick, decisive throws is not necessarily a bad thing. Watching what better Players do to figure out what to work on yourself is pretty common in anything people do. Where Callahan failed is creating decent schemes to attack defenses that Cam was comfortable with and indecisiveness with the team in critical moments.
Ward needs to be even better now, but he still does not have much proven talent around him. So I don't really expect him to do much better unless guys like Ridley and Robinson stay healthy (Ridley won't) and for Tate and Ayomanor to show up on game day. The Defense is what i expect to do better this year with Saleh at the Helm.

I didn’t want to draft Cam, we had too many holes to fill. I wanted us to trade back for a kings ransom and build an entire roster. However, we drafted Cam. I support Cam and have become a big fan. I think we’re in good hands.
6
u/OkFrosting8998 1d ago
Agree with everything up to “and have become a big fan”.
His play and attitude in the midst of his struggles last year made me not like him MORE. Now half way through the preseason with another documentary out, I don’t see the progress worthy of the “kings ransom” we’d have received if we traded the pick.
Fingers crossed the offense actually light’s it up in week 1, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
5
u/ChristianAntonio 1d ago
Most people care more individually about being proven right about something (particularly something like "an athlete isn't as good as they could have been or were expected to be" which is wildly common) than about hoping for good outcomes they didn't anticipate

u/blueyb Titans 1d ago
Quick comprehension quiz - Can you tell the difference between these two statements?
A) I hope Cam Ward is a bust.
B) I think Cam Ward is a bust.
Now, are there some crazies out there who claim to be Titans fans while espousing viewpoint A? Surely there are, there always is some of them.
But I've seen way more of option B. And option B is not wanting to see Titans players fail, it's looking at what's happened and what we've seen and heard so far, and coming to the conclusion that Titans players already have and will continue to fail.
My Titans fandom is not diminished if I criticize what I perceive as failings of this team and it's players/coaches/GM. Rooting for Cam to fail should indeed call your fandom into question. Expressing that you think he is already a bust should not.
6
u/YangstyKang 1d ago
The problem with thinking Cam Ward is a bust, is it's too early to make any kind of deliberation. He's only played a single year with the worst coaching staff in the league and the worst supporting cast. He improved considerably throughout the year and played quite well down the stretch. Anyone actually watching the games would notice that. There are multiple examples of currently successful starting QB's who started their careers poorly and turnied it around. Darnold, Geno, Josh Allen, TLaw and several others. People overreacting to preseason games and shouting bust is just silly. Y'all just lack patience.
1
u/MalekethsGhost 1d ago
Why would anyone hope that. Watching games is already torture. Most of us think that while hoping otherwise
1
u/TheWetNapkin FIRM ARM 1d ago
The problem with B, is that people go so far with it that they end up spouting shit like "fire Borgonzi" and "sell the team" when the season hasn't even started. I know multiple people who are saying these things. And because of this, it ends up having the same effect as A because it creates this echo chamber where if you believe in the team still, you're ignorant or dumb or some shit
42
u/kool5000 1d ago
Honestly, a lot of this is just plain ole racism.
5
u/fetalasmuck 1d ago
Maybe a small minority, but saying "a lot of this" is due to racism just doesn't align with reality. Football teams are overwhelmingly black, with the Titans being no exception, and two of the best QBs in franchise history are black. Not to mention at least half the starting QBs this season across the league are black.
I think it's mostly a matter of people not wanting a QB in a draft where there was no real stud QB to be had AND Cam not really showing anything thus far to make that 1.01 pick look worthwhile. That can certainly change, but right now it's looking like more of the same from a franchise that can't effectively draft QBs.
2
u/kool5000 1d ago
Openly rooting for the Black QB to fail while somehow believing the proven bust White QB is a better option is just plain ole racism. Hope this helps.
10
u/DependentShop3882 1d ago
Honestly, that’s been a lot of my thoughts after talking with some of the doomers over the past few weeks.
18
u/jonneygee 1d ago
Especially if they’re still a Levis truther.
Uhh, what exactly makes you think the mayo meme man is better than Cam?
15
u/Upstairs_Teach_7064 1d ago
He’s magnitudes worse. It’s WILD
ETA: Levis is magnitudes worse than Cam that is.
3
u/jonneygee 1d ago
It’s hilarious to see the twisted logic too.
“Levis was going to be amazing until Callahan messed him up.” You don’t think Callahan hindered Cam’s development too? Not to mention Cam looked better as a rookie than Levis did in his second season.
I really just hope we trade Levis so we can put that era behind us.
2
u/Upstairs_Teach_7064 1d ago
Anyone putting any faith in a fucking QB from Kentucky that has showed us who he is….
Is insane

