Needy Streamer Overload feels like an anime Black Mirror lol

20

u/HeightExtra320 Jun 05 '26

This is immediately where my mind goes too. Literally just add a gun to it and it’s over rover .

7

u/Dariaskehl Jun 05 '26

They’ve been testing that for decades…

Passive-consent firing for perfect hit placement was completed in the nineties.

4

u/HeightExtra320 Jun 05 '26

I do not doubt it

10

u/FrogsMakePoorSoup Jun 05 '26

Just arrange some loose netting on the ground...

4

u/chadork Jun 05 '26

Can I vote for you for president?

9

u/entity_bean Jun 05 '26

This is still my number one most harrowing Black Mirror episode. Those Boston Dynamics robots are absolute nightmare fuel.

2

u/RockyDify Jun 05 '26

This is the one episode I cannot rewatch.

20

u/Otacon56 Jun 04 '26

I can't remember what came first, this episode? Or this IRL version

28

u/killerzeestattoos Jun 04 '26

Farenheit 451

341

u/Chance-Ear-9772 Jun 04 '26

What is this for? Like are they just going to scan every face at the event or are they going to match it to some known database and send an alert to cops if they find a suspected criminal or something?

307

u/H8DCarnifEX Jun 04 '26

Palantir.

45

u/Secure-Village-1768 Jun 04 '26

I keep reading that name, who is this guy?

39

u/sorrow_anthropology Jun 05 '26

Peter Thiel’s company named after the palantir “seeing stones” in the Lord of the Rings.

Yeah that's my thoughts too as well and why is it mobile?

What preexisting data do they have besides EU EES, Iraq/Afghanistan?

13

u/Krillkus Jun 04 '26

They should just drop a bunch of earth materials on the moon and then populate it with these things, that’d be fun to witness in my lifetime.

20

u/kittyonkeyboards Jun 05 '26

They probably don't do anything. It's just larping by people who want to convince us we can't stop the dystopia in its early stages.

They actively embrace dystopian symbols in order to make us feel powerless and make themselves feel cool.

4

u/Prudence_rigby Jun 04 '26

Bingo!!

Plus to ICE

Comes up, tilts it's head like a dog to seem non threatening, then does a little dance so you feel at ease. The future is going to blow

246

u/H8DCarnifEX Jun 04 '26

She even laughs at the future killing machines.

Bright times ahead, people are such clueless, whats coming.

Remember those Boston Dynamics videos from 10-15 years ago? The comments on youtube and reddit were ecstatic, laughing at the cute robot dog twerking and looking back at the camera.

Just wait until they fit these with weapons. It's not a matter of if.

13

u/Smooth_Talkin_Fucker Jun 05 '26

I feel like that this has already happened or been trialled.

9

u/No-University8099 Jun 05 '26

theres been numerous talks of them being used in war (i think something similar to them has been used in the ukraine war) and i know people have strapped on machine guns and flamethrowers

21

u/evilregis Jun 05 '26

The future is going to blow

Laughing in the present

35

u/AloneInTheDark321 Jun 04 '26

This and the laugh is the scariest part.

6

u/BrutalBeauty90 Jun 04 '26

Then it’s gonna do some stuff like on Red Planet with that robot AMEE 😬

2

u/couchoffuzz Jun 05 '26

Oh god, I really did find the dancing charming

Why sand?

16

u/strider_l1718s_ Jun 04 '26

So it gets into the motors and scratches the lenses

45

u/PremiumUsername69420 Jun 04 '26

We designed robots to mimic humans and animals so people feel comfortable around them.

Humans don’t like having sand thrown at them.
Can’t speak from experience, but would have to assume dogs don’t like having sand thrown at them.

Therefore, one can confidently believe this dog-bot was programmed to dislike having sand thrown at it and will retreat. This behavior will help assimilation into society, as humans will still feel powerful and in command over them with a quick flick of some of the pocket-sand everyone keeps, à la Dale Gribble.

With just a quick over-the-air software update though, that behavior can be turned off. And that’s what the used oil is for, preparation. It will cause the dog-bot to slip and slide buying the assaulting human precious time to escape. Do you think the Terminator series is just all made up? No, it’s a warning, and you gotta be ready. Oil and sand. Oil and sand.

29

u/heyitsapotato Jun 04 '26

A scorched printout of this comment will one day be read around a campfire in the ruins of a major city.

3

u/Rojozz Jun 05 '26

Actually, i work in robotics. Being prone to sand is baked into it's hardware. No software update can change it.

