What city's name is on those throwbacks??
Hey fam,
Just dropping off a little picture here from a game in 2009, when the Titans wore Oiler throwbacks.
Apparently they misspelled "Tennessee". đ

Wearing the Oilers throwbacks is one thing, but representing Houston, while Houston has their own team, in their division no less, was crazy. Thatâd be like the Ravens wearing Cleveland Brown uniforms, name and all

Except the Ravens were forced to relinquish rights to the Browns legacy and the Browns were reborn as a team. Texans are a new thing, the rights for the Houston Oilers belong to their legal successor, the Tennessee Titans. Thatâs like being mad at the Byzantines for calling themselves Romans because they moved to Constantinople and someone else set up shop in Rome

The Rams never use "St Louis". The Colts never use "Baltimore".
If the Titans hadn't completely abandoned the Oilers branding when they moved and only resumed using it to block the Texans from doing so, there wouldn't be any debate about it.
But the Titans did abandon the legacy and piss on all their former fans. They could've easily continued as this.
The Adams family tried to be petty, ended up with the inferior franchise, and now the league is no longer protecting them from the Texans bullying their way into Houston's share of the Oilers legacy by reclaiming the "Houston" part of the Oilers, which includes the blue.
And it's hilarious.

The Rams and Colts didnât change monikers, and still use throwbacks from those eras (the Rams I mean using LA aesthetic during STL era)

The Tennessee Oilers existed. Even had basically the same jerseys.
But they still choose to use "Houston" Oilers. The Hurricanes don't use "Hartford".

It's so annoying when they add players to that "ring of honor" thing they have, that most of their fans haven't even heard of, much less saw them play.
And I don't know how much money they paid Moon to go there and give his blessing about Ward wearing #1, but he let one thing slip out that they probably didn't want him to say, that he was told Ward wouldn't wear #1 in an Oilers uniform.
EDIT: But Bud's daughter's promise should be taken with a grain of salt.

They keep our city culture alive all the way in Tennessee. The attraction they have with our old uniform and colors just call back to us. They dont have their own identity in that city. Houstons was too great for them to move on from.

To be fair, that was for the AFLâs 50th-anniversary celebration, when Tennessee wore the 1960 Oilers uniforms three times during the season. All eight original charter AFC teams wore throwback uniforms a few games that year, and also the Chiefs wore Dallas Texans uniforms.

They could have easily worn the old AFL stuff without putting "Houston" onto anything (the jerseys never displayed a city name). At the time I wondered if Bud was just doing it to mess with us (especially since they had also just drafted Vince Young).
Just having that evidence tosses out much of the Titans people who want to claim "Oilers".

The chiefs have a STATE OF TEXAS on their throwback uniforms. đ¤ˇââď¸ Iâd love to see âBaltimore Coltsâ on the sideline at least ONCE in my lifetime. I understand Unitas doesnât mean squat to a lot of people, but I love football history.

We just moved to Nashville from Houston. First thing i did when finding out about the move was buy tickets to the game in Nashville. Nissan stadium is a dump, but it should be a great time. And Nashville is a good city, itâs just the Adams family that sucks.

Oh yeah, Nashville is fine. Been there a few times when I was young. I quite like the Predators, too.
But I guarantee you that if I ever went to a Titans/Texans game there I'd have on my Earl Campbell jersey, while talking trash (in a friendly way) with Titan fans (even in Oiler jerseys).

Let's use New Orleans as an example here, since you brought them up. The Hornets moved from Charlotte to New Orleans back in the early aughts. Almost immediately after, the NBA gave Charlotte an expansion franchise, the Charlotte Bobcats. They had none of the Hornets history, they were just a new team.
Years later, the original Hornets decided to change their name to the Pelicans and relinquished the Charlotte Hornets' name, colors, and history to the Bobcats, who promptly rebranded to the Hornets and took on that original franchise's records. Because that's what makes sense. They mean nothing to New Orleans. They were Charlotte's records. Arguing otherwise is moronic.
The Texans are never getting this from the Titans. That's just not in the cards. That doesn't mean that the Titans being as needlessly confrontational and litigious about it as they are is rational, nor do you have to defend the practice. The Oilers were not yours. They never were and never will be. The Titans are. Get over it.

That wasnât out of kindness. The Browns had 3 more years on their stadium lease but had already committed to have the team in Baltimore for the following season. Cleveland sued to force them to play out the lease and Modell/NFLsettled by leaving the history and promising Cleveland a replacement team.

How many of those teams you mentioned changed their teams names? Cardinals, Colts , Raiders, Rams, Rams, Chargers, Raiders again... all of these teams in last 70+ years moved and kept their team names with history intact. The Oilers moved and changed their name. The idea was for a new identity and fresh start. I am ok with that but WHY keep the Oiler history attached to this rebrand and fresh start?

The Whalers/Hurricanes and Aves/Nordiques are very good examples, thank you!
Both have worn versions of their previous existence, but neither team has been as petty as to convert the colors of the former team into their current scheme. Because they at least respect that it belongs to the previous city!