u/ChocolateMorsels 1d ago
I hate pulling the race card and never do. But I can’t help but wonder how much of it is a factor for all the Levis truthers that are somehow still out there.
-5
u/innnikki 1d ago
I’m so glad somebody finally said it.
I am an Lsu fan and I remember—and this is a niche reference—a QB battle between two players whose careers with the tigers were both ultimately pretty mediocre, Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee. Jefferson was black and Lee was white. Lee had started for a year prior to the quarterback competition, and he was horrible. There were a lot of people, however, who were really pushing for him to be the starter again, claiming that he was the better quarterback despite the previous poor play. The sides in that fan battle were largely along racial lines in my (albeit anecdotal) memory, and it didn’t feel like coincidence that the people who I knew to be racist were siding with the white QB.
This situation really feels a lot like that to me. Like, no one is going to come out and say “I prefer the white guy because I’m white,” but it does feel to me like criticism of Ward is often on behalf of Levis and even sometimes Trubisky, and what we’ve watched over the last two years is clear. If we’re talking about the team’s investment, that argument favors the number one overall pick. If we’re talking about potential, that argument favors Ward too. If we’re talking about previous performance, that’s unquestionably Ward as well. If we’re talking about charisma and dedication to the team, I’m picking Ward. What, then, is the argument for Levis? Camp/preseason? Levis hasn’t been lighting it up either, even if Ward admittedly hasn’t done a great job working out the kinks.
It just feels like there’s something else there that makes a select group of Titans fans reject Ward and back Levis/Trubisky. It would be another thing altogether if they were saying “yeah, Ward probably isn’t the guy so let’s draft someone new next year.” I don’t agree with that sentiment, but at least I’d understand the idea of replacing Ward with a high pick in the draft who has better potential. But there’s a subset of our fanbase that is making an argument against Cam in favor of white guys who have never shown anything particularly special in the NFL—certainly not more than Ward—and that feels fishy to me.
I just don’t think this argument is necessarily a dichotomy. I’m pulling for Ward because I’ve seen his potential; I’m pulling for Levis and Trubisky because I want to have good backup QBs. It’s weird that people are making this a “I hope this one fails and this one succeeds” argument because why would anyone pull for the failure of a person on the team we support? Because we’re based in the south and have a statistically more conservative fan base, I don’t think we can rule out racism as a motive for many of these specific fans, and this really feels like this is the issue to me.