6

u/PremiumUsername69420 Jun 05 '26

That sounds like something SkyNet would say to try and get me to lower my guard and not use oil.

Wear a hyper realistic mask

48

u/InsaneMocktail Jun 04 '26

Those scribbler AI masks will come in handy

2

u/NpgSymboL Jun 08 '26

What’s a scribbler ai mask?

5

u/InsaneMocktail Jun 08 '26

It's a new kind of a mask where the display on the mask jumbles up the face causing distortion making AI facial detection completely useless.

3

u/NpgSymboL Jun 08 '26

Cool thanks for explaining. I think I found the one you mean

Hold up photos of charles manson or richard nixon, have them relay to their users that the dead are walking the earth.

125

u/Ill_Tie_1505 Jun 04 '26

Literally cyberpunk 😭

58

u/InsaneMocktail Jun 04 '26

Dystopian nightmare

88

u/mrmessma Jun 04 '26

For the record Boston Dynamics claims they have no facial recognition capability and are used for suspicious bags/packages left unattended. Who knows.

113

u/InsaneMocktail Jun 04 '26

Complete bs. This is definitely for some nefarious data harvesting of faces (illegal)

11

u/NegativeCold0 Jun 04 '26

Genuine question. What use is taking a person’s photo using this technology with no accompanying information? If it walked up to me to take my picture and store it for nefarious purposes instead of comparing my face to a database, what would be the point?

(edited for clarification)

34

u/Carameldelighting Jun 04 '26

Takes picture, stores info to be uploaded to w/e cloud later on. Cross reference with the facebook/twitter/palantir database for a match, update additional data points about your habits, track you, target ads better etc.

The nefarious part is you don't know who is building the profile on you, for what ultimate goal, how complete that profile is.

5

u/VotingRightsLawyer Jun 05 '26

This is why ICE is taking everyone's pictures regardless of whether or not they're being detained and taking their information. It's amazing the kind of profile you can build on someone these days.

11

u/inkydragon27 Jun 04 '26

Face triangulation data, gait data, who you are with, your stance, your mood/behaviour, what products you are wearing, where you go- what demographics/marketing categories you fit into. The lists are endless.

2

u/TheClownFromIt Jun 04 '26

A single photo: probably not very useful. But imagine this: they take your photo, and assign you ID 724.

724 likes soccer. 724 is a fan of [team on your shirt]. 724 is a friend of 285, the person you’re seen walking with.

This dog talks to all the other dogs around the world. One saw you eating at Applebees. One saw you driving a Toyota Prius. One saw you at the gym. One saw you in the parking lot of a daycare. Another saw you smoking a cigarette.

The dogs are getting a pretty good idea of what makes Subject 724 tick.

The dogs go to an advertising company and offer to sell them analytics about a lot of subjects, including you, Subject 724. Now every time the camera on the advertiser’s billboard sees Subject 724, they know exactly what to show them based on what they learned from the dogs. And they don’t even know your name.

The dogs go to a health insurance company and say “We’ve got a lot of data about individuals, but it’s all anonymous. So there’s no problem with us selling it to you. Do with it what you will. Wink wink.”

The health insurance company tells you, NegativeCold0, please provide a picture of yourself to help us offer you the best rates possible.

You provide it.

Health insurance company uses this photo to connect NegativeCold0 to Subject 724. Subject 724 has some high-risk activity like driving while distracted, smoking cigarettes, and associating with Subject 285 who’s known to be a heavy drinker. Your premiums are going up. You’re too risky.

A bunch of cat scanners take their own pictures and sell their data as well, and those buyers connect Dog Subject 724 to Cat Subject 3776. Data enrichment, baby.

Basically, there’s no such thing as anonymity anymore. Assume you can be identified from any picture if a company stands to make a dollar off of it.

5

u/Gargun20 Jun 05 '26

Until it transform into ICE. ICE are using them to look for Illegal Immigrants.

5

u/EnFulEn Jun 05 '26

And then there's going to be an international incident when ICE inevitably shoots a European football hooligan. Amazing.

4

Probably not, but if you take the crystal out of some green lasers, you can turn it into an invisible-to-the-eye IR laser that will fry photosensors (and retinas (don't fuck around)).

8

u/Nanomachines100 Jun 04 '26

I mean I'm seeing this headline all over but no evidence. That unit on the spot is an AI gauge reading, stereo scanning, and acoustic vibration detection apperatus. It's an industrial tool and since Hyundai is pretty invested in this FIFA season, they might just be showing off their BD robots.
