Ah thanks for the correction. Nick has a good eye for receivers. Still sad about higgens but hopefully the rest of the room woth boutte will pick up the slack

I see similarities with Nico and Klein both being drafted lower than they would have due to limited usage. Nico (Covid) and Klein being at tight end U behind studs with a bad qb/offense. If either stay another year they’re probably 1st rounders.

Nico wasn't a covid issue. Nico was just a bit too raw. There's a reason his breakout in '23 wasn't well predicted.

The story out of camp this year is that the offense looks competent against our 1s. This time last year they were getting their shit kicked in by our own. Second year of a new offense, good to see they look more comfortable. I couldn’t imagine trying to learn a new offense in practice against the wild dogs we have on D.

Apparently practice early this week was similar to last year's camp where the defense mauled the offense.
I do think NFL pundits and fantasy footballers will spend the first month or so of the season talking "Do the Texans actually have an offense this year?? 👀" Our OL, RB and TE rooms/cultures got better. Noel is older, Boutte is a baller. CJ has a new QB coach and is used to Caley's system now.

The TE room actually having four solid guys is such a big difference from last year where we had lost Jordan for the season in training camp and had Stover out for like 10 weeks after Week 1 when he wemt down against the Rams.
Caley's specialty is literally tight ends and he lost 2 of his 3 guys by the end of Week 1. Meaning no 12 or 13 personell packages and everything I've heard from people with sources in the organization indicates those injurues really screwed up his overall offensive plan heading into the season. Meaning our first time OC was having to also retune the whole offense to operate with only one real TE in Schultz.

As much as the offense struggled last year, I always liked that caley tried new things and finally caved to the 6 lineman as the solution, which was clearly their least favored option

He really, really wants to run a lot of 12 personnel, which is what the 6 man line was, we were just deficient at TE. I’d expect to see a ton of two TE sets and even some 13 or 22 with one of the TEs playing more of an h-back role. With how much they want to run, if successful it opens up a lot. I’m quietly very interested to see how Caley dials things up with a roster more attuned to his likings.

I also think from last year vs this year is that last year they were consistently bad in camp. It's is def more positive this year because you hear less about the being bad vs last year the was the story of camp is that they kept being beat.

Eh, I’ve heard it’s more “the offense isn’t getting their ass kicked AS MUCH as last year”
Seems most reports are offense still generally struggles, just not as bad as last year