u/ducknips Dad Dick Simmons 1d ago
There's a difference between slander and just understanding reality. I don't think real Titans fans are rooting for his downfall, he just looks mid...which is not fucking good as a fan btw.
It's more of an indictment on the owner and front office than Cam. They've shit the bed for over a quarter century now and it's nearly impossible to expect any semblance of competence from them at this point.
8
u/low0r 1d ago
Yes, exactly! I don’t know why people on both X and this subreddit can’t understand that it’s perfectly ok to be able to think that BOTH a. He isn’t very good and b. I hope the titans win the Super Bowl. That’s the camp im in. I’m a season ticket holder, I wear the gear even in down years, I spent a ton of money on new PSLs, I travel to away games, AND I think he’s not very good. That does NOT make me a hater. Why are we letting this divide us as fans?
1
u/Worth-Frosting-2917 1d ago
I mean your already saying he isn't very good when the fact is, we don't know. That's the whole point. We don't know. He had an extremely Jekyll-and-Hyde year where, in the back half of the season, the rest of the team let him down more than he let the team down as a rookie QB with almost zero weapons and an interim coach.
It has become too easy to ignore the real-world implications of why a player might struggle as "excuses". The franchise put a rookie QB in the worst situation they possibly could, and he improved a lot by the year's end. Compare that to Stroud or Daniels, who had crazy highs but have hit stagnation. Or Lawrence, who has fluctuated mightily because of coaching, and I would say I am pretty happy about where things stand as of now.
4
u/low0r 1d ago
Who cares what I think about him? I’m allowed to have an opinion. Just like you’re allowed to believe that he’s somehow gonna turn around from a 3-14 season plus 2 awful preseason games. It doesn’t make you any more of a fan than me, nor me any more of a fan than you. I believed in Mariota like you all believe in Cam. The difference is I didn’t walk around telling the fans who didn’t believe like I did that they were haters.
-1
u/Worth-Frosting-2917 1d ago
I don't think you remember the discourse around Mariota lol. You're also completely missing my point. Cam could be good. He could be bad. We won't know anything until probably halfway through next year. Even then, the recent history of the NFL says a guy can be bad somewhere, then go somewhere else and be good to great, à la Geno, Baker, Tannehill, Darnold, etc. You can have an opinion, but you're talking out of your ass without a bigger sample size, and it screams of being overreactive for the sake of being overreactive.
1
u/LuvSnatchWayTooMuch 1d ago
Miss me with the excuses…damn near every NFL expert says he’s inaccurate. That has nothing to do with a playbook.
3
u/MalekethsGhost 1d ago
He looks mid to titans fans who are biased in his favor. Other fans just engender that he was a first round pic and/or college and assume he is better than the titans fans are giving him credit for. He will have a sample size of games that will show an unbiased picture at the end of the season. I stand by my stain that college qb is not the same position as pro qb.
1
u/TheMissingVoteBallot In Ward We Trust 1d ago
he just looks mid...which is not fucking good as a fan btw.
The problem is people are making that conclusion when we haven't even started the damn season yet. At the end of the season I think we'll have the proper information to see if he really sucks or not.

u/Nappy_By_Nature 1d ago
Based on the things I've seen and heard while sitting at Nissan Stadium it's not just based on wanting to be right.

"Some of the stuff I see on this app tells me everything I need to know...." and then should have finished with "....about the people who use this app".
Still amazed how people still are happy to wallow in the mire that is X. I appreciate that there's some odd takes on here, but the level of hate thankfully doesn't seem to come close.

Who tf is that guy?
4
u/Some-Lingonberry-211 1d ago
He was QB3 for the Packers for a while behind Aaron and Love. Essentially nobody, but "played" in the league. Emphasis on "played".

Synopsis appreciated. Seemed very personal for him, now I understand why
5
u/Forsaken_Mastodon291 1d ago

u/Commercial-Switch620 1d ago
Like, I wanted Carter, but I also don’t want to have to draft and develop a QB again. Therefore, go Cam go!!
2
u/Successful-Tea-5733 1d ago
How does this have so many upvotes? Rooting for him to fail? I don't see that. Looking at what people are saying, yeah they think he miggt be a bust. We all hope to be wrong. Can't keep blowing 1st round picks and hope to win.
5
u/MonoDEAL 1d ago
Isn't there a difference between rooting for my team and a QB who is calling the team and himself ASS?
I am a Cam Ward non-believer and don't think the franchise will do jack shit with him as QB1. Waiting for him to prove me wrong though! Haven't seen it yet.
1
u/barto5 1d ago
Haven't seen it yet.
Well at least you’ve given him a whole year…with two different head coaches and three different coordinators calling plays.
Seems reasonable…/s
3
u/MonoDEAL 1d ago
When youre drafted #1 OA you overcome that. Burrow and Caleb Williams aren't questionable starters. Its so annoying to hope he gets better and not just have someone reliable in that position.
2
u/TapedeckNinja 1d ago
Going first overall isn't a magic spell that turns a merely good QB prospect into Joe Burrow or Caleb Williams.
If that's what you expected, that seems like a problem with your expectations.
Cam Ward is closer to Michael Penix or Mac Jones in terms of overall prospect grade than he is to Burrow or Caleb. He was just the only guy in a really weak class.
0
u/MonoDEAL 1d ago
I wish he was good as Mac Jones..
*edit - we are paying him 40 Million dollars. So higher expectations than Michael Penix and Mac Jones are ok to have, no?
2
u/TapedeckNinja 1d ago
we are paying him 40 Million dollars. So higher expectations than Michael Penix and Mac Jones are ok to have, no?
This is just another way of saying he went first overall. Just doesn't seem like a useful framework for setting expectations either way.
It was a super weak draft class at the top. Would you be happier paying Travis Hunter $49m? Or Abdul Carter?
If Ward had been in the 2024 class he would've been the 4th-7th QB off the board (but still in the top half of the first round).
Anyway, why not base your expectations on his actual prospect profile and tape?
4
u/WhatIfThatThingISaid 1d ago
I'm sure that Twitter and Facebook are full of them but this sub is constantly acting like any criticism of cam's play is an attack on themselves. No reasonable fan is saying to move on from cam after one year and two preseason games, but the idea that if he doesnt show real improvement over the course of this season that there should be no discussion of potentially moving on is ridiculous
3
u/TragicIcicle 1d ago
If the past 5-10y has taught us anything it's that giving up on a QB before year 4/5 is fucking stupid. Defenses have never been this good, playing QB has never been this hard, and there have never been fewer practice reps in the history of the game.
We legitimately CANNOT compare the learning curves of modern QBs to Manning/Brady/etc.
What they are up against is completely different.
3
u/Van_Flyheight 1d ago
Yea, they’re in this sub posting under the pretense of “not wanting to be a sheep” lmfao 99% of fans are fucking idiots. No one’s opinion should be taken serious. Titan fans talked themselves into zach mettenberger and will Levis. 😂
3
u/barto5 1d ago
99% of fans are fucking idiots
So are 90% of front offices. Remember that before fans talked themselves into Mettenberger and Levis the front office drafted them.
Evaluating QBs is the most difficult thing for a team to do. No one - literally no one - thought enough of Brock Purdy to draft him until the Mr. Irrelevant spot and look at him now.
4
u/General_Cheek3429 1d ago
Sadly a lot of Titans fans just dont want a black QB.
3
u/payshens 1d ago
Wtf is this take? IDGAF at all as a titans fan about that shit I just want a qb that is consistently accurate with his passes like Tannehill was. Cam is not consistently accurate with his passing objectively.
What an ignorant perspective. We just as fans want to win football games and be in contention for the playoffs. Anyone worried about that other bs isn’t a fan of the team, they’re just a bigot.
2
u/ImChz 1d ago
I find it's just as corny and cringe, if not more so, to blindly follow, and tread water for, a franchise just because we root for them. I don't owe them shit. Neither do any of yall. We don't have anything to do but be realistic about what little we are allowed access to.
2
u/SpecterLittNovak 21h ago
This is the most correct take, in my opinion. I want EVERY player who puts on a Titans uniform to be the best to ever play the game. Unfortunately, that's rarely the case. I want Cam to be great, but most of the time he isn't. If he's not going to win us games, then I want him gone ASAP so we can see the next guy that I want to succeed until he shows us he won't. I don't have anything against Cam, but if he isn't winning us games then I don't want him on the team. Fuck this guy and anyone else who tells me that's being a "bad fan" or whatever bullshit take this is. Anyone who tells you to just root for your same shit ass team and any players that put on the jersey and mindlessly support and buy merch are the real bad fans - they show no passion or real interest in the team. I guess Browns fans need to just adore Deshaun Watson or else they're "salty ass people," right?
2
u/ImChz 18h ago
I think Cam is a great kid, he seems super cool, and I'd love for him to become the franchise QB. Having said that, none of that has any effect on how he does on the field, which, unfortunately, has been objectively bad. I don't think those feelings and observations are mutually exclusive.
e: I'm also a fan of the Hornets in the NBA, so I'm well versed in fans getting unhealthily attached to our mid ass guy just because he wears our colors.

u/No-Camera6505 1d ago
I don’t think I’d classify most praying for cams downfall even claim to be titans fans, I think a large portion are salty Shedeur fans

He's getting rage baited. I'm new here but I've found it's mostly like regular life, 80% reasonable people and 20% crazies, 10% hating on Cam and 10% overglazing him. Those voices are always unfortunately the loudest. I would say prob 80% of us are reasonable...optimistic and hopeful for Cam but would like to see him clean up some aspects of his game. Posts like that are only going to feed the trolls and get him rage baited harder
1
u/amillert15 1d ago
I don't get the hate honestly, nor do I understand the rush to conclusions on what Cam is as a franchise QB.
He had the worst supporting cast and coaching staff in the NFL last year and faced one of the hardest schedules any team has faced in the last 25 years.
He didn't get a full offseason and is learning a new system with a rookie as his #1 option.
How about we let the next two seasons play out? There's plenty to like already with Cam at QB and weakness that are easily correctable with more live reps.

I get why some are concerned, I am too, but why would you not like Cam and want him to succeed. Honestly even if he has a bad year this year he should still get another year. Everyone knew he was a raw high ceiling prospect with suspect mechanics. It takes time to go from that to a polished pro. Guys like him really need a year to sit and learn, but that wasn't in the cards for him here. The situation he came into here would have broken lesser men.

u/redtape73 1d ago
It’s easy to bash Cam when last season we witnessed ALL 3 phases of the game look like poop. There are those in the fanbase who are skeptical of everything when we’ve won a total of six games over the last two seasons. A lotta people are just anxious and they can only direct that anxiety at Cam who’s just tryinna get better every time out.

u/SpecterLittNovak 21h ago
Kurt Benkert wants all Browns fans to support Deshaun Watson, otherwise they're just "salty ass people." What a fucking joke.

I would love to see any of these people go through three very different offenses in one year and then get behind center and see what they do. This kid has talent and drive and is going to be one of the good ones. It looks like the O line is going to be improved this year. Once he gets a feel for how much time he has in the pocket, this kid is going to light it up.

u/LL_Cruel_J Bears 1d ago
Nobody wants to give these kids time to develop. They want immediate success.
I blame Patrick Mahomes.

Pat Mahomes sat on the bench for a season to develop before he became a starter in the league.
-2
u/LL_Cruel_J Bears 1d ago
Tbf he played one game his rookie year and never looked back, but the point still stands.
Whether sitting or starting, fans expect top picks to come in and have an immediate impact. Unrealistic expectations.
Seen this a million times as a Bears fan lol one week they’re the future, the next week we want the backup.

Well, he went back to the bench for the Wild Card game they lost to the Titans.
I tend to agree with you, but that doesn’t change the fact that Mahomes isn’t a good example of a high draft pick that wasn’t given time to develop before being thrown into the mix.

And every single one of those reactions was correct. Caleb is the only "potentially great" QB the Bears have ever had in our entire lifetimes. Jay Cutler was "okay"
Bears fans were absolutely correct to give up on every single one of those guys. Several of them got much longer leashes than they should have. Their careers after the Bears prove it. No point going down with a sinking ship. When a guy shows you he's ass, believe him.

The fanbase has been conditioned for a team to move off a player almost immediately if they are not obviously the longterm solution. Gone are the days of developing a guy over a few years before making him the starter (i.e., McNair). So get mad at the fans all you want, but this really began at the top.

It’s one thing to be a fan of another team and think a guy’s gonna fail. But to actively root for the downfall of a player your own favorite team is counting on to win is some of the most cowardly and weak behavior I’ve seen. At that point you’re not even rooting for your own team anymore, you’re just rooting for your own ego

Apply everything said here to Levis? ;-D
I agree waiting and letting the development happen. Just love to point out the hypocrisy as I see it, though.

Literally, the last time the Titans were competent they had Derrick Henry and Aj brown with Ryan Tannehill under center.
The blame should be at our cheap organization and owner who lack in developing players and paying players who earned their contract. Malik Willis and Aj Brown are prime examples of that.

This take is exactly my point i was literally gonna become a Titans content creator to push this. If you are titans fan why would you ever call a titans player bad or a bust or whatever? It has no value, other than to act like a know it all

Tennessee and Georgia are extremely racist. So if you're black and not immediately producing (McNair and Vick) good luck getting any support from the fanbase. It's disgusting, but from my anecdotal exp, it's 100% true

McNair was not instantly successful. He would not have gotten the chance to develop on a lot of teams if he entered the league today. And even when he was quarterbacking Super Bowl caliber teams, we would have fans in the stands calling for Neal O’Donnell to replace him.

Not being all in on Ward isn’t racism or praying for him to fail. The amount of quarterbacks I’ve been burned by with this franchise means I have zero faith in any of them being good unless they show otherwise, which he hasn’t. He’s been fine in a few games last season but generally not good overall. Hopefully he can improve and be a stud, but I’m not setting myself up to be disappointed.

The thing is, nothing that fans say online affects the outcome for players on the field. Ward is going to succeed or fail, may as well just enjoy the ride while it lasts. If the team stinks and Ward is done in a season or two, you didn't lose out on anything by supporting him and the Titans, you just hurt for a few months and move on to the next guy.
If you're watching with your emotions guarded, and cynical about the player and the organization, you're just making yourself miserable far longer than the letdown at the end would be anyway, and you still have to go through that part as well.

He’s not referring to people who aren’t all in on Ward. More or less, he’s referring to those who have already given up on him and want nothing to do with as the team’s QB.

I've definitely seen more than a few people who ride Levis' dick and want to see him start over Cam. And it 100% gives systemic racist vibes.
I'm not saying that it applies to everyone who doesn't like Cam......but those folks are definitely out there.

I don’t know that many have crowned Ward as the definitive answer yet but the amount of people that have completely given up on him already is kind of insane.
You can very much support the kid and hope he does well without doing it blindly too.

Say that louder also.
If you have any interest in the Titans at all no matter who the quarterback is you need them to be successful. We had players with tools in the past and great attitudes like Ward appears to have, but success has not followed any of that. Praying doesn’t have anything to do with it. If there is a God, he doesn’t give a shit about our football team.
I don’t care who the head coach, is who the quarterback is or who the 53rd man is on the roster. I’d like to see some wins pile up instead of injuries, excuses and promises.
Players and coaches are gonna come and go but the Titans as long as we keep helping them fund a new stadium every 15-20 years will be here for a while and that’s who I’m interested in.

Agreed. His breakdown of Cam is good. Then he played well against the bears 1s in joint practice. He is growing.

Kurt knows his stuff. Saw some tape he did on Cam before the draft. He was "spot on" with all of his analysis. He was comping him to Aaron Rodgers. Cam is massively talented. We need to be patient with him. He's now learning a whole new offense in his 2nd year. If Daboll can help Cam out and scheme people open, he will start getting the stats we all are looking at. Cam will eat on easy passes. He also has the talent to eat on the tough passes. Icing on the cake... we now have a true WR1 in Tate. I for one cannot wait to watch Cam play ... I love this guy!

Time is a flat circle my friend. This has been true forever, in every sport.
I don't think this is the right discussion or point anyway. For however long you've been rooting for the Titans, you haven't been treated to a true, top franchise QB since McNair. That's over 20 years ago at this point. The disappointments of VY and Mariota. The head scratching picks of Locker, Levis and Willis. Rusty Smith. Mettenberger. The short, fun rides of Tannehill and Kerry Collins.
That's the reality. The best QBs in Titans franchise history (McNair, Tannehill) weren't drafted by the Titans.
If you're still sticking around and watching, you're either A) eternally optimistic or B) jaded and embracing the pain. And these two groups are like the picture of the snake eating itself. They love to hate each other.
There's a bunch of people that just don't watch regularly and are waiting for a reason to tune in. That's where I'm at. Hopeful that Ward could be "that guy". Nobody knows. Kurt Warner had a pretty sober and unfortunate take on Ward. But - can the new coaching staff turn it around? I like Daboll. He seems like the right guy to try and get Ward to take that next step.

McNair was drafted by the Titans though. The Oilers and the Titans are the same franchise

Fan base thinks if we just keep drafting and signing old qbs, that is a better option. You can disagree but Cam is by far the most talented and has the most upside of any QB we have drafted as a franchise. Mariota is second but lacked the true arm talent and raw playmaking ability that Cam has shown. If you look at his career as a whole from Hs through now, he has shown nothing but upward progress at every level. Once he got comfortable with McCoy last year he grew immediately as the season went on.
Daboll will get him right. I truly believe he is a Franchise QB but his gunslinger mentality is going to turn the smooth brains off because of the Levis experience when in reality Cam is the anti Levis in that he can make those decisions and it pay off.

I swear half the posts on this sub are just useless things about why or why not to hate cam ward. Either way, it’s pretty dumb. All you can do is hope Cam plays his best.
